PERCEPTION AND EFFECTIVENESS OF SEX EDUCATIONAMONGSECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTAREA

Abstract
This study assessed the perception and effectiveness of sex education among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consists of four thousand five hundred and sixty SSI to SSIII students in the Senior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area. The multistage sampling technique was employed to select 154 students from 5 schools in Egor Local Government Area. The research instrument used in the study was a four point likert scale and a dichotomous questionnaire developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by the researcher's supervisor, the reliability of the instrument was determined by using the test-retest method, and the reliability coefficient of 0.76wasobtained. The questionnaire was administered and retrieved by the researcher; out of the 154 administered questionnaire only 130 were valid and complete for the analysis. The data collected was collated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study revealed that there is a high perception of sex education among secondary school students. Students have high level of awareness of the benefits of sex education and there is a high level of effectiveness of sex education in secondary schools Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: Schools should continue to integrate comprehensive sex education into their curricula, ensuring that it covers all necessary topics to further enhance students' understanding and awareness, regular training and workshops for teachers on delivering sex education effectively should be conducted, focusing on up-to-date information and teaching methodologies and parents should be encouraged to participate in sex education programs and discussions to reinforce the information provided at school and to create a supportive environment at home.

The broad objective of this study is to examine the impact of board attributes on tax aggressiveness in Nigeria. The data were obtained from the annual reports of individual DMBs submitted to Nigerian Stock Exchange. Therefore, the data needed was extracted from the audited financial reports of the selected firms within the periods of five years. There is a positive and significant relationship between board size and tax aggressiveness. There is a positive and insignificant relationship between board diversity and tax aggressiveness. There is a negative and significant relationship between ownership concentration and tax aggressiveness. There is a negative and insignificant relationship between managerial ownership and tax aggressiveness, and there is a negative and significant relationship between foreign ownership and tax aggressiveness. The board of directors of corporate organizations in Nigeria should restructure the board in terms of diversity. We recommend that this will ensure there is an adequate mix of directors consisting of female and male, nationality mix, size, educational qualification, and professional training to possibly influence the operational performance, including tax expense reduction

Various documents are kept in the form of records. These records provide information on the past and present data of the students. The public institutions cannot perform administrative duties with accurate, timely, sufficient and relevant information. The deficiencies associated with storage, preservation and retrieval process are very cumbersome. Consequently, alternative methods provided by
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is imperative. Premised on this observation, the objectives of this study were to understand how the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has impacted the management of students’ data creation, storage and retrieval in the University of Benin, and to comprehend the factors that have constrained the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the management of students’ data. The survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study with administered questionnaires, and chi-square was used to analyze the data
gotten from the field. From this, the researcher deduced that there is a positive relationship between the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and efficient management of students’ data. The university administrators should ensure the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the management of students’ data and measures should be put in place for the training of staff and the availability of computer devices in order to ensure efficiency in the management of students’ data.

IMPACTS OF CHILD LABOUR ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF CHILDREN IN UHUNMWODE LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF EDO STATE

This study used the quantitative research method to determine the impact of child labour on academic performance of children in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. The survey design was adopted as the research design for the study and a sample size of one hundred (120) respondents were randomly taken using the simple random sampling technique. The questionnaire instrument was used for data collection and the content validity was used for validation while the test retest method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 21 was used to analyze the data using the frequency distribution and simple percentage method. The study showed that some women are highly competent for most of the job opportunities in Nigeria but yet are not adequately employed due to diverse reasons such as inequalities as a result of gender.

ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION FOR SELF-RELIANCE: A CASE STUDY OF UNIVERSITY OF BENIN UNDERGRADUATES

This study examined the relationship between self-reliance and entrepreneurial intentions among undergraduates of the University of Benin. It explored how self-reliance, perceived support, perceived desirability, and perceived feasibility influence students’ intentions to engage in entrepreneurial activities. The study targeted a population of 355 undergraduates in the faculty, and structured questionnaires were distributed to collect data. After removing incomplete orunusable responses, 300 valid questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The results revealed that self-reliance significantly influences entrepreneurial intentions, showing that students who are independent and proactive are more likely to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. Perceived support from family, mentors, and the school also positively affects entrepreneurial intentions, highlighting the importance of encouragement and resources. Additionally, students who perceive entrepreneurship as desirable and achievable were more motivated to start businesses. Regression analysis confirmed that these factors collectively have a significant impact on students’ entrepreneurial intentions. The study concludes that promoting self-reliance, providing adequate support, and enhancing the attractiveness and feasibility of entrepreneurship are key to developing undergraduates’ entrepreneurial potential. Recommendations include integrating practical entrepreneurship training into the curriculum, offering mentorship opportunities, and providing accessible financial support to encourage student entrepreneurship. These findings provide useful insights for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders seeking to foster a stronger culture of entrepreneurship among undergraduates

The study investigated the Perception of students on the impact of Guidance and Counselling services on academic performance in public secondary Schools in Oredo
Local Government area, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. Four research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted the survey research design. The population of the study was 2000 SSS2 students from five public schools in Oredo Local Government Area in Edo State Nigeria. The sample size is Seventy-nine (79) 36 males and 43 females SSS2 student selected through simple random sampling techniques. The Instrument used for data collection was a 20-item questionnaire adopted from James 2023. The instrument contains four subscales of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and strongly Disagree (SD). The instrument was validated by three experts from the Department of Educational Evaluation and Counselling Psychology. It yielded an Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficients of .667, .735, .713 and .735 for sub-scale 1,2,3 and 4 respectively. WATER TREATMENT USING BIOCHAR FROM PYROLYSIS OF SAWDUST

