INFLUENCE OF ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES ON WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT IN OVIA NORTH-EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

Abstract
This study examined the influence of adult education programmes on women’s performance in Ovia North-East Local overnment Area of Edo State. To guide this study five (5) research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design was used in conducting the study. The population of the study consist of 244 respondents from four communities in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state. The study adopted multi-stage sampling technique and the instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. It was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s project supervisor and two other lecturers in the Department of Adult and Non-formal Education, University of Benin. The findings from the study revealed among others that the adult education programmes available to women in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State includes fashion designing, hair dressing, catering and interior designing and basic literacy. The findings further revealed that through adult education programmes women are socially empowered to engage in social activities, have better information about their health, and experience an upward movement in their social status. Based on the findings, the study recommends the active mobilization of women so that they can be part of adult education programmes provided for them, adequate funds should be provided by the government to run the programme and the programme planners should tailor the programmes to meet the everyday need of the female learners in order to promote the holistic development of women in our country

THE ROLE OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING ON FACILITATING THE ADAPTATION OF ADULT LEARNERS WITHIN LITERACY EDUCATION CENTRES IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study investigates the impact of guidance and counseling on the adaptation of adult learners within literacy Centres in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study A total of One Hundred and Fourteen (114) adults learners selected from the Six (6) adult education centres in Oredo local government area where used for the study. The population is manageable as a result no sample was selected. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the Department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques consisting of Tables, frequencies counts, and percentages. Findings of the study revealed that learners have at their disposal Vocational, Educational and Information guidance and counselling services .It was further revealed that to a very high extent and high extent guidance and counselling services in the centres are not private enough for free discussion, there is adequate consultation rooms where adults learners are supposed to go and discuss their problems with counselor and the amount of time allocated guidance and counselling services in the centres is sufficient, learners will leave the programme because of their inability to further. It was further recommended that the governments, parents and relevant stakeholders must actively be involved in providing supports where necessary towards ensuring the effectiveness of the guidance and counseling services in the various adult education centres in the area. It was also recommended that efforts should be made to create more awareness among adult learners on the importance role of guidance and counseling services and the need for them to embrace the programme.

Abstract
This study investigates the impact of the learning environment on the academic achievements of adults enrolled in literacy programs within the Oredo local government area of Edo State. The primary objectives include identifying the range of adult learning programs available, assessing the learning environment's influence on the academic performance of adult learners, and examining the challenges associated with the literacy program's learning environment. To guide the research, four specific research questions were formulated. The research design adopted for this study was a descriptive survey. The study's population encompasses all adult learners currently engaged in any form of adult literacy program within the Oredo local government area, totaling 1,142 individuals. The research sample size consists of one hundred (100) adult learners, and data collection was conducted through the administration of a questionnaire. To determine the reliability of instrument, test retest method was adopted. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS software, employing frequency counts and simple percentages. The study revealed the presence of adult basic literacy programs, vocational training centers, and adult formal education programs in Oredo. It was also observed that the utilization of technology in teaching can enhance interaction and engagement among
adult learners. Moreover, the competence and experience of instructors play a vital role in establishing a conducive learning environment. However, it was found that the existing learning environment does not significantly enhance learners' performance. This study was designed to investigate the assessment of the factors influencing the non-participation of women in community development programmes: A case study of Oredo local government area of Edo state. The sample for the study comprises of 75 women selected from government workers, teachers and traders in Oredo local government through simple random
sampling procedure. The research design used for this study is the survey and the questionnaire was used for the collection of data. The analysis of the data lead to the following findings women don’t participate in community development programmes and that the level of their participation is at the lowest ebb, that husband and societal values is a hindrance to women participation, culture and religion also impede women’s participation, also education help to encourage women to participate in community development programmes. It was therefore recommended that community leaders should be those that could be trusted by the entire community, campaign for women participation should be made more effective through the use of local dialects, necessary mechanism should be put in place through which the women’s felt need can be met and more women should be involve in the planning and policy making in all aspect of our national life and development.

This study was carried out to ascertain the socio-economic factors affecting the educational growth of adolescents in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.. The study consist of five chapters and each has vital information
regarding to the topic under study. Chapter one consist of general introductions and research questions, three research questions were raised which include: (1)What are the attributes of educational growth? (2)What is the impact of socio-economic status on educational growth? (3)What role has socio-economic factor such as educational level, occupational level and income to play in the educational growth of an adolescent? The chapter two focused on literature review on the meaning of concepts used and counter-montions were critically evaluated, the relationship
between socio-economic factors and educational growth was drawn. The chapter three if this study centered on research methodology and design. The simple random sampling technique was used to select the sampling size. A total of 100 questionnaires were administered to five selected schools within Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, 20 questionnaire were distributed to each school. [1] In chapter four, the administered questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted. The findings revealed that there is a high rate of influence of socio-economic status on the educational growth of adolescents in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. Other findings were revealed in this chapter. Chapter five, contains general discussion of findings, summary of research, conclusion reached and recommendation put forward to eliminate the constraint facing the educational growth of adolescents.
