Abstract
The study examined the effectiveness of mass media in disseminating information to fish farmers in Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. describe the socio-economic characteristic of fish farmers in the study area; examine the different mass media and their accessibility in the study area; identify the major source of agricultural information to fish farmers in the study area; analyze the effectiveness of mass media in the dissemination of agricultural information in the study   and identify the constraints the respondents face sourcing for agricultural information in the study area.
A multi-stage sampling procedure was used to collect data from 100 respondents with the aid of a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequency count and means were used to describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents while multiple regression and chi-square was used to determine the hypotheses of the study.
Results show that majority (60% ) of the respondents involved in fish farming are males  (67.5%) of the respondents were aged between 35-50 years with (55%) being married and 88.7% having formal education. Results also showed that majority of fish farmers have access to television (60%), telephone/internet (65%), Newspaper/Bulletin (55%) and Radio (55%). Findings also reveal that the major sources of information was Radio (90%), internet (80%), Facebook (92%), WhatsApp (74%), neighbors (100%), ministry of agriculture (98%), extension agent (80%), newspaper (100%) etc. and the problem facing fish farmers in sourcing for information in Sapele LGA were illiteracy, low income level, lack of credit facilities inadequate information and erratic power supply. The study recommended that more programs on Agricultural development and farming techniques should be aired on radio and television, more of such information should also be available on newspapers and bulletins. More agricultural pages should be created on Facebook and finally, WhatsApp group page should also be created for fish farmer’s in Sapele LGA area in Delta state where they can easily get information.

Abstract
Institutional based forestry is of primary interest because it provides numerous
ecosystem, goods and services which benefit humankind. On that premise, this study a
imed at deciphering people perceptions and levels of utilization of institutional -based
forestry using the university of Benin (ugbowo campus) as a case in point. Employing
mean Analyses and Frequency Analyses, the study revealed that the University commu
nity is aware of the existence of institutional -based forestry in the Ugbowo Campus. A
lso revealed is the fact that tree of different species are located almost everywhere in t
he Ugbowo Campus of the University of Benin, and are used for different purposes, vi
z. relaxation, aesthetic and shades for vehicles. Conversely, the study revealed that tre
es are poorly maintained. Similar to this is the finding that areas where there are trees
are often affected by storms where roofing sheets are blown -off by the wind. The stu
dy recommended amongst other things that, specialized personnel be employed to cart
er for the trees, funds be provided by the University authority, trees be treated regular
ly with pesticides and insecticide, and crucially areas currently lacking trees be provid
ed with such.

Abstract
In folk medicine, Emilia coccinea, is used to treat microbial infections and wounds. Thus the
aim of this study was to Investigate the Antifungal Activity of the n-hexane fraction of Emilia
coccinea (Sims) G. Don. The Assessment of the n-hexane fraction of Emilia coccinea whole
plant was investigated in order to verify its claimed folkloric usage in treatment of microbial
infections. Sensitivity tests for anti-fungi activities of the whole plant n-hexane fraction were
determined using Agar well diffusion method. Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs)
of fractions were also determined using Agar dilution. Commercial antifungal agent
(Ketoconazole) were used as positive reference standard to determine sensitivity of tested
organisms. The test organisms (Candidia albicans, Trichophyton rubrum, and Rhodotorula
glutinis) were found to be sensitive to the n-hexane fraction while no sensitive on Aspergillus
fumigatus, and Microsporum audounii. The n-hexane fraction recorded highest mean
inhibition diameter of 15.50±1.06 mm against Candidia albican. The results demonstrate that
the n-hexane fraction of E. coccinea plants has antifungal activity and can be a potential
source of antifungal agents. Thus, the folkloric usage of this plant for the treatment of
microbial diseases is justified.

Abstract
Pollution is a very predominant problem in Nigeria. As a developing nation, we face
challenges of constant economic recession and this can have effect on so many facets of life
including construction. Road construction is now so expensive. In other to combat pollution
and bad roads, waste can be used with other construction materials to construct better
roads.
In this study, the geotechnical properties of natural soil were determined, the effect of
mixture of orange peels in proportions of 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% were observed and the
appropriate mix ratio was ascertained. The soil samples were obtained from Faculty of
Engineering, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, from two locations. The following
tests were carried out; Moisture content Test, Specific Gravity Test, Sieve analysis, Atterberg
Limit tests, Compaction tests, California Bearing Ratio tests and on the treated and
untreated laterite soil. This laboratory tests were carried out to determine the suitability of
these waste materials when mixed with the soil samples. For the control sample, the specific gravity was obtained to be 2.69 and 2.73 which is above
2.50 but not greater than 3.0 for lateritic soils, this shows a high plasticity. The plasticity
index was obtained as 39.49% which indicates that the soil is not medium in plasticity. Also, from the sieve analysis, the soil is classified as an A-2-6 soil according to AASTHO. This value
indicates that it is good for subgrade material. Therefore, these soil reinforcement
techniques with orange peel can only be used for Trunk D roads or as subgrade materials
which require a minimum soaked CBR of 5%. For Trunk A, B and C roads, the mixture would
require a binder like cement before being considered as subbase and base course materials

Abstract
Over the years, human trafficking which involves the trafficking of people especially young and
able bodied people for forced labour and prostitution has become a recurrent problem in Nigeria
human trafficking has been an endemic social problem in Edo State in which the state alone
constitute about 46 percentage of human trafficking in Nigeria. It was in an attempt to tackle to
tackle the menace of human trafficking in Nigeria that the Federal government established
National Agency for the Prohibition of traffic in persons and other related matters (NAPTIP) in
2003. The agency is saddled with the onerous responsibility of investigating and persecuting
offenders of this heinous crime. On this note, this study has assessed the role of the agency in
combating human trafficking in Nigeria with special focus on Edo State which is notorious and
endemic hub for human trafficking in Nigeria. This study has identified the root causes of human
trafficking tits social and economic consequence in Edo State. It has also examined the strategies
adopted by National Agency for the Prohibition of traffic in persons and other related matters in
combating the menace as well as the challenges the agency has faced in carrying out its statutory
responsibilities. This has established that successes recorded so far by (NAPTIP) have been the
collaborative efforts of other stakeholders such as the European Union, (EU) International
Organization for Migration (IOM), Non-government organizations, civil society groups, local
non-government organizations as well as the traditional institution of Benin, the Oba and his
chiefs in the fight against the scourge. Despite several efforts by the government in collaboration
with local and international non-governmental organizations, humanitarian and civil society
organizations, human trafficking is still to be totally eradicated.
