Abstract
This study examined analysis of the level of parents involvement on students’ academics in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, four research questions were raised . The population of this study consist of the twenty-eight (28) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5973 (JS2) students. The population of this study consist of the twenty-eight (28) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5973 (JS2) students. The instrument for this research was a structured questionnaire titled “Level of Parents Involvement Questionnaire (LPIQ), The instrument was validated by the supervisor. Data collected for research question were analyzed using mean and standard deviation The findings from the research questions showed that there is a high level of parents involvement in students academics, examination, course work and co-curricular activities in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State. Based on the findings it was recommended that parents who are not involved in their children education should be constantly sensitized while those who are involved should be encouraged to continue doing so.

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE AND PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EDO STATE, NIGERIA

This study investigated school facilities maintenance and principals' administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Edo State. Nine research questions were raised and seven hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design of the study was descriptive survey based on correlational method. The population of the study constituted the 308 principals in the 308 public secondary schools and 495 teachers who served as respondents in the three senatorial districts of Edo State. The sample size of the study was 64 principals in the 64 public secondary schools in the three senatorial districts of Edo State, constituting 20% of the population. Eight teachers per sampled school were purposefully selected to serve as respondents. The proportional random sampling technique, using the multi stage sampling procedure was used for the selection. Two validated research instruments titled “School Facilities Maintenance Questionnaire” (SFMQ) and “Principals’ Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire” (PAEQ) with a reliability coefficient of 0.88 and 0.74 respectively were used for the study. The Mean and Standard Deviation, Pearson r and Fisher’s Z statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings from the study revealed that the level of facilities maintenance and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Edo State was low. The study also revealed a significant relationship between school facilities maintenance and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Edo State. The sex and experience of the principals were also found to be significant, in that male principals and more experienced principals carried out maintenance practices than female and less experienced principals. However, there was no significant relationship between facilities maintenance and principals.

PRINCIPALS, COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES AND ITS INFLUENCE ON TEACHER’S JOB PERFORMANCE IN SELECTED PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ESAN WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study was carried out to determine the principal communication strategies and how it influences teacher’s job performance in some selected public secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. Ex-post facto research design was employed. Proportional sampling technique was adopted to select one hundred and five (105) secondary school teachers and principals comprising of both males and females from ten secondary schools in Esan West Local Government Area, of Edo State. Four research questions presented in a 4 point scale guided the study. A well structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Face content validity was done by the research supervisor and the reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.92 after the reliability test. Data were presented in tables as mean and standard deviation. The results obtained showed an average mean greater than 2.50 for all variables in response to the research questions. The communication strategies adopted by principals in secondary schools is through the use of reminders circular letters, notice boards, suggestion box, electronic media etc. Principal’s communication strategy has both positive and negative influence on teacher’s job performance. Mistrust, lack of delegation of authority by the principals, inappropriate setting of the message due to the existence of numerous intermediaries and emotional state of the communicator were identified as factors affecting communication. The study conclude that effective communication in schools can be enhanced through the maintenance of free flow of information, adoption of open door policy by the principals and holding of regular staff meetings to iron out issues or problems that may impede communication system in schools.

The study investigated the relationship between information communication technology (ICT) and student Academic performance in public secondary School in Egor local Government Area of Edo state. The study adopted Descriptive survey Research Design, the population for the study consist of thirteen (13) public secondary school , through random sampling Ten(10 ) we’re selected as sample . A total of 150 respondent were used for the study in order to elicit information from the respondents, a structured questionnaire was validated by the supervisor and distributed to the selected schools. Five (5) Research question were posed to guide the study.

This study was to carry out a comparative study on The influence of
teachers stress on school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government. The study was necessary to examine the school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government as affected Teachers stress. The study adopts the descriptive survey as the research design. The research instrument was a well-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by the project supervisor for final correction. The reliability test was carried out using the test re-test method to arrive at a value that was reliable. Questionnaire were administered and answers offered were collated and analyzed using the simple percentage, frequency and mean data analysis. Findings from the study revealed that: The level of teacher stress in secondary school in Edo state is moderate in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government; there is a statistical relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo local government: there is no statistical significant relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness based on school size in public secondary school in Oredo local government: and there is no statistical relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness based on school location in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government. It was however recommended that Educational planners should formulate measures that will help to effectively curb stress in public secondary schools in Edo state. Government should employ more qualified teachers and there should be yearly orientation of these teachers to update them more on new strategies to help improve teaching and learning in schools. Training and re-training on a regular basis should be carried out on teachers, so as to ensure that they are open to effective alternatives in Educational administration. The school management should ensure putting checks and balances in place, to monitor the effectiveness of the teachers while carrying out their duties. Further research is needed to provide more conclusive evidence.

