Abstract
This study examines how the combination of language, images, and spatial layout convey messages of religious beliefs, values, and practices in Deeper Life Christian Women Mirror. This study employs Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (MCDA) theory to analyze Deeper Life Christian Women Mirror studying how various messages are conveyed through different modes of communication like images, layouts, texts, and gestures e.t.c. This systematic approach merges different analytical tools such as Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA),Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA), and Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL). This study is limited to five physical copies of Deeper Life Christian Women Mirror, issued in 2024-2025, primarily from local Deeper Life Bible Church branches in Benin City, focusing on the themes of principles for spiritual growth, healthy living and child nurturing. These collected copies will be subjected to a systematic multimodal discourse analysis (MDA), drawing on theoretical frameworks primarily from Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen, recognizing that meaning is simultaneously constructed through multiple semiotic modes beyond just written language. Moreover, this study focuses on specific sections of the magazine such as articles on spiritual growth, child training and health talk e.t.c. AN ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF ONLINE NEWSPAPER REPORTING ON PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF CRIME AND JUSTICE: A STUDY OF PUNCH AND VANGUARD NEWSPAPERS

Year of Publication
Publication Type
Abstract
This research explores the dynamic interplay between online newspaper reporting and public perception of crime and justice issues, with a particular focus on the Nigerian media landscape. As online newspapers have gained prominence in the information landscape, understanding their influence on how the public views matters related to crime and justice becomes increasingly vital. The study delved into the reporting practices of two major Nigerian online newspapers, Punch and Vanguard, aimed at deciphering how their coverage of crime and justice impacts public perception. It employed content analysis as the research method, systematically collecting and analyzing data from a total of 178 editions of both newspapers published between January 1, 2023, and March 31, 2023.The findings of this study offer noteworthy insights. Media organizations, it appears, give considerable coverage to crime and justice issues, but often lack prominence in their reporting. Their interpretative function falls short, as most articles tend to present straight news. Furthermore, the frequency of reporting on these critical topics is not as high as might be expected. The media's standpoint leans more towards the negative side concerning crime and justice matters, with a particular focus on criticism and public reactions to policies. In light of these findings, several recommendations emerge. Media organizations are urged to maintain a balanced emotional tone in their news reporting. Increased frequency in reporting on policy-related issues, especially in their early stages, is advised to enhance public understanding. The media should prioritize informative reporting that enlightens the public rather than emphasizing stories of conflict and policy challenges. Finally, a call is made for
the media to uphold neutrality, truth, and accuracy in their reporting to present a fair representation of government policies. This research underscores the pivotal role of online newspapers in shaping public perceptions of crime and justice in Nigeria. It contributes to the fields of media studies and journalism, offering a comprehensive examination of how these newspapers influence public opinion and policy-making in this crucial domain.

Abstract
Kidnapping has gained ascendancy in Nigeria over the last decade. Despite the government’s effort to nip this daunting societal menace in the bud, it has graduated and developed more terrifying modus operandi. One thing is certain; kidnapping has become a terrorist act in the country, spanning from the Niger Delta militants in Southern Nigeria to that of the Boko Haram insurgents in the Northern part of the country. The Chibok and Dapchi girls’ incident which brought the Nigerian State to the global arena cannot be easily forgotten. A malady previously unknown to the people has rapidly become domesticated. Kidnapping is undeniably, a crime of ancient origin. As persistent and resurgent as this crime is however, governments of nations of the world have continually devised means of curbing the crime or at least reducing its occurrence to the barest minimum through the instrumentality of the law. The business of securing lives and properties in the State is a paramount one to any government hence, structures must be put in place and efforts made in perpetuity to ensure this is guaranteed the citizens. Nigeria as a country has witnessed a colossal increase in kidnapping in recent years. Despite the various laws enacted and implemented against such offence. The law acting as an instrument of social control and as the last hope of the common man has stepped up to address this anomaly. The law institutions confronted with the saddening reality that the penalty for kidnapping was disproportionate and inadequate, had to toughen the anti- kidnapping laws, in some cases as a capital offence to act as a possible deterrent. However, the recurring increment in the spate of kidnapping (even of law officers) in the face of the current legal regime leave one in doubt if the current laws are well designed to tackle this daunting menace.

