Abstract
Breast milk has been the ideal food for infants starting from the earliest times and it is exclusively for babies. Exclusive breast feeding according to World Health Organization define feeding the infant with milk only with no additional food or liquid for the first 6 months of life. The purpose of this research is to examine the constraints in the adoption of exclusive breast feeding practices among working class (career) mothers in UNIBEN Health Centre. The aim of this research was to find out the constraints and factors contributing to noncompliance of career women in the adoption of exclusive breast feeding. It also aims at assessing the level of knowledge of exclusive breast feeding among career women as well as increasing the knowledge of the public towards the benefits of exclusive breast feeding and help suggest ways to overcome and deal with those constraints and challenges to successful practice of exclusive breast feeding. The descriptive survey research design was used, the target population consisted of 100 women attending UNIBEN health centre, random sampling technique was employed and a total of 100 questionnaires were distributed and same retrieved. Data was analyzed using simple percentages and frequency count. The result shows that most women have good knowledge of exclusive breast feeding and those who do not practice it due to one constraint or the other should be educated and the importance and gains of practicing exclusively. Also the health centre should endeavor to create enough break time for nursing mothers to practice exclusive breast feeding effectively.

Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of environmental sanitation in the control of malaria. The study is to assess the effectiveness of environmental sanitation in the control of malaria in the Ekosodin community, to examine different measures adopted by the residents of Ekosodin dwellers in the control of malaria, to examine how well the residents practice environmental sanitation in Ekosodin community and to assess the level of effectiveness of environmental sanitation in the control of malaria in Ekosodin community.
Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for the study and a purposive sampling technique was used in selecting the sample population in the rural community. A representative sample ofeighty (80) rural dwellers of the Ekosodin community was chosen for the study. A questionnaire containing twenty (20) items was constructed and administered to the respondents. The results obtained from the data collected from the respondents was analyzed using frequency and mean.
The Result of the study revealed that most Ekosodin residents community have a good knowledge about malaria, they also have low level of practice measures to control mosquito in their surroundings as poor drainage construction, lack of adequate bush clearing were identified to be prevalent.It is therefore recommended that Health education programmers should be organized to enlighten the community members on importance of environmental sanitation practice in the prevention and control of malaria.Community leaders should ensure community participation in environmental sanitation practice in Ekosodin Community.

ASSESSMENT OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP STUDIES AS A TOOL FOR NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION IN TERTIARY INSTITUTION IN EDO STATE

Abstract
This study assessed business education students’ perception of entrepreneurship studies as a potent tool for national transformation in tertiary institution in Edo State. The prevalence of Business Education graduates unemployment in spite of their exposure to the entrepreneurship content of the curriculum is also a major concern to the various stakeholders. Many graduates of Business Education prefer seeking for ready-made employment or remaining unemployed to creating jobs through solving societal problems. The inability to secure paid employment often compel many unemployed graduates to engage in several nefarious activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, assassination, or create unbearable situations such as poverty, hunger, lack of productive employment, and decent work shortfall in the country. A survey research design was adopted in this study where the primary data were obtained through questionnaire administered to 100 business education students in tertiary institution in Edo State. The researcher employed tables, simple percentage, mean and standard deviation to analyze the research questions. The finding showed that there is a positive influence of business education students’ perception on entrepreneurship studies as a tool for self-employment. It was also discovered that there is a positive relationship between business education students’ perception and entrepreneurship studies as a tool for poverty reduction. Further finding revealed that there is a positive influence of business education students’ perception on entrepreneurship studies as a tool for self-reliance. It was concluded that business education students’ perception of entrepreneurship studies is a potent tool for national transformation in tertiary institution in Edo State. Recommendations were that there is a need for Business Education Departments in tertiary institution in Edo State to provide skills acquisition programmes in diverse fields in order to change the narrative of business education students’ perception of entrepreneurship studies. Tertiary institution in Edo State should stimulate students‘ interest towards the choice of career in business education and entrepreneurship studies among others.