This study investigated the assessment of the attitude of secondary school students towards Economics in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 200 students randomly selected from SS1 and SS2. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean score. Criterions mean score of 2.50 was used as selection criterion.The findings from the study include that teaching methods, mastery of subject matter, conducive learning environment and availability of resources all constitute factors influencing the attitude of students towards Economics. It was concluded that there is positive attitude of SS1 and SS2 students towards Economics in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It was therefore recommended among others that since there is positive attitude of students towards the study of Economics, government should continue to ensure that the subject matter of Economics remain a top priority in order to sustain the interest of students.

KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICES OF RISKY SEXUAL BEHAVIOR ASSOCIATED WITH STD AMONG ADOLESCENTS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BENIN CITY

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a significant public health concern among adolescents, particularly in developing countries where knowledge gaps, risky sexual practices, and inadequate preventive strategies persist. This study examined the knowledge, attitude, and practices of risky sexual behavior associated with STDs among adolescents in public secondary schools in Benin City. A descriptive cross-sectional research design was employed, and data were collected from a stratified sample of students using a structured, self-administered questionnaire. The findings revealed varying levels of awareness of STDs, with a notable proportion of respondents demonstrating misconceptions regarding modes of transmission and prevention. While some adolescents exhibited positive attitudes toward safe sexual practices, a considerable number engaged in behaviors that increase their susceptibility to STDs, including unprotected sexual intercourse and multiple sexual partnerships. The study further identified sociocultural influences, peer pressure, and inadequate sexual health education as contributing factors to risky sexual behavior. Based on these findings, it is recommended that comprehensive sexuality education be integrated into the school curriculum, alongside peer-led interventions and community sensitization programs, to promote safer sexual practices and reduce the prevalence of STDs among adolescents in Benin City

This research study examined the influence of principal-teachers’ relationship on teachers’ effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Three (3) research questions were raised and answered. The research design employed is the survey descriptive design. The population of the study comprises of fourteen(14) principals and 282 teachers from the fourteen(14) public secondary schools In Egor Local Government Area of Edo state. The sample consist seven(7) principal and two eighty four (84) teachers which constitute 50% randomly selected from the population. A structured questionnaire was used in collecting data. The instrument was validated and the reliability of the instrument was determined using the Test Re-Test statistical tool. The reliability coefficient obtained was 3.02. The data collected were analysed using a descriptive statistics such as mean (x). the findings revealed that there is high relationship between principal-teachers relationship and teachers effectiveness in Ego Local Government Area Of Edo State. Based on the findings it was recommended that school principals should adopt a combination of democratic and participative leadership style in administering the schools

The purpose of this research work was to determine the factors influencing the attitude of students towards business studies in public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area . Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the research study and a total of 100 questionnaires were administered to secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area by adopting a simple random sampling technique. Findings revealed that business studies students at any level requires enough funding, money is required for the procurement of equipment as well as recruitment and training of the students. Business studies subject have had low social esteem in Nigeria and it felt that business studies subjects are meant for factory workers or for semi skilled work in the trade. It is recommended that training competent teacher is one of the strategies. Proper organization and administration of business studies subjects should be provided
to enhance the choice of the students. Use of appropriate instructional materials and methodology should also be considered.

The study is on the relationship between teachers’ conditions of service and their job performance in public secondary schools in Ovia Northeast Local Government Area. The major purpose of the study is to find out the condition of service for enhancing the performance of teachers in secondary schools. Three research questions and four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Correlational research design was adopted by the study. The population comprised of twenty-eight (28) principals and all the 1839 (1,111 comprised males and 728 females) teachers in the twenty-eight (28) public secondary schools in Ovia Northeast Local Government Area in the 2019/2020 academic session. The multistage sampling technique was adopted by the study to select a sample of fourteen (14) principals and public secondary schools, representing 50% of the total population to make up the sample for the study. Two research instruments were used for data collection. The first was a structured questionnaire titled “Conditions of Service) which was administered to the teachers in the selected schools to rate their principals. Questionnaire (COSQ) and the second was a “Teachers’ Job Performances Checklist (CPSRQ). The instrument for data collection was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Management, University of Benin, Benin city. In order to establish the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach Alpha statistics was adopted for the study. The instrument were administered once to twenty (20) teachers and twenty (20) principals, their responses were scored and analyzed using Cronbach’s Alpha formula and the alpha value obtained are 0.87 and 0.63 for principals and teachers respectively. Therefore, the instrument for the study was reliable. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics such mean, standard deviation and Fisher The findings of the study revealed that teachers conditions of service in public secondary schools in Ovia North East was poor, Teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area was high, there was no significant difference in the relationship between conditions of service and teachers ' job performance. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others:
The teachers in public secondary schools should consistently be motivated to enhance and sustain their level of job performance. This can be done through provision of well -equipped classrooms, staff-rooms, and regular payments of their fringe benefits, Salary of teachers should be paid promptly to enable them concentrate on their job for effective delivery.
The government and school management should ensure regular promotion of teachers promptly to mention but a few.
