Abstract
This study was aimed at determining the role of adult education as an agent of social change for improved standard of living in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Five research questions were raised and examined to enable the achievement of the objectives of the study. The research design for the study was the survey research design. The population of the study consisted of five hundred and seventy (570) adult learners while the sample size for the study included a total of one hundred and seventy (170) adults selected from the ten (10) communities in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The collection of data for this study was obtained using a questionnaire titled “Role of Adult Education as an Agent of Social Change for Improved Standard of Living in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State Questionnaire.” The instrument was validated using the expert judgement approach while the test-retest approach was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The data collected for the study was analyzed using descriptive statistics comprising frequency count and simple percentage. Findings from the study revealed that the people of Egor Local Government actually do participate in adult education programmes, and that adult education has made the people’s societal disposition positive or better. It was also found that adult education has not made the community people politically active, though the community people are actively involved in community issues, and that adult education has moderately improved the people’s standard of living. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the people should be encouraged to continue their participation in adult education programmes. Efforts should be made to include or improve civic and political education in the programmes in the area so as to make them politically active, and strategies that can better the already improved standard of living should be encouraged.

INFLUENCE OF ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES ON WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT IN OVIA NORTH-EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study examined the influence of adult education programmes on women’s performance in Ovia North-East Local overnment Area of Edo State. To guide this study five (5) research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design was used in conducting the study. The population of the study consist of 244 respondents from four communities in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state. The study adopted multi-stage sampling technique and the instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. It was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s project supervisor and two other lecturers in the Department of Adult and Non-formal Education, University of Benin. The findings from the study revealed among others that the adult education programmes available to women in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State includes fashion designing, hair dressing, catering and interior designing and basic literacy. The findings further revealed that through adult education programmes women are socially empowered to engage in social activities, have better information about their health, and experience an upward movement in their social status. Based on the findings, the study recommends the active mobilization of women so that they can be part of adult education programmes provided for them, adequate funds should be provided by the government to run the programme and the programme planners should tailor the programmes to meet the everyday need of the female learners in order to promote the holistic development of women in our country

This study explores the pivotal role of adult education in fostering economic development within rural communities, with a specific focus on the IkpobaOkha Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the research delves into various aspects of adult education programs, including community perceptions, social and economic impacts, employed strategies, and overall benefits. The study reveals diverse perceptions within rural communities regarding adult education, highlighting the need for targeted awareness campaigns to dispel misconceptions and increase participation. Furthermore, the research underscores the positive influence of adult education programs on social development, emphasizing behavioral changes, community engagement, and enhanced lifestyles among adult learners.Additionally, the study identifies a strong correlation between adult education and economic development, citing the acquisition of vocational skills, increased productivity, income generation, and entrepreneurship opportunities as key outcomes. To optimize the effectiveness of adult education initiatives, the study recommends adequate funding, resource allocation, community engagement, and policy enhancements. It advocates for a comprehensive approach that integrates adult education into broader development strategies, emphasizing the importance of tailored programs, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous evaluation and improvement.The study underscores the transformative potential of adult education in rural communities and calls for sustained investment, policy support, and community involvement to harness this potential for holistic community development and economic growth.

This study investigates the relevance of adult education in the
preservation of culture and tradition in Oredo local government area of Edo State. Five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study. A total of Six Hundred (600) respondents from the entire population of the inhabitants of Oredo local government area of Edo State where selected for the study through Purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages Findings of the study revealed that to a large extent adult education practiced in Oredo local government area of Edo State, that Adult education can help me to know more about my culture and values to be kept It was further revealed that participation of adults in the preservation of cultural heritages and values has increased through adult education and that through adult education programme, reformation of cultural heritages and values will be of immense help to preserve our culture. It was therefore
recommended that facilitators of adult education should impact knowledge and love for cultural heritage in a way that would inspire adults to participate in preservation of their cultural heritage and to pass the knowledge to coming generations. This study examined parental attitudes toward participation in adult education programmes in Ovia North-East. The findings showed that parents attitudes strongly influence participation in adult education programme. This is possibly due to the fact that many parents lacked understanding of adult education programme and the benefits it bestows on that participants. The factors found to influence parental attitudes include finance, limited awareness and the distance where programme are located. The aim was to explore and determine the disposition of parent to participation in adult education programmes in the area understudy. In this regard the research sought to explore the parent perception of their children's participation in adult education, it's influence on their choice of programmes and factors guiding the parents disposition and perception. In pursuance of this, 6 research questions were raised to examined in the course of the study
