AN ANALYSIS OF THE LEVEL OF EXPOSURE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES

Abstract
The study was based on “An Analysis of the Level of Exposure of Secondary School Students to Social Networking Sites in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State”. In order to achieve the intended objectives of the study, five research questions were raised and
answered using the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised of the 80 senior secondary school students in public and private schools in Ovia North East L.G.A. of Edo State. A well-structured questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information for the study. The data collected were analysed into tables using simple percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions as well as interpretation of the information gathered. The findings of the study revealed that WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter/X are the predominant social networking sites among secondary school students, while Instagram was the least used. That students are highly exposed to social networking sites, also, findings revealed that both male and female students showed high exposure to social networking sites amongst others. Based on the findings, it was recommended that educators and school administrators should integrate digital literacy and responsible social media use into the school curriculum, that parents should actively monitor and guide their children’s social media use, that policymakers and education authorities should design policies that regulate the use of mobile devices during school hours; furthermore, that school counsellors and mental health professionals should provide sensitization programs and counselling to address issues such as cyberbullying, online peer pressure etc. and finally, it was recommended that special attention should be paid to demographic differences revealed in this study.

This study examined analysis of the level of parents involvement on students’ academics in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, four research questions were raised . The population of this study consist of the twenty-eight (28) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5973 (JS2) students. The population of this study consist of the twenty-eight (28) public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5973 (JS2) students. The instrument for this research was a structured questionnaire titled “Level of Parents Involvement Questionnaire (LPIQ), The instrument was validated by the supervisor. Data collected for research question were analyzed using mean and standard deviation The findings from the research questions showed that there is a high level of parents involvement in students academics, examination, course work and co-curricular activities in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State. Based on the findings it was recommended that parents who are not involved in their children education should be constantly sensitized while those who are involved should be encouraged to continue doing so.

AN INVESTIGATION OF THE LEVEL OF STUDENT CENTERED LEARNING IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

This study dealt on the investigation of the level of student centered learning in the university of Benin. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size comprised of the 100 lecturers, which will be randomly selected from over 500 lecturers in the university of Benin North. The - questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. With the aid of the stratified sampling technique, An analysis of data was done using mean score. Criterion mean score of 2.50 was used as selection criterion. The findings showed that lecturers at the University of Benin, implement student centered learning with a grand mean of 3.7 indicating a high level of interest and engagement of student-centered learning It was also concluded that science lecturers implement student centered learning more than humanities lecturers t was therefore recommended that lecturers should be more informed about the benefits of student centered" learning and engage it teaching more to help students get the most of their learning experience. The government and educational authorities should consider the findings of this study valuable to the point of informing other universities about student centered learning as well as providing necessary support for implementation.

This study is aimed at studying the teaching manpower situations for economics in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of this study, three research questions were raised and examined. Data was collected from six senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The checklist was the instrument used for data collection. The survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of the data was done using the mean score and ratio. The findings from the study includes that the quality and quantity of economics teachers in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State is adequate. It was concluded that the quality of economics teachers improves their effectiveness as teachers and improves the academic performance of the students in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. Some of the recommendations made include that there should be training and retraining of staffs so thet they can keep giving their best and be efficient. Also, there should be provisions for building new classes in advance so as to avoid overcrowding in the classes.

There is a growing body of knowledge on effective Teacher Professional Development (TPD), with a consensus that skews in favour of decentralized, school-based and teacher-centred approach to TPD as opposed to the centralised, traditional and top-down approach. This researchwork focus on the assessment of the level of teachers’ public professional development
programmes in public primary school in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study employed the use of descriptive survey design. The choice of descriptive design is the appropriate sociological research design for measuring the attitudes and behavior of a large number of people. Since it is seldom possible to question everyone concerned with a certain social problem, therefore a random sample is used. The tool used to gather data is a questionnaire. It was constructed by the researcher and It is organized in accordance with the study's guiding research questions. A four point scale of Strongly agree [SA], Agree [A], Disagree (D), Strongly Disagree [SD] were used. Simple percentage and mean analysis were used to analyzed data obtained. Base on the data obtained, it was discovered that, Head teachers in large public primary schools are more effective and efficient in carrying out regular supervision of teachers than head teachers in small public primary schools and The level of school based teachers’ professional development programs in large public primary school is higher compared to that of small public primary school.

This study investigated the assessment of the attitude of secondary school students towards Economics in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 200 students randomly selected from SS1 and SS2. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean score. Criterions mean score of 2.50 was used as selection criterion.The findings from the study include that teaching methods, mastery of subject matter, conducive learning environment and availability of resources all constitute factors influencing the attitude of students towards Economics. It was concluded that there is positive attitude of SS1 and SS2 students towards Economics in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It was therefore recommended among others that since there is positive attitude of students towards the study of Economics, government should continue to ensure that the subject matter of Economics remain a top priority in order to sustain the interest of students.

in carrying out this study. The population for this study was made up of all the 52 senior secondary schools principals and all the teachers in the 52 senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state. the sample size selected for this study is 5 school principals and 20 teachers in the 5 sample schools. this was selected using simple random sampling technique Findings from the study revealed that; The level of utilization of transformational leadership style among principals in public senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state,more experienced and less experienced public secondary school principals in ovia north east local government area utilize transformational leadership style at a high level, both male and female public secondary school principals demonstrate a high level of utilization of transformational
leadership style across all measured items. however, male principals generally reported slightly higher mean scores on most items compared to their female counterparts. The following recommendations were raised to guide this study; There
should be continuous leadership development programs organized for all principals, regardless of their years of experience, to sustain and further enhance their capacity to engage, empower, and support teachers effectively. There should be targeted support initiatives for principals in small public secondary schools to bridge the gap in transformational leadership practices compared to their counterparts in larger schools. There should be policies encouraging equitable access to leadership resources and
training for both male and female principals to ensure that all school leaders can maintain high levels of transformational leadership regardless of gender
