PERCEIVED IMPACT OF NUTRITION ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF PUPILS IN NURSERY SCHOOLS IN BENIN CITY

Abstract
This study was carried out to bring to limelight the perceived impact of nutrition on
the academic performance of pupils in Benin City. Three research questions were
raised to guide the study. A descriptive survey design was used in this study. The
population of the study consisted all private nursery school teachers in Benin City. The sample size of the study was One hundred (100) teachers drawn from the
population. Structured questionnaires were used to elicit responses from the
respondents. The data were analyze with frequency and simple percentages. The findings indicated that:
(a) Nutrition do have a great impact on the academic performance of pupils in
Nursery Schools
(b) The school certainly has an important role to play in improving the nutritional
status of children
(c) Parents to a large extent do have the greatest role to play in ensuring the
nutritional intake of their children. On the basis of these above findings, it was recommended that Government should
make compulsory the inclusion of nutritional education in school curriculum as this will go a long way in fostering nutrition among nursery pupils, Schools should organize seminars for parents and teachers on the importance of improving health of
their children through balance diet and inclusion of all classes of food. Parents and guardians should work hard to earn sufficient funds for their children and wards to feed adequately.

Research hypotheses guided the study. To achieve this, the descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study focused on Faculty of Education University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State hence, population consists of 120 students in different
Departments The simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of students. A Questionnaire type, titled: Social Media and Academic Performance of Students Questionnaire (SMAAPOS) was used to collect data from the participants. The descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage, were used to analyze the demographic data. Research findings showed that a great number of students in Faculty of Education University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, are addicted to social
media. To this end, the researcher recommended that social media should be used for educational purposes as well; Social Networking Sites should be expanded and new pages should be created to enhance academic activities and avoid setbacks in the students’ academic performance; and Students should be monitored by Lectures on how they use these sites This is to create a balance between social media and academic activities of students to avoid setbacks in the academic performance of the

The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes and effects of indiscipline among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area Edo state. The incessant occurrence of chaotic and sometime criminal behaviour not only by the audit population but also the students of this country in recent times has since began to give cause for concern, particularly to parents, governments and school administrators. Questionnaires form 5 different public secondary school in Edo State consisting of 100 respondents selected randomly from Egor local government area using Simple Random Sampling Technique varying from students to teachers were analyzed. Among other things, it was found that peer groups to a large extent have influence on
their fellow students; also the parents of the students are not left out as they too in one way or the other contribute positively and negatively to the behaviour of a child.

The purpose of this research work is to examine the extent to which the selected public secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State utilize quality and adequate instructional materials in classrooms and how this has promoted the academic performance of students.The aims of the study were to find out the extent to which the selected public secondary
in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State utilize quality and adequate instinct materials and how it had promoted academic performance of students, to explore the views of teachers and students on the extent to which instructional materials affects student’s performance and also the challenges that teachers in public secondary schools face in accessing instructional materials. The study employed survey method with questionnaire as a tool to elicit response from the respondents, from a sample size of one hundred and thirty- eight (138) respondents.The following were findings of the study: first, instructional materials are the key to teachers’ and students’ performance. Secondly, most public secondary schools in Egor local government Area of Edo state suffer shortage of essential teaching and learning materials. Thirdly, the study revealed that teachers used different strategies to minimize the challenges of attaining and using quality instructional materials like borrowing books and improvation.

The study examined the acquisition of Information and Communication technology (ICT)/as determinants of ICT Skills of library staff in Edo State libraries. The specific objectives of the study were aimed at examining the frequency of acquisition of ICT in libraries, frequency of use of ICT in libraries, various ICT tools acquired in libraries, perception of library staff towards the
acquisition of ICT, level of ICT skills of library staff as well as challenges encounter by the library staff in the use of ICT. Six research questions were raised for this study. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 135 respondents drawn from both national and public libraries in Edo state. The sample size for this study was 135 respondents and the total enumerative sampling technique was used. The instrument used for data collection was the
questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Abstract
This study examined the influence of parental socio-economic status (SES) on the attitude of secondary school students toward learning in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. Six research questions were raised and hypothesized. The hypotheses were tested at 0.5 level of significance. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 102 students selected through a stratified random sampling technique from both public and private Secondary schools. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire validated by experts and found reliable with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.682. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and Two-Way ANOVA.

The study focuses on The Influence of the use of Mobile Phone facilities on the Academic Achievement of Library and Information Science Students of University of Benin. The purpose of the study was aimed at identifying the level of the use of mobile phones facilities by Library and information science students in the University of Benin, determining the influence of mobile phones facilities on the academic performance of Library and information science students in the University of Benin, Ascertaining the extent to which the use of mobile phones facilities can influence the academic performance of undergraduate Library and information science students in the University of Benin, and Analyzing the problems of the use of mobile phones facilities on the academic performance of undergraduate Library and information science students in the University of Benin. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 328 comprising of 100 to 400 Level library and Information Science students were used as the total population of the study. A sample size of 100 was adopted to be used as the number of respondents. A questionnaire titled “Influence of the use of Mobile Phone facilities on the Academic Achievement of Library and Information Science Students of University of Benin Questionnaire (IUMPFOAALISSUBQ)” was designed by the researcher and used for data collection. A total of 100 copies of questionnaire were administered and 100 copies were duly completed, returned and found useable for this study. PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP STYLE AND TEACHERS' EFFECTIVENESS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study investigated the influence of principals’ leadership styles on teachers’ effectiveness in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Specifically, it examined the extent to which democratic, autocratic, charismatic, and laissez-faire leadership styles affect teachers’ instructional delivery, classroom management, and professional commitment. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A structured questionnaire titled “Principal Leadership Style and Teacher Effectiveness Questionnaire (PLSTEQ)” was used to collect data from ninety-three (93) teachers across selected senior secondary schools. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to answer the research question, while simple linear regression and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were employed to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that charismatic and democratic leadership styles are predominantly practiced by principals, whereas autocratic and laissez-faire styles
are less common. Democratic, charismatic, and laissez-faire leadership styles were found to significantly enhance teachers’ effectiveness, while autocratic leadership style had no significant effect. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between principals’ leadership styles and teachers’ job effectiveness. The study concluded that effective school leadership positively influences teachers’ performance, and leadership approaches that emphasize participation, inspiration, and shared responsibility are more effective than authoritarian or hands-off approaches. The study recommended that principals adopt democratic and
charismatic leadership practices, minimize autocratic tendencies, and apply laissez-faire leadership moderately.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship
between principals leadership styles and job satisfaction of teachers in Oredo local government area of Edo State. A descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. four(4) research questions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study two hundred and eighty eight (288) teachers with eleven (11) public senior schools in Oredo local government area, with sample size of One hundred (100) teachers from eleven (11) senior secondary schools in Oredo local government area were randomly sampled from the population. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Management; while the test- re test reliability method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study reveals that Principals in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area have good leadership styles. The level of job satisfaction of teachers in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area is high .Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made for the study: Teachers should be given promotion when due and in service training should be implemented .The teachers should be highly remunerated .Health insurance, staff accommodation and high remuneration, should be given to teachers regardless of position, it will increase the productivity of a teacher. Appreciation and appraisal should be given to teachers in other to performance well in the teaching process. Intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation should be highly considered in the teaching profession .The government should give a strict follow up of the financial budget allocate to the Education sector
