INFLUENCE OF FINANCIAL LITERACY ON THE FINANCIAL BEHAVIOUR OF SUB-URBAN TRADERS IN OVIA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE.

Abstract
This study examined the Influence of Financial Literacy on the Financial Behaviour of Sub-Urban Traders. It aimed to determine the extent to which being financially literate can affect the choices and decisions of sub-urban traders when it comes to dealing with finance. In line with the convention in research, five research questions were raised for investigation on the basis of the purpose and basic assumptions of the study. The research questions are;
1. What is the level of financial literacy of sub-urban traders in Ovia North east local government of Edo State?
2. What is the financial behaviour of sub-urban traders in Ovia North east local government
of Edo State?
3. What factors influence the financial behaviour of sub-urban traders in Ovia North east local government of Edo State?
4. Is there a relationship between financial literacy and financial behaviour of sub-urban traders in Ovia North east local government of Edo State?
5. Is there a difference in financial behaviour between male and female of sub-urban traders
in Ovia North east local government of Edo State? The design adopted for the study is the descriptive research design which provided the researcher the opportunity to conduct a general assessment of opinions, attitudes or feelings of respondents. The population was drawn from male and female sub-urban traders and in all, 250 respondents were involved. The stratified and proportionate sampling technique was used to select 125 respondents. The research instrument that was used for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Financial Literacy and Financial Behaviour Questionnaire” which was validated by the project’s supervisor and two other experts from the department of Adult and Non-Formal Education. The instrument was pilot-tested in a sample of 20 respondents whowere not part of the study sample to determine the reliability of the study. The method of data collection was through the administration of the instrument to the respondents. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics which analyzed the hypotheses formulated. The study revealed that some sub-urban traders does not have financial literacy skill as they are not aware about savings, credits insurance, investments, etc and in return, they tend to have poor negative behaviour financially. Although, some of them make a lot of sales but it does not guarantee a balanced financial behaviour as their businesses can be at risk when issues that relates to finance arises. Based on the findings of this research, the following conclusions were reached as yielded by the data analysed;
•There is a low level of financial literacy among sub-urban traders in Ovia North east
local government area of Edo State. Also, Sub-urban traders have poor financial
behaviour in Ovia North east local government area of Edo State.
•The factors influencing the financial behaviour of sub-urban traders in Ovia north east local government area of Edo State are inflation and currency rates, access to current and reliable information, psychological biases such as overconfidence, and traders’ attitudes towards investments and savings.
•More so, there is a significant relationship between financial literacy and financial
behaviours of sub-urban traders in Ovia North East local government area of Edo State.
•And finally, there is no significant difference between male and female sub-urban traders in Ovia North east local government area of Edo State.

The study was carried out to determine “influence of literacy education on the participation of women in community development programme in Ovia North East Local Government Area.” Four research questions were raised; What is the level of women
participation in literacy education programme in Ovia North East local Government Area. How does literacy education impact women's participation in community development programmes in Ovia North East Local Government Area? What strategies can be implemented to enhance women's literacy and thereby promote their effective participation in community development?
What are the challenges faced by women in accessing literacy education within the community? The target populations of the study consist of women participants in adult literacy centres in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. The population includes women literacy centres organized in the area. This represents the total number of one hundred and fifty participation (150), selected randomly using simple random sampling technique. Findings from the study revealed that; Lack of adequate awareness affected the women from effective participation in literacy education programme. Women in the community were not generally mobilized to bring about effective participation in the literacy education programme. The following recommendations are made; Adequate awareness and sensitization should be created in rural communities so as to increase their level of participation in literacy education programme. Literacy education programme should be based on the felt-needs of the women in the community, as this will go a long way to motivating and sustaining the interest of women.

This study was designed to investigate challenges of women participation in functional literacy programmes in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. In to achieve this purpose; the following research questions were raised to guide the study:
The study adopted the descriptive survey type of research design and the major instruments used for data collection was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability was determined through test-retest method. The data collected were presented in frequency count and percentage for all the four (4) research questions examined. A total of one hundred (100) women participants that is twenty (20) women were selected from five (5) skills training or acquisition centres in the area through purposive sampling techniques.
The findings of the study revealed that there are functional adult education programmes in Ovia North East Local Government Area, the programmes are of different types and there is a lack of awareness of adult educational programmes. It was recommended that, more awareness should be created by way of publicity in the various media outlet using jingles, and other forms of advertisement that more women can be aware that such programmes exist. There is a need to site more adult education centres in the various communities in Warri North-East Local Government Area of Delta State to enable women in such location participate. The scope of skills/programmes available in adult education centres should be broadened to accommodate a variety that can cater for the need and interest of would be participants. These factors have the power to sustain participation in any individual.

FACTORS INFLUENCING YOUTHS INVOLVEMENT IN SOCIAL VICES IN BENIN METROPOLIS, EDO STATE

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing youths’
involvement in social vices in Benin Metropolis, Edo State. Five research
questions were raised to guide this study.
The study adopted descriptive survey research design, the total population
of the study is the youths in Benin Metropolis while the sampled
population is a total of one hundred and twenty youths in Benin
Metropolis. The instrument used for data collection is an objective
questionnaire, this instrument was validated by the project supervisor and
other lecturers in the Department of Adult and Non Formal Education,
Faculty of Education University of Benin. The data gathered was analysed
using percentage and frequency count.
Findings from the study revealed that poverty influence youths
involvement in social vices in Benin Metropolis. Social Media influence
youths’ involvement in social vices because most times youths usually
wants to carry out what they've learnt on the social media. Family also
have a way of influencing youths involvement in social vices, families
that are not morally upright will not be able to teach and correct their
children when they see them misbehaving in the society. Peer pressure
also contributes to youths involvement in social vices, most youths wants
to feel among by engaging in all that their peers do either good or bad.
Based on the findings that emerged from this study, it was concluded that
the family, social media, poverty and peer pressure have significant
impact on the youths involvement in social vices in Benin Metropolis. In
order to make our society better there is need for us to focus and invest
more in the youths who are the future generations. Parents should train
their children in the ways and manner acceptable in the society, there is
should be restrictions on what the youth see on social media so as to
prevent them from practising what they learn

PERCEIVED IMPACT OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION ON ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BENIN CITY

This study investigates the perceived impact of effective communication on adult education programmes in Ovia North East local government area of Edo State. To achieve this purpose, the five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study: The study adopted descriptive survey research design for the study. Five (5) adult literacy centres was used for the study. One hundred and twenty adult learners were selected using the simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. The questionnaire were designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education Faculty of
Education, University of Benin. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical techniques such as table, frequencies counts, and simple percentages. Findings of the study revealed that the level of awareness of effective communication among adult learners in the area is high. It was also revealed that that the best effective ways to communicate with adult learners in the area are; adult learners should be made to participate in the communication process, the facilitators should be audible, time conscious and should use clear and unambiguous words. It was recommended Facilitators should try to create a good rapport between them and the adult learners, this will make the them to feel free to express their opinions or views. It was further recommended that facilitators should pay cursory attention to adult who have hearing difficulties and bring them to the front seat for them to hear what is been taught.
