Abstract
Due to the general increase in the usage of petroleum resources, drilling of oil wells are frequently done in very challenging and hostile settings. Loss of circulation has been one of the main challenge facing engineers during drilling operations. Hence there have been extensive researches done over the years in order to minimize the impact of loss circulation, however, this have led to a myriad of viewpoints as to what product and method is suitable to battle it. However, a lot of the products and guidelines available for battling lost circulation are often biased towards self-promotion for a particular service company. The purpose of this study is to develop practical guidelines that are universal and not biased towards any particular service company product and which will also serve as a reference guide for lost circulation prevention and control at the well-site for drilling personnel

Abstract
Chasmanthera dependens stem is used in African traditional medicine as a remedy for various maladies and also as a as a remedy for leprosy and lupus; however, scientific evidence tovalidateits uses in gastric ulcer healing is lacking. This study investigated the 'Gastroprotective effect of methanol extract of Chasmanthera dependens on aspirin induced ulcerated rats. Atotal numberof twenty-five (25) albino Wistar rats weighing between (120g-200g) were usedinthegastroprotective screening. The rats were randomly divided into three (3) control groups (n=15)and two (2) test groups (n=10) which are classified as follows; Normal control (n=5):
Administered only clean water and commercial feed, Negative control (n=5): Aspirin (300mg/kg)body weight. Positive control (n=5): Misoprostol (20mg/kg) body weight for seven (7) days+Aspirin (300mg/kg) body weight, Gastroprotective (n=5): Chasmanthera dependens extract (250mg/kg) body weight for seven (7days) + Aspirin (300mg/kg) body weight, Gastroprotective(n=5): Chasmanthera dependens extract (500mg/kg) body weight + Aspirin (300mg/kg) bodyweight. The animals were fasted for a period of 24hours, 300mg/kg body weight dose of aspirinwas used to induce ulcer. After four (4) hours, under light anaesthesia by chloroform, the animal swere sacrificed, stomach removed, washed, opened on greater curvature and examined for ulceration. Gastric injuries, ulcer index, pH and acid output were evaluated. The results obtained revealed gastric mucosa damage as evident by marked morphological changes, increasedulcerscore, ulcer index and acid output at p< 0.05. Results of this study showed that methanol can effectively extract the active constituents responsible for anti-ulcerogenic properties. This result has therefore justified the use of extracts of roots of Chasmanthera dependens in the traditional treatment of gastric ulcers in Nigeria.

Abstract
Lawsonia inermis commonly known as henna has been used traditionally, especially in ayurvedic medicine, for various conditions including liver ailments, and reported to have hepatoprotective properties. This study aims to study the effect of aqueous extract of L.
inermis leaves in acute ethanol induced hepatic damage in adult Wistar rats. Thirty (30) female rats were equally divided into five (5) groups (I-V). Group I which served as control received distilled water for 28 days. Group II received Lawsonia inermis for 28 days. Group
III received 100 mg/kg of lead acetate only for 28 days. Group IV simultaneously received 100 mg/kg of lead acetate and treated with 70mg/kg of silymarin for 28 days to serve as reference drug. Group V simultaneously received 100mg/kg of lead acetate and treated with
200mg/kg of L. inermis for 28 days. Group VI simultaneously received 100mg/kg of lead acetate and treated with 400mg/kg of L. inermis for 28 days. Group VII received 400mg/kg of L. inermis and followed with 100mg/kg of lead acetate after 30 minutes for 28 days. All
animals were sacrificed on the twenty ninth (29th) day. Body weight changes and liver body weight index were determined. Liver tissues were collected for assessment of enzymes concentration, and also for haematoxylin and eosin staining. Body weight increased in all
groups from initial mean weight of 180.1 g, though significantly (p<0.05) only in Group IV, Group V and Group VI. Liver body weight index was highest in Group I, and was significantly (p<0.05) different from Group III and Group V. Lead administration reduced level of enzyme aspartate Transferase significantly and increased the value of total bilirubin significantly of (P<0.05) although decrease was seen in enzymes like unconjugated bilirubin, alkaline phosphate and alanine Transferase and increased in conjugated bilirubin but these
were not significant to (P<0.05) H&E staining revealed attenuation of the effects of Lead administration by the extract and silymarin, though the extract proved more effective at 400 mg/kg dose and duration of 28 days. Promising result was also observed in the group that
received 200mg/kg dose over a duration of 28 days.

WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF ASHAKA COMMUNITY USING PRINCIPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS (PCA).

Year of Publication
Publication Type
Abstract
Water quality assessment of Ashaka Community has been carried out using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the prevalent parameters during wet and dry seasons respectively. The total of ten (10) samples; nine (9) groundwater and one (1) surface water sample(s) were collected at random to cover the area of study during both seasons. The results showed that pH, EC, Cl, TSS and alkalinity were the most prevalent parameters in both seasons. Furthermore, other parameters measured besides pH, E-Coli and Coliform counts were below the values set by the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) and World Health Organization (WHO). The high values of E-Coli and Coliform counts revealed the presence of biological contaminants in the water. The moderately acidic values obtained in the water samples and the high concentration of E-Coli and Coliform counts rendered the water unfit for drinking except routine treatment is administered( a neutralizing filter is used if drinking water is acidic to raise the pH to neutral synthetic magnesium oxide treats water with pH less than 6). However, the quality of water in the area can be used for crops production.
