Abstract
This study aimed at examining the influence of assistive technology in special education. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample consisted of 100 respondents (teachers) randomly selected from 10 schools in Ovia North East Local Government. Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 100 (one hundred) respondents which were basically teachers. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two expert in the department of educational evaluation and counselling psychology The test re-test method was adopted in testing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher herself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that teachers have the right perception on the effects of assistive technology in classes with special needs children. It was also revealed that Teachers have the right attitude towards the use of assistive technology in classes with special needs children. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Government and other stakeholders should organize workshop, seminars and other capacity building training regularly for teachers as means of updating their knowledge and skills in the use of assistive devices considering the dynamic nature of special education technology. It was also recommended that Special education teacher training institutions should include assistive technology in their preparatory programme that will equip pre-service teachers with the necessaryknowledge and skills that will ensure a minimum level of competence in the classroom.

FACTORS AFFECTING THE ACQUISITION OF ADAPTIVE BEHAVIOUR SKILLS AMONG LEARNERS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF EDO STAT

The study investigated Factors affecting the acquisition of adaptive behaviour skills among learners with intellectual disability in Oredo local government of Edo state. Specifically, the study aimed at investigating the curriculum used for learners with intellectual disabilities in these special schools, as well as exploring the teaching/leaning resources used for learners with intellectual, while also identifying teacher factors and teaching strategies for enhancing acquisition of adaptive behavior skills among learners with intellectual disabilities and the possible factors that affects the acquisition of necessary skills. To guide the study, four research questions were raised. The study population constituted of all teachers teaching learners with intellectual disabilities and study sample was drawn from two junior secondary schools in Oredo local government of Edo stateIhogbe college and Charilove with total sample of 18 teachers. A survey design which entails the use of structured questionnaire in obtaining data on the subject matter was adopted in sampling the opinions of the respondents. A total of 18 copies of the questionnaire was sent out to the respondents, retrieved and used for analysis. The study employed descriptive mean, in analyzing the data. Findings obtained from the study established that teachers and learners have been struggling with inadequate resources for teaching learners with intellectual disabilities. In fact, all the respondents admitted that resources were inadequate for running school activities. Based on the study findings, the study recommended that government should provide regularly the equipment/resources needed in public special schools to teach children with intellectual disability in other to increase their adaptive skill

The subject matter of this research work is the problems of the education of the physically challenged in Nigeria. A case study of Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The total population of this study was two hundred and sixty-seven (267) persons, using a simple random sampling technique, the numbers of respondents became one hundred (100). Four research questions were formulated to guide the study, from which the questionnaire was designed. From the analyzed data, it showed that the problems of educating the physically challenged students in schools include; Unequipped teachers, lack school facilities, attitude of non-disabled students towards physically handicapped student. That the identify the conditions for educating physically challenged students include; facilities like braille reading materials, measurement kits for the visually impaired, hearing aids for hearing impaired. That the instructional resources provided for the education of the physically challenged include; Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM), National Instructional Materials Access Centre (“NIMAC”), it was revealed that there are specialized teachers, equipped classrooms, and facilities.That government should ensure that the classroom is arranged in such a manner that the physically challenged child can move above the classroom with minimum stress, extra time should be given to students to enable them conclude assigned functions and for carrying out assignments and tests
