INFLUENCE OF ENTREPRENEURIAL CHARACTERISTICS ON BUSINESS PERFORMANCE IN EDO STATE

Abstract
The study investigated the influence of entrepreneurial characteristics on business performance. The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of entrepreneurial competency, innovation and skill acquisition on business performance, also to identify the factors affecting entrepreneurial development in Nigeria. Four research questions guided the study. A descriptive survey research was used for the study. The population of the study was 430 entrepreneurs and the sample was 86 entrepreneurs within the University of Benin community. Data was collected through the use of a well-structured questionnaire and the copies were administered, collected and analyzed. Mean was
used for the data analysis. The findings revealed that entrepreneurial competency, innovation and skill acquisition influence business performance. The study recommends amongst others that on-the-job trainings and conferences should be encouraged in firms to increase
entrepreneurs’ competency and competitive strategies, practical entrepreneurship approach should be adopted in teaching entrepreneurship in schools, also infrastructures such as electricity, good roads, should be put in good shape to ensure the survival of business enterprise and the creation of new business venture.

This study was carried out to access influence of networking role on
entrepreneurial success of fine and applied art students in University of Benin, Edo State. This study adopted a survey research design. A population of 248 fine art students in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education was selected. The researcher constructed a questionnaire title networking role on entrepreneurial success required by
fine art student in the University of Benin for employment creation and self-reliance. The respondents out of the 249 distributed 199 were retrieved. Four research questions were examined while mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the data retrieved from the respondents. Findings revealed that Fine Art students require networking role in entrepreneurial success for the teaching and learning for self-reliance and employment creation. It was recommended among other that effort should be made by management to ensure that career development programme be instituted in order to encourage employable skills, acquired in fine art program to become job creators upon graduation

This study focused on the Influence of Oral-B toothpaste Advertisement on the Patronage of the product among Benin Residents. The objective of the study were to find out the extent at which Benin residents are exposed to advertisement of Oral-B toothpaste, to examine the attitude of Benin residents towards the advertisement of Oral-B toothpaste and to determine the perception of Benin residents towards advertising Oral-B toothpaste. It also aims at investigating the influence of Oral-B toothpaste Advertisement on the Patronage of the product among Benin Residents. For it's methodology, the survey research method was used to gather the data used for the study. Findings from this study revealed that Benin residents have been exposed to the advertisement of Oral-B toothpaste and they access this advertisement regularly. The findings also indicated that Benin residents attitudes towards the advertisement is neutral and that exposure to the advertisement of Oral-B toothpaste influences the buying behavior of Benin residents. Based on the findings , the researcher concluded that exposure of the advertisement is persuasive and that it is important in the marketing of product like Oral-B toothpaste. The researcher recommended among other things that media practitioners should endeavor to make advertising relatively cheaper for businesses and brands and that advertisers should be careful with the tye and nature of advertisement they put out there, since advertisement can influence the buying behavior of people.

This study was carried out to investigate the influence of mass media
on political awareness among youth in Benin city Four research questions were raised for this study which are outline how does exposure to different forms of mass media affect the political awareness and engagement of Nigerian youth? What role do specific mass media platforms, play in shaping the political opinions and behaviours of Nigerian youth? What are the perceptions and experiences of Nigerian youth regarding the portrayal of political issues and actors in mass media? To what extent do Nigerian youth trust the information disseminated by mass media regarding political events and issues?
The population of the study comprised of one hundred and seventyfour thousand, three hundred and sixty-two students (171,362) according to
the population census conducted in 2006. The sample for the study consists of one hundred and fifty (150) youths. The sample size for this study was selected using the random sampling technique. The major findings of the study it was revealed that the print media work
well with participatory approaches. it was indicated that unemployment is one of the socio-economic factors that influence the political awareness of Nigerian youth. It was seen that some students do not ask questions in class. It was seen that students like schools were the teachers are friendly. it was revealed that poverty is one of the socio-economic factors influence the political awareness of Nigerian youth. From the study it was recommended that to ensure effective, efficient and un-biased political mobilization by the mass media, there should be completely total autonomy, which will in turn ensure a free and independent press. It is the researcher's opinion that the independence of the media can go a long way to make things right and purposeful in political mobilization by the media to the general public benefit.

