Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the assessment of the factors influencing the non-participation of women in community development programmes: A case study of Oredo local government area of Edo state. The sample for the study comprises of 75 women selected from government workers, teachers and traders in Oredo local government through a simple random sampling procedure. The research design used for this study is the survey and the questionnaire was used for the collection of data. The analysis of the data lead to the following findings: women don’t participate in community development programmes and that the level of their participation is at the lowest ebb; husband and societal valuesis a hindrance to women's participation. Culture and religion also impede women’s participation, and education help to encourage women to participate in community development programmes. It was therefore recommended that community leaders should be those that could be trusted by the entire community, campaign for women participation should be made more effective through the use of local dialects, necessary mechanism should be put in place through which the women’s felt need canbemet and more women should be involved in the planning and policy making inall aspect of our national life and development

Abstract
The study examined the role of adult education in promoting women empowerment in Oredo local government area of Edo state. However, four research questions were raised to guide the study which includes; 1. What are the adult education programmes existing in Oredo local government area of Edostate? 2. How does the adult education programme in Oredo local government promote women empowerment? 3. What are the challenges faced by women in access to adult education programme aimed at promoting empowerment? 4. To what extent do community perceptions and cultural factors influence the participation of women in adult education programmes, and how these factors affect the outcomes of empowerment initiatives in Oredo L.G.A. The study adopted a survey research design with a sample size of 100 respondents drawn through a simple random sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire designed with a modified Likert Scale method made up of a-two-point rating scale of Yes or No was however adopted for the study. After the validation of the instrument, it was pilot-tested on a sample of 20 respondents for reliability and the data collected were analysed using descriptive which involved frequency count, simple percentages and mean score. The findings revealed the following: The first research question, which bothers on the existence of adult education programmes in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State revealed that there are several adult education programmes existing in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. As majority of the respondents strongly agreed to this assertion. Secondly, research question 2 revealed how adult education programmes in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State promote women empowerment. The findings revealed that a whopping percentage of the respondents strongly agreed that the adult education programmes in Oredo Local Government Area can promote women empowerment. The findings revealed that the perception of the community towards the participation of women in adult education programmes is relatively high and encouraging, as a striking percentage of the respondents strongly agreed to this assertion. Based on the study’s findings, the following recommendations were made: firstly, the government should develop a financial assistance scheme or scholarships, grant or low-interest loans to help women overcome financial constraints and afford participation in adult education programmes secondly, the literacy providers should launch a targeted awareness campaigns to inform potential adult learners about the availability and benefits of adult education programmes, utilizing various channels such as community outreach events, social media, and partnerships with local organizations.

The subject matter of this research work is the problems of the education of the physically challenged in Nigeria. A case study of Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The total population of this study was two hundred and sixty-seven (267) persons, using a simple random sampling technique, the numbers of respondents became one hundred (100). Four research questions were formulated to guide the study, from which the questionnaire was designed. From the analyzed data, it showed that the problems of educating the physically challenged students in schools include; Unequipped teachers, lack school facilities, attitude of non-disabled students towards physically handicapped student. That the identify the conditions for educating physically challenged students include; facilities like braille reading materials, measurement kits for the visually impaired, hearing aids for hearing impaired. That the instructional resources provided for the education of the physically challenged include; Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM), National Instructional Materials Access Centre (“NIMAC”), it was revealed that there are specialized teachers, equipped classrooms, and facilities.That government should ensure that the classroom is arranged in such a manner that the physically challenged child can move above the classroom with minimum stress, extra time should be given to students to enable them conclude assigned functions and for carrying out assignments and tests

INFLUENCE OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS ON WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION IN ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMMES IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This research study examined Influence of Socio-Economic Status on Women's Participation in Adult Literacy Programmes. The sample of the study consists of 50 respondents selected through the simple random sampling technique from five different adult literacy centers in Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study and the result of the study showed that income, costs of transportations, materials and fees, and financial instability restrict women access to literacy programmes. Financial barriers present a formidable obstacle to women's participation in adult literacy programmes. The study also showed that cultural norms often view women's primary role as homemakers, limiting their educational pursuit, and women with higher educational levels are more likely to seek out additional literacy training to enhance their skills for personal or professional development. On the basis of the findings, summary was made and recommendations were given, among which include; cultural barriers being addressed through awareness campaigns that are led by community leaders and influencers, there should be reduction in the cost of literacy programmes through the provision of subsidies, free materials, and transportation support, the adoption of online platforms and mobile learning tools to reach women who are unable to attend in-person classes, and literacy training should be combined with practical skills such as financial management and vocational training to increase relevance.