The main goal of this research was to explore the effectiveness of slow pyrolysis of sawdust in generating high-quality biochar with beneficial characteristics for different uses, such as soil improvement and water purification. By adjusting the pyrolysis temperature and duration, the study sought to identify the ideal conditions for producing biochar with improved physicochemical properties. Sawdust, an abundant byproduct of the timber industry, underwent slow pyrolysis in a low-oxygen environment. The process was carried out at various temperatures, ranging from 400°C to 700°C, to evaluate how temperature affects both the yield and characteristics of the resulting biochar. The produced biochar was analyzed through several techniques, such as surface area measurement, pH analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett- Teller (BET) analysis, iodine number assessment, and yield percentage evaluation. The research revealed that slow pyrolysis of sawdust produced high-quality biochar with desirable characteristics. The biochar showed elevated carbon content, a porous structure, and an almost neutral pH, making it well-suited for use in agriculture and water purification. Both laboratory and field experiments confirmed that biochar effectively enhanced soil quality, boosted water retention, and improved nutrient availability. The research also showed that up to 55% of the material could be converted into solid biochar, while the rest was produced as bio-oil and syngas. These results emphasize the sustainable and versatile advantages of utilizing slow pyrolysis of sawdust for biochar production.

CONSUMER’S ATTITUDE AND INSURANCE SALES CONTRACT IN NIGERIA: EVIDENCE FROM BENIN METROPOLIS, EDO STATE NIGERIA.

The study looks at the impact of consumer attitudes on insurance sales contracts in Benin Metropolis, Edo State, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was sent across eight departments of the University of Benin's Faculty of Management Sciences in Benin City to collect primary data. Of the 110 questionnaires distributed, 100 were returned. We employed percentage analysis for demographic data, descriptive statistics for average responses to questions, and the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression method to determine the impact of customer attitudes and other variables consider on insurance contract sales. The finding reveals that consumer’s attitude, employment and income have significant effect on insurance contract sales in Benin metropolis at 1% and 5% level respectively (except for income). Thus, the study concludes that consumer’s attitude affect insurance contract sales in Benin metropolis of Edo state Nigeria.

PREVALENCE OF INTESTINAL PARASITES AMONG HIV PATIENTS ATTENDING ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY CLINIC AT VARIOUS MEDICAL CENTERS IN BENIN CITY

Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a significant comorbidity among individuals living with HIV/AIDS, particularly in resource-limited settings. This study assessed the prevalence and distribution of intestinal parasites among HIV/AIDS patients attending ART clinics at a secondary health facility in Benin City. A total of 150 patients were recruited and stool samples were examined microscopically.Sociodemographic,clinical,andhygienerelated data were also collected using structured questionnaires, and associations were analyzed using chi-square tests.. The overall prevalence of intestinal parasites was 28.7%. The most frequently detected species were Entamoeba coli, followed by Entamoeba histolytica, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Trichuris trichiura. Prevalence was higher among females than males in both hospitals, with a statistically significant association (p = 0.042). Rural residence was also significantly associated with infection (p = 0.001). Other factors, including age, marital status, education, occupation, and hygiene practices, showed variations but no significant statistical associations. Widows and patients with tertiary education recorded disproportionately higher prevalence, while inconsistent hand washing, irregular deworming, and animal contact were linked with increased infection risk,though not statistically significant.IPIs remain common among HIV/AIDSpatients in Benin City despite ART availability. Gender, rural residence, and socioeconomic vulnerabilities contribute to the persistence of infection. Routine stool screening, targeted deworming, gender- sensitiveinterventions, and improved sanitation in rural areas are recommended to reduce the burden of parasitic co-infections and improve HIV treatment outcomes.

STUDENTS' PREFERENCE FOR CAMPUS RESTAURANTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

Students' preferences for campus restaurants are crucial for addressing issues related to restaurant satisfaction. This study investigates the correlation between student preferences and various influencing factors. The research aims to elucidate the complex factors influencing students' restaurant selections. Identifying these factors and their interrelations can assist campus restaurant services in customising offerings to accommodate student preferences, ultimately enhancing satisfaction and fostering a positive dining experience on campus. A questionnaire was administered to a sample size of 100 respondents, and dataanalysis was conducted using E-Views software, employing regression analysis to assess the relationship between variables. The research findings revealed that students prioritise restaurants offering cost-effective meal options without compromising quality. Furthermore, the accessibility of restaurants in convenient campus locations significantly influences their preferences. Diverse menu offerings catering to various dietary preferences and restrictions are also highly valued by students. Moreover, stringent adherence to hygiene standards, including cleanliness and food safety practices, is imperative in their dining choices.Additionally, students seek out restaurants that prioritise nutritional value and provide transparent nutritional information. Peerrecommendations also hold sway, as students are swayed by positive word-of-mouth endorsements from their peers. The study enhances comprehension of the factors impacting students' restaurant preferences on campus. By scrutinising affordability, accessibility, convenience, menu variety, recommendations, hygiene standards, and health considerations, the research offers valuable insights into the complex factors influencing students' choices. This deepened understanding enables campusrestaurant services to refine their offerings more adeptly to align with student preferences, thereby increasing satisfaction and fostering a positive dining experience within the university environment. Campus restaurants should prioritize affordability by offering budget-friendly meal options without compromising quality. They should ensure accessibility by strategically locatingdining facilities in easily reachable areas across the campus. Additionally, emphasising menu variety can cater to diverse dietary preferences and restrictions among students. Maintaining stringent hygiene standards is essential to uphold cleanliness and food safety. Furthermore, campus restaurants should focus on providing nutritious meal options and clear nutritional information to promote student health and well-being. Leveraging peer recommendations through positive word-of-mouth endorsements can enhance the reputation and appeal of campus dining establishments.
