Abstract
The study investigated the influence of learning environment on students’ academic performance, with special reference to secondary schools in Esan-Central Local Government Area of Edo State. The population of the study comprised of nine thousand two hundred and four (9204) students in twenty (20) public secondary schools in the Local Government and a sample one hundred (100) students purposively selected from five (5) randomly selected secondary schools was used for the study. Three research questions were raised to guide the study, and a descriptive research design was adopted for the conduct of the study with the use of a questionnaire as the instrument for gathering data to answer the research questions. The use of, frequency count, percentage and tables were used to present the results for ease of discussion and interpretation. Based on the results, it was concluded that location of school, the size of English language class and the instructional facilities in schools influence students’ academic performance in English Language.
Finally, appropriate recommendations like the government, policy makers and school administrators should make provide a more conducive learning environment by providing schools with social amenities and more classroom and learning facilities.

Abstract
The study looked at the impact of socio-economic status on educational performance of University of Benin students, Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of socio-economic status on educational performance of University of Benin students, Benin city. The research questions asked to achieve the objective of the study were as follows; To what extent do socio- economic factors such as family income and parental education level correlate with academic performance metrics like GPA and graduation rates among students at the University of Benin, What are the roles of income on the academic performance of students at the University of Benin, What are the impact of family background on academic performance and In what ways do socio-economic factors interact with other student success factors, such as study habits, learning styles, and access to mental health resources, to influence academic performance at the University of Benin.The sample size was 301 participants chosen from the study population using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling, the research instrument utilized was the questionnaire. Conclusion drawn from the analysis of the data retrieved from the questionnaire indicates that Understanding these challenges is crucial for developing targeted interventions aimed at fostering a more equitable learning environment at UNIBEN. The proposed interventions fall within three broad categories: financial support, academic support, and social support. Financial support initiatives range from need-based scholarships and grant programs to financial literacy workshops. Academic support services can include tutoring programs, supplemental instruction sessions, and writing center resources. Social support interventions encompass mentorship programs specifically designed for low-SES students, fostering peer support groups, and creating racially inclusive student organizations. Recommendations were made based on the findings and one of the recommendations: Universities should prioritize expanding need-based scholarships and grant programs specifically designed to support low-SES students. These programs should account for the full cost of attendance, encompassing tuition fees, living expenses, and the cost of essential academic resources like textbooks and technology. Partnering with corporations, foundations, and alumni associations can further bolster scholarship opportunities

Abstract
This study examined the influence of the learning environment on the teaching and
learning of Business Studies in secondary schools within Ovia North-East Local
Government Area of Edo State. Employing a descriptive survey design, data was
collected using structured questionnaires from junior secondary school teachers and
students (JSS III) in four purposively selected secondary schools. The study examined the
extent of influence of physical facilities, classroom settings, school locations, and the
availability of qualified teachers on teaching and learning of Business Studies. The data
analysis utilized mean and standard deviation calculations, with a decision rule based on
a mean value of 2.50. The findings demonstrated the significant impact of various factors on teaching and learning. The availability and accessibility of modern educational
resources, current textbooks, and computers were perceived to have a high extent of
influence, contributing to enhanced educational outcomes. Well-maintained classrooms, laboratories, and physical school buildings were found to play a pivotal role in creating
conducive learning environments, with consensus among respondents regarding their
positive impact. Classroom settings, including classroom size, space, and seating
arrangements, were also acknowledged as influential, although with moderate variability
in viewpoints. Furthermore, school locations, particularly their proximity to
marketplaces and busy roads, were considered to have a considerable influence, with an
emphasis on the safety and well-being of students and teachers. The presence of qualified teachers with teaching experience, creative knowledge, motivational skills, and versatile teaching methods was found to significantly enhance teaching and learning. In
conclusion, this study underscores the multifaceted nature of factors influencing the
teaching and learning of Business Studies. The recommendations include enhancing
educational resources, maintaining physical infrastructure, ensuring safe school
locations, supporting teacher development, integrating multimedia tools into the
curriculum, and considering these influences in educational policy formulation.

This study examined the influence of environmental factors on the academic
performance of students in Ovia North East local government area of Edo State. Three research questions guided this study. The population of the study consists of all secondary school students. Whereas the sample was 100 students. An instrument titled “The Influence of Learning Environment on students' Academic Performance of Secondary School Students Questionnaire" was utilized to elicit information from the respondents. Data was analyzed, percentages were used to find solutions to the research questions. The major findings of the study were (1) Performance is affected by learning
environment (2). Sitting arrangement affect academic performance 3Classroom
size influence students’ academic performance. Recommendations highlighted
were: Government should carry-out regular checks in schools so as to ensure that
all lightings qualify as good lighting, Government should focus on ensuring that
the air quality in classrooms are best, by providing adequate ventilation appliances
such as fans and air conditions, Also the repairs and maintenance of this appliances
should be catered for, There is need for proper provision of electricity in the schools, This would enable the constant use of the lights and ventilation appliances, Government should consider building more schools. This would help curb the problem of overpopulated classrooms and bring about a conducive learning environment, Government should also ensure that all seats and desks in schools are in good conditions, Also teachers should ensure that sitting arrangements are properly done so that students are able to achieve their academic goals.