ASSESSMENT OF AWARENESS AND PRACTICE FOR THE PROMOTION OF MENTAL HEALTH AMONG STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the awareness and practice ofmental health promotion among students of the University of Benin, with a focus on identifying the factors that facilitate or hinder mental health-promoting behaviors.
A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted among 240 randomly selected students from various faculties within the university. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that assessed participants' awareness of mental health, their attitudes towards mental health promotion, and their engagement in mental health-promoting behaviors. The questionnaire also gathered information on participants'demographic characteristics, including age, gender, and faculty. The results of the study showed that the majority of the participants were aware of the importance of mental health and expressed a willingness to engage in practices that promote mental health.However, despite this awareness and willingness, only a few of the participants reported practicing mental health-promotion. Further analysis revealed that the low engagement in mental health-promoting behaviors among the participants was largely due to the low availability and accessibility ofmental health services within the university.
The findings ofthis study highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance mental health awareness and practice among university students. Specifically, the study recommends that the university increase the availability and accessibility ofmental health services, provide education and training on mental health promotion, and promote a culture ofmental health awareness and support among students, faculty, and staff.

ASSESSMENT OF ADULT LEARNERS' PERSPECTION, ATTITUDE AND INTEREST TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN BENIN METROPOLIS

Abstract
This study investigated the assessment of adult learners’ perception, attitude and
interest towards environmental education programmes in Benin metropolis: a case study
of Edo State. In doing this five research questions were raised to guide the study. A sample
size for this study is a total of 72 respondents constituted the sample for the study. The
sample was selected using a proportionate sampling technique whereby 10% of the target
population was randomly selected across the target locations. The questionnaire was the
major instrument used for the study and was designed and validated by experts in the
department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin.
Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies
counts, simple percentages, and mean score.
Findings of the study revealed that the overall perception of adult learners towards
environmental education programmes is the fact the programme is not effective in Benin
Metropolis, that adult learners have a positive attitude towards participating in
environmental education programmes, it was concluded that there are still worrisome
challenges confronting adult learners’ perception, attitude and interest towards
environmental education programmes and that these challenges majorly ranged from
inadequate publicity, illiteracy and ignorance, poverty and low income levels.
It was further recommended that Government should ensure that environmental
education programmes is effective in Benin Metropolis. Adult learners should be
enlightened that cleaning the environment is not only a benefit to the environment but also
a benefit to their health. Government should provide training for adults in the community
on how to recycle waste in other to avoid littering in the room.

AVAILABILITY AND ADEQUACY OF ART TEACHERS IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE

Every nation requires sustainable development to cater for its people and growing
economy. Nigeria is not exempted from this trend. The fact is that human resources
form any established sustainable development. This implies that the place of
teachers cannot be over-emphasized in the teaching -learning process. In Nigeria,
it appears that the teaching of art in Junior Secondary schools faces a lot of setbacks
not only in infrastructural facilities, equipment, tools and art materials but also in
the area of under-employment of trained Art teachers in schools. This incident may
have resulted in students’ lack of interest in offering Fine Arts at Senior Secondary
level. Due to the important role that Art plays in general education, it is important
to see that this subject is taught well at Junior Secondary level. To achieve this, both
qualified and adequate number of Art teachers becomes necessary. This study:
“Availability and Adequacy of Art Teachers in Junior Secondary Schools in Oredo
Local Government Area, Edo State” therefore, has specific objectives of assessing
the availability of Art teachers compared to the number of students offering Fine
Arts at the Junior Secondary level; determine what needs to be done to solve the
problem of inadequacy of Art teachers in the area of study, among others. Survey
research design will be employed in this study with two test instruments; Test of
Availability of art teachers questionnaire” to be administered among Art teachers
and “Test to buttress the data collected through art teachers. The data generated
from the study will be analyzed using simple percentages and recommendations
made from emerging results.

PARENTAL INFLUENCE ON CAREER PREFERENCE AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

Abstract
This study investigates the influence of parental support and guidance on the career preferences of secondary school students in the Benin metropolis. The research examines the significance of parental involvement in shaping their children's career aspirations and the differences in parental influence based on gender and age.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised one thousand, eight hundred and fourth-eight (1,848) senior secondary school students in all the public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The sample for the study consists of 150 respondents selected from three public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area.
A survey was conducted among students, and the findings revealed that parental influence and support play a crucial role in determining students' career choices. The analysis showed that all aspects of parental influence and support scored higher than the criterion mean of 2.5, indicating strong agreement among the respondents.
The study also uncovered significant differences in parental influence between male and female students, with males experiencing higher levels of parental guidance. However, no significant differences in parental influence were found across various age categories.
This research highlights the pivotal role parents play in shaping their children's career aspirations and provides valuable insights for parents, educators, and policymakers seeking to understand and support the career development of secondary school students in the Benin metropolis. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for targeted interventions and programs to address the gender differences in parental influence and ensure a more inclusive approach to career guidance and counselling in schools.