Abstract
Comparative Performance analysis of Selected Working Fluids in a low temperature organic RankineCycle forWasteHeatrecoveryApplication. The global imperative to improve energy efficiency necessitates the effective recovery of low- gradewast heat, achallengeperfectlyaddressedbytheorganicRankineCycle (ORC)technology. This project undertakes a comprehensive comparative analysis of selected candidate organic
working fluids – including Ethanol, Toluene, Cyclopentane, R245fa, R1233zd(E) and R152a, drawn fromthe categories ofdry, wet andisentropic fluids, withina low temperatureORCsystem designed for industrial waste heat recovery. The primary goal isto identify the optimal fluid that maximizesthermodynamic performance under a specified heatsource temperature (e.g 206 0Cto 123.70C). A thermodynamic model was developed to simulate the cycle’s performance. The selected fluids areevaluatedagainstkeymetricssuchasnetworkandthermal efficiency. Initial simulation results reveal significant variability in cycle performance, depending on the fluid’s criticaltemperature, boilingpointandcondensationtemperatures andpressures. The findings provide a data driven basisforselecting aworking fluid that not only achieves higher power generation but also minimizes system’s complexity and investment cost, thereby acceleratingthedeploymentofsustainablelowtemperaturewasteheatrecoverysystems

Abstract
This study examines the relationship between unemployment in Nigeria and its impact on the academic performance of university students, with a particular focus on the University of Benin. The research investigates how high unemployment rates influence students’ motivation, academic choices, and overall performance, considering factors such as financial constraints, psychological stress, and perceptions of the labor market. Data were collected through the administration of structured questionnaires to a representative sample of students. Findings reveal that the persistent unemployment crisis contributes significantly to reduced academic motivation, increased anxiety about the future, and a tendency toward underperformance. The study further highlights the socio- economic pressures on students, such as inability to afford learning materials, reduced concentration in studies, and declining interest in certain disciplines perceived to have limited employment opportunities. It concludes that unemployment not only undermines students’ academic outcomes but also discourages investment in higher education. The research recommends stronger government intervention in job creation, career support programs in universities, and policies to better align academic curricula with labor market needs, thereby reducing the negative influence of unemployment on academic performance.

Abstract
This study examined a comparative analysis of parenting styles and their impact on
academic performance of senior secondary school students in Ovia North-East Local
Government Area of Edo State. The population comprised of all senior secondary school
students in Ovia North-East, while a sample of 300 students was selected using simple
random sampling technique. The research aimed to determine how different parenting
styles namely, authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful, influence students’ academic achievements. The study employed a quantitative descriptive survey design to
examine the impact of different parenting styles on students’ academic performance. A
structured questionnaire was used to gather data from respondents categorized according
to four major parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful. The findings revealed that students raised under authoritative parenting recorded the highest level of academic performance of (60%), followed by students raised under authoritarian parenting (44.7%). In contrast, permissive and neglectful parenting styles
produced fewer students with high academic achievement recording 31.6% and 20%
respectively. Students raised under neglectful or uninvolved parenting styles recoded the
highest percentage of low academic performance (33.3%), which implies that students
with minimal or no parental guidance or support are prone to poor academic performance. The computed Chi-square (χ²) value of 43.2 with 6 degrees of freedom at the 0.05 level of significance indicated a significant relationship between parenting style and students’ academic performance. The study concludes that the authoritative parenting style has the most positive influence on students’ academic achievement and recommends that parents adopt a balanced, supportive, and communicative approach to child-rearing to enhance
their children’s educational outcomes