This study was carried out to investigate the influence of mass media
on political awareness among youth in Benin city Four research questions were raised for this study which are outline how does exposure to different forms of mass media affect the political awareness and engagement of Nigerian youth? What role do specific mass media platforms, play in shaping the political opinions and behaviours of Nigerian youth? What are the perceptions and experiences of Nigerian youth regarding the portrayal of political issues and actors in mass media? To what extent do Nigerian youth trust the information disseminated by mass media regarding political events and issues?
The population of the study comprised of one hundred and seventyfour thousand, three hundred and sixty-two students (171,362) according to
the population census conducted in 2006. The sample for the study consists of one hundred and fifty (150) youths. The sample size for this study was selected using the random sampling technique. The major findings of the study it was revealed that the print media work
well with participatory approaches. it was indicated that unemployment is one of the socio-economic factors that influence the political awareness of Nigerian youth. It was seen that some students do not ask questions in class. It was seen that students like schools were the teachers are friendly. it was revealed that poverty is one of the socio-economic factors influence the political awareness of Nigerian youth. From the study it was recommended that to ensure effective, efficient and un-biased political mobilization by the mass media, there should be completely total autonomy, which will in turn ensure a free and independent press. It is the researcher's opinion that the independence of the media can go a long way to make things right and purposeful in political mobilization by the media to the general public benefit.

This study evaluated the use of ICT in the teaching and learning processes amidst pandemic in Adult Literacy Centres in Oredo Local Government Area. The population of the study comprised of facilitators and adult learners in three Adult literacy centres in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The study comprised a sample of 120 respondents (25 facilitators and 95 learners), who were selected using the simple random selection method technique. Five research questions were raised, and the questionnaire research instrument was used. The questionnaire comprised of 20 items to enable the proper analyses and evaluation of the research question raised. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using the test-retest method. Data collection was analysed using simple percentages. The anaylsis reviewed that Adult Literacy Centres made use of minimum ICT equipment and mediums to aid the teaching and learning processes of the Adult Learners. It also revealed that facilitators in Adult Literacy Centres should be trained on the use of ICT gadgets and equipment to enable sustainable use and continuous teaching and learning. There should also be the conscious involvement and integration of ICT in Adult Literacy Centres especially because of the still present COVID19 virus Pandemic.

The study investigated the perception of the nomenclature ‘Adult and Non- Formal Education’ by the students of Adult and Non-Formal Education, University of Benin. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The population was comprised of 100 undergraduates of Adult and Non- Formal Education, 25 students from each level of the undergraduate study constituted the sample of the study. A researcher based questionnaire designed to find out how the students perceive the nomenclature of the department, validated for face and content with a reliability coefficient of 0.74 by test re-test method was used to collect information from the respondents. Research questions were used as the basis for the analysis of the results. The results of the study are in the following order; the students of Adult and Non- Formal Education are not proud of the nomenclature of the department, the students of Adult and Non-Formal Education are ashamed of the nomenclature of the department, majority of the students of Adult and Non- Formal Education are interested in school politics but are not confident to contest for the post of the SUG president for fear that they would lose out in the election because of the nomenclature of the department, the students of the department substitute the nomenclature of the department with other names they prefer in order to hide the shame that the nomenclature of the department brings to them, also, the students of the department wish for a change of the nomenclature of the department. The following were recommended; the students of the department should be encouraged to identify with the department and spread the good news of adult education to the society, the students should be encouraged to contest for elective posts in the school and stop concluding that they would fail when they haven’t tried, the nomenclature of the department should be changed to a nomenclature that is more fashionable than Adult and Non-Formal Education so as to make students feel proud to tell people their course of study and stop substituting the nomenclature of their department with other names

THE ROLE OF MICRO FINANCE BANKING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL COMMUNITIES IN WARRI SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

The focus of this study was to appraise the role of Micro Finance banking in the development of rural communities in Warri South Local Government Area. To the enable the study achieve its objectives, six research questions were raised. The major instrument for data collection for the study was self- constructed questionnaire. A total of three hundred and thirty-two (332) participants selected from communities in the area under study as well as fifty members of staff of micro finance banks in the area under study constituted the sample for the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, simple percentage, bar and pie charts and mean score standard to analyze the collected data. Findings from the study revealed that the various financial services
offered by the micro finance banks in Warri South Local Government Area include provision of micro credit for business in the rural areas, loans to community members, and funds for the establishment of farmlands and that micro finance banks provides skill acquisition programme to the community members, training on economic skills for members of the community, loans for the establishment of business and enabled youths become self-employed. It was also discovered that the rural development activities pursued by the micro finance banks in the area include provision of water to the community, electrifying the community and repairing bad roads. However some of the challenges encountered by the micro finance banks in carrying out its activities
in the host communities include lack of or poor cooperation from members of the communities, insufficient fund and bad loans. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that there is need for micro finance institutions to identify money ventures in the community and invest in them. This will enable communities have some funds at their disposal to carry out developmental projects on their own. Community members should be encouraged to participate in skill acquisition programmes
provided by micro finance banks. Effort should also be made at developing the human resources in the community through award of scholarships to students and micro finance banks should evolve policies that will enable them monitor the loans and credit facilities given to community members so as to ensure that they are recovered as at when due.