KNOWLEDGE AND PERCEPTION OF RESIDENTS OF EHOR COMMUNITY ON THE EFFECT OF FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION

The aim of this study was to examined the knowledge and perception of residents of hor Community on the effect of female genital mutilation, four research questions were raised to guide the study. Do residents of Ehor community have adequate knowledge of the implications of female genital mutilation? What is the perception of residents of Ehor community on the effect of female genital mutilation? What is the level of practice of female genital mutilation among residents of Ehor community? What are the factors that promote the practice of female genital mutilation among residents of Ehor community? The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. Population of the study consisted of comprise six thousand four hundred and forty-four (6,444) women in Ehor community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State. A sample of one hundred and twenty-nine (129) women were randomly selected from the population. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The data collated were analyzed using the simple percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings from the study it was seen that FGM affect the health of women and girls also it was also revealed that FGM violate the right of women and girls. It was seen that FGM causes urination and sexual problem. The recommendation includes The movernment needs to implement a national action plan on FGM which will provide statutory guidance and a strategy for ending the practice to all key stakeholders including professionals, NGOs and communities. Training for all statutory professionals on the identification, management and support of those at risk and affected by FGM should be conducted routinely. There is a need for increased awareness and understanding of the criminal law sanctions for FGM amongst the communities where it is practiced.

The aim of the study was to investigate knowledge, attitude and practice of
contraceptives among undergraduates in university of Benin, Benin city, to make
it possible, the study investigate
Descriptive survey research design was adopted to accomplish the
objectives of the study. The population of the study consists of all fourty four
thousand, six hundred and ninety-nine (44,699) undergraduates in university of
Benin and the sample size of 300 undergraduate was used in the study. The
instrument for data collection was the questionnaire developed by the researcher
and was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the
Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education. The reliability
coefficient was 0.81 was obtained using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation
Co-efficient (PPMCC). The data collected were analyzed statistically using the
statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) software. The study discovered that majority of the respondents had high level of
knowledge of what contraception is and had practice the use of
contraception. The result also revealed that they are high proportion of
sexual practice among the respondent and that there is a significant
relationship between the attitudes of undergraduate towards contraceptive
influence contraceptive use among undergraduate of university of Benin. The study recommend that university authority should provide adolescent health
clinics which will provide students with counseling on sex related matters and also
provide easily accessible contraceptive services where the need arises. And that
enlightenment of students on the dangers and consequences of unprotected sex. The commonest source of information for the students, which is the social media, should be exploited and utilized in disseminating this information. However, total
abstinence should be encouraged among all students.

The study investigated factors associated with the mass failure of students in
English Language in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government
Area of Edo State. The design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey
research design. Three research questions were raised to guide this study: What
ways do teachers and schools contribute to students’ failure in English
Language? Are parents responsible in any way to students’ mass failure in
English Language in the area of study? Does the social media have any impact
on the study habits of students?
The population of the study consisted of all the nineteen (19) secondary schools
in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. A sample size of one
hundred (100) respondents was drawn using the simple random sampling
technique. The data retrieved from respondents were analyzed by the use of a
computer software statistical tool (SPSS). Results after analysis were presented
on tables using Percentages, Frequency and Mean. The study revealed that most schools do not have qualified teachers, also the
school environment of some schools are not condusive for learning as well as
the lack of use of instructional materials to teach students. The study therefore
recommended that schools should ensure they employ teachers who have the
necessary qualifications to teach English Language in schools. Also, it was
recommended that schools should ensure they renovate and maintain school
infrastructures and rebuild old ones. Also, it was recommended that schools
should purchase instructional materials for teaching, and improvise for the ones
too expensive or unavailable for purchase