Abstract
This study examined the influence of the learning environment on the teaching and
learning of Business Studies in secondary schools within Ovia North-East Local
Government Area of Edo State. Employing a descriptive survey design, data was
collected using structured questionnaires from junior secondary school teachers and
students (JSS III) in four purposively selected secondary schools. The study examined the
extent of influence of physical facilities, classroom settings, school locations, and the
availability of qualified teachers on teaching and learning of Business Studies. The data
analysis utilized mean and standard deviation calculations, with a decision rule based on
a mean value of 2.50. The findings demonstrated the significant impact of various factors on teaching and learning. The availability and accessibility of modern educational
resources, current textbooks, and computers were perceived to have a high extent of
influence, contributing to enhanced educational outcomes. Well-maintained classrooms, laboratories, and physical school buildings were found to play a pivotal role in creating
conducive learning environments, with consensus among respondents regarding their
positive impact. Classroom settings, including classroom size, space, and seating
arrangements, were also acknowledged as influential, although with moderate variability
in viewpoints. Furthermore, school locations, particularly their proximity to
marketplaces and busy roads, were considered to have a considerable influence, with an
emphasis on the safety and well-being of students and teachers. The presence of qualified teachers with teaching experience, creative knowledge, motivational skills, and versatile teaching methods was found to significantly enhance teaching and learning. In
conclusion, this study underscores the multifaceted nature of factors influencing the
teaching and learning of Business Studies. The recommendations include enhancing
educational resources, maintaining physical infrastructure, ensuring safe school
locations, supporting teacher development, integrating multimedia tools into the
curriculum, and considering these influences in educational policy formulation.

Abstract
The study was designed to investigate the Influence of Literacy on
Pupils Performance in Primary Schools in Ovia North-East Local
Government Area of Edo State. Three research questions and three research
hypothesis were also generated. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population of this study consisted of the primary school pupils in the ninetyfive (95) public primary schools in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State where two hundred and fifty (250) primary school pupils were randomly selected from five (5) schools through the purposive sampling techniques. The YES or NO questionnaire was used while tables and simple percentages were used as method of data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that pupils in primary schools in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State are non-literates, that the ability of pupils to read and write significantly influence their academic performance in primary
schools in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State and that the total number of primary school pupils in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State who can read and write are not more than pupils who cannot read and write. Based on the above findings, recommendations were made.

Abstract
This study examined the influence of environmental factors on the academic
performance of students in Ovia North East local government area of Edo State. Three research questions guided this study. The population of the study consists of all secondary school students. Whereas the sample was 100 students. An instrument titled “The Influence of Learning Environment on students' Academic Performance of Secondary School Students Questionnaire" was utilized to elicit information from the respondents. Data was analyzed, percentages were used to find solutions to the research questions. The major findings of the study were (1) Performance is affected by learning
environment (2). Sitting arrangement affect academic performance 3Classroom
size influence students’ academic performance. Recommendations highlighted
were: Government should carry-out regular checks in schools so as to ensure that
all lightings qualify as good lighting, Government should focus on ensuring that
the air quality in classrooms are best, by providing adequate ventilation appliances
such as fans and air conditions, Also the repairs and maintenance of this appliances
should be catered for, There is need for proper provision of electricity in the schools, This would enable the constant use of the lights and ventilation appliances, Government should consider building more schools. This would help curb the problem of overpopulated classrooms and bring about a conducive learning environment, Government should also ensure that all seats and desks in schools are in good conditions, Also teachers should ensure that sitting arrangements are properly done so that students are able to achieve their academic goals.
