AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING RESOURCES IN TEACHING ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

Abstract
This study examined the availability and utilization of e-learning resources in the teaching of English language among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study was prompted by the increasing importance of digital technologies in education and the need to understand their role in improving English language teaching and learning in a developing context. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to selected students and teachers in Egor Secondary School. Findings revealed that e-learning resources such as computers, digital materials, multimedia tools, and internet facilities enhance students’ proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking when effectively utilized. However, challenges such as inadequate availability of resources, poor infrastructure, irregular power supply, insufficient teacher training, and limited technical support hinder effective utilization. The study concludes that e-learning resources play a significant role in improving English language learning, but their impact is constrained by several institutional and infrastructural challenges. It therefore recommends that government and school authorities provide adequate ICT facilities, improve infrastructure, and organize continuous training for teachers to enhance the effective integration of e-learning resources in secondary schools.

IMPACT OF PARENTAL NEGLIGENCE AND CHILD WELFARE, IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIAL WORK IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE

This study examined the problem of parental negligence and its implications for children’s welfare in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The research sought to determine the prevalence, causes, and effects of parental negligence on children’s physical, emotional, and educational development, as well as to assess the role of social workers in addressing this growing social concern. Guided by Attachment Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Ecological Systems Theory, the study adopted a qualitative descriptive design. Data were collected through interviews with children, caregivers, and social workers using semi-structured interview guides. Findings revealed that poverty, single parenthood, substance abuse, cultural beliefs, and inadequate parental education were the major determinants of negligence in the study area. Neglect manifested through poor nutrition, lack of supervision, educational deprivation, and emotional abandonment, all of which negatively impacted children’s well-being and academic performance. The study further found that social workers play a critical role in identifying, counseling, and rehabilitating affected families, though their efforts are often constrained by poor funding, limited training, and weak policy enforcement. It was concluded that parental negligence significantly undermines children’s welfare and social development in Oredo LGA. The study recommends intensified community sensitization, stronger enforcement of the Child Rights Act, increased government support for social work practice, and the establishment of sustainable child welfare programs to protect vulnerable children and break the intergenerational cycle of neglect.

The Implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) has gained significance in
improving healthcare delivery globally. This study aims to conduct a comparative study on the implementation of EHRs in the private and public sectors for health care delivery in Edo state, Nigeria. The general objective of this study was to assess the role and implementation of electronic health record to selected private and public sector for healthcare delivery in Edo state. The research was to explore the current state of EHR implementation in both sectors, identify the barriers and challenges faced during implementation, and analyze the impact of EHRs on healthcare quality and efficiency in Edo state. A mixed-methods research approach was employed, incorporating quantitative data collection through surveys and qualitative data collection through interviews and focus. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of EHR implementation in the private and public sectors in Edo state and will inform policymakers and healthcare professionals on best practices and strategies to maximize the benefits of EHR adoption for improved healthcare delivery in Edo state, Nigeria. Specifically, it recommended that the selected health institutions both public and private should ensure the availability of finances, adequate staff training in the technical know-how of the technological advancement, also be technical infrastructures and manpower like electronic record managers, ICT support staff and computer medical devices. This study examine good governance and state- local fiscal relations in Nigeria. In todays society, people focus a lot on being proud and achieving things on their own at work. Local government as a third tier of government are subordinate to the state and federal governments which are effectively the determinant level of government. So, this study wants to find out how working together. This development gradually transformed democratic administration into bureaucratic administration in which the centre looms large and therefore, changed the original federal form n which the legal and political competence of each unit of government is limited in relation to the legal and political competence of other unit of government. The objectives of the study was to examine the extent of cordiality, in terms of fiscal relations existing between Edo State Government and OREDO Local Government. Th methodology used was a survey research design through the use of a structure questionnaire in getting data form respondents.. the method of data analysis that was adopted is statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). This study was carried out to examine the effect of manpower training and development in employee morale using Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State as a case study. The study was specifically carried out to determine whether there is a significant relationship between manpower training/development and employee morale, ascertain whether the implementation of manpower training/development programme enhances employees’ job satisfaction, ascertain whether the implementation of manpower training/development programme improves employees commitment and productivity, and find whether there is an adequate implementation of manpower training/development programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of civil servant of Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 57 respondents and 50 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and mean scores. While the hypotheses were tested using Pearson correlation square statistical tool, SPSS v23. The result of the findings reveals that the implementation of manpowertraining/development programme improves employees commitment and productivity. The study also revealed that there is no adequate implementation of manpower training/development programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.Therefore, it is recommended that authorities in government should ensure that there is a bearing between manpower training and development with national objectives and policy because this is the only way government could have a pool of competent employees to drive and implement its development policies and programmes. This study was to carry out a comparative study on The influence of
teachers stress on school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government. The study was necessary to examine the school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government as affected Teachers stress. The study adopts the descriptive survey as the research design. The research instrument was a well-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by the project supervisor for final correction. The reliability test was carried out using the test re-test method to arrive at a value that was reliable. Questionnaire were administered and answers offered were collated and analyzed using the simple percentage, frequency and mean data analysis. Findings from the study revealed that: The level of teacher stress in secondary school in Edo state is moderate in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government; there is a statistical relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oredo local government: there is no statistical significant relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness based on school size in public secondary school in Oredo local government: and there is no statistical relationship between teachers stress level and school effectiveness based on school location in public secondary schools in Oredo Local government. It was however recommended that Educational planners should formulate measures that will help to effectively curb stress in public secondary schools in Edo state. Government should employ more qualified teachers and there should be yearly orientation of these teachers to update them more on new strategies to help improve teaching and learning in schools. Training and re-training on a regular basis should be carried out on teachers, so as to ensure that they are open to effective alternatives in Educational administration. The school management should ensure putting checks and balances in place, to monitor the effectiveness of the teachers while carrying out their duties. Further research is needed to provide more conclusive evidence.

This study investigates the relevance of adult education in the
preservation of culture and tradition in Oredo local government area of Edo State. Five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study. A total of Six Hundred (600) respondents from the entire population of the inhabitants of Oredo local government area of Edo State where selected for the study through Purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages Findings of the study revealed that to a large extent adult education practiced in Oredo local government area of Edo State, that Adult education can help me to know more about my culture and values to be kept It was further revealed that participation of adults in the preservation of cultural heritages and values has increased through adult education and that through adult education programme, reformation of cultural heritages and values will be of immense help to preserve our culture. It was therefore
recommended that facilitators of adult education should impact knowledge and love for cultural heritage in a way that would inspire adults to participate in preservation of their cultural heritage and to pass the knowledge to coming generations. The study examined the impact of revenue generation on the development of local government Area; a case study of Uhunmonde Local government area.It sought to ascertain if there is a significant relationship between of revenue generation and the development of local government taking into consideration some dimensions of revenue generation.A convenience sampling method was adopted and a sample size of 180 was used and distributed.A total number of 158 questionnaires was retrieved and analysed for the study.Descriptive statistics and ANOVA were adopted for the study.The study revealed that there Local government tax collectors yield high revenue for your Local Government Area.It also revealed that the level of local government funding on community development projects is suf icient.It was concluded that service provisions by local government is the product of the ability to generate revenue.Therefore, based on this, the higher the revenue the higher the number/quantity of services provided and vice versa.The study recommended that.The present revenue sources should also be fully tapped to improve the revenue base of the local government. Here,it is strongly recommended that the local government should adequately be involved in commercial transportation. By this, it means that commercial vehicles(cars, buses and trailers)should be purchased and operated, not on a subsidised bases but purely on commercial bases

MERIT-BASED RECRUITMENT PROCESS AND JOB PERFORM

This study investigates the merit-based recruitment process and its effect on job performance in the Edo State Civil Service Commission (ESCSC). The problem stems from political interference, favoritism, and poor recruitment practices that hinder efficiency and fairness. The study aims to assess the level of merit-based recruitment, identify challenges, and suggest improvement strategies. Anchored on the Attraction- Selection-Attrition (ASA) theory, a survey design was adopted. Data were collected from fifty-six (56) staff using questionnaires and analyzed with descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. Findings revealed that merit-based recruitment is practiced and positively influences employee performance, though hindered by nepotism, political influence, inadequate ICT tools, and funding. The study concludes that strengthening meritocracy improves efficiency and transparency. It recommends enforcing anti-nepotism policies, training recruitment officers, adopting ICT tools, establishing independent oversight committees, and increasing budgetary support to enhance job performance in the Edo State Civil Service.

ATTITUDE OF SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICERS TOWARDS THE AGED IN NEW BENIN COMMUNITY, EDO STATE

The study investigated the attitude of social welfare officers towards the aged in Benin community. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study. The study adopted survey research design. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire; it was built around the research question by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisor. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The major findings of the study are as follows: social welfare officers have positive attitude towards the aged in Benin Community; the attitudes of social welfare services to the elderly population influence: the level of interaction and communication of social workers with the aged, affects their quality of services, the relationship between social workers attitude and the aged and the professionalism of social workers; the respondents agreed that factors contribute to the formation of these attitudes among social welfare officers include: Personal beliefs and values, Religious beliefs. Formal and professional training and Personal life experience. And the potential consequences of negative attitudes towards the aged on the well-being and quality of life of the elderly population include: negative stereotypes or prejudices about the elderly may lead to discrimination or social exclusion, older individuals may experience reduced access to healthcare or support services due to negative attitudes, negative attitudes towards aging impact the mental and emotional well-being of elderly individuals and negative attitudes can contribute to increased feelings of loneliness and isolation among the elderly. Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are made: Social welfare officers should maintain good attitude towards the aged in Benin Community and Social workers should always bear it in mind that their attitude towards the aged is very important amongst others
