AN EVALUATION OF WASTE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AMONG RESIDENTS OF OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BENIN CITY, EDO STATE

Abstract
This study evaluated waste management practices among residents of Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. The research examined how residents handle their waste, their knowledge level on proper waste management, and the key factors influencing their disposal practices. Descriptive survey design was used, and data were collected from 180 respondents across selected wards using a structured questionnaire. Findings revealed that although many residents use public bins and engage private waste collectors, some still practice open dumping and burning of refuse. The study also found that most residents have a fair knowledge of waste management meaning and principles such as the 4Rs; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover, but this knowledge is not fully reflected in their daily practices. Factors such as irregular waste collection, inadequate public bins, weak enforcement of environmental laws, and poor infrastructure were identified as major barriers to effective waste management. The study concludes that improving waste management in Oredo requires stronger policy enforcement, public education, and better waste collection systems. It recommends collaborative efforts between government agencies, private waste collectors, and residents to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AMONG UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

Background/Aim: Physical activity (PA) is vital for health promotion, yet its knowledge, ttitudes, and practices (KAP) remain sub-optimal among university students globally. his study aimed to assess the KAP of physical activity among undergraduate students at the University of Benin and explore barriers to their engagement. Methods: A descriptive ss-ectional study design was employed, and data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 398 undergraduate students. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and a validated KAP tool were used to assess physical activity levels, knowledge, attitudes, and practices respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study revealed that 61% of participants had w knowledge of physical activity, while only 8.3% demonstrated high knowledge. Most articipants (73.1%) engaged in moderate activity, while 18.1% were inactive, and 8.8% engaged in high levels of physical activity. Misconceptions persisted, with 19.6% perceiving physical activity as potentially harmful. Lack of time (84.7%) and motivation 2.8%) ere the most reported barriers to engagement. Gender and academic level significantly influenced physical activity practices (p < 0.05), with male and lower-level students participating more actively. Conclusion: Knowledge and practices of physical activity among students were sub-optimal, with notable misconceptions and barriers influencing engagement. Targeted health education campaigns, accessible activity programs, and institutional support are essential to addressing these gaps and promoting physical activity among students.

This study examined the relationship between supply chain practices specifically customer/supplier management practices (CSUMPi), technology adoption (TEADi), and integrated supply chain management practices (ISCMPi) and organizational performance (ORGPE). Using regression analysis, the study established a strong positive relationship between the independent variables and organizational performance. The findings imply that effective supply chain integration, technological innovation, and strong customer-supplier relationships are key drivers of improved efficiency, competitiveness, and performance. The study contributes to knowledge by providing empirical evidence of these relationships and by emphasizing the importance of digital transformation and integration in enhancing organizational outcomes. It also offers valuable insights for firms, particularly in developing economies, on how to optimize supply chain strategies for sustainable growth. The study concludes with recommendations for strengthening integration, investing in technology, and building collaborative supply chain relationships to achieve superior organizational performance

This study titled "Awareness, Attitudes, and Practices of Breast Self-Examination among Female Students in the University of Benin Halls of Residence" aims to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and regular practice of BSE among young women in a Nigerian university setting, with the primary goal of identifying gaps that hinder early breast cancer detection and informing targeted health education interventions. The research is grounded in behavioral theories such as the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to explore the cognitive, emotional, and socio-cultural factors influencing BSE practices among this population. It employs a cross-sectional survey design utilizing structured questionnaires administered to female students residing in the university halls of residence, with data analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical methods to determine awareness levels, attitudes, and practice patterns. The findings reveal that while a significant proportion of the students have heard of BSE, actual practice remains low, with only a minority performing it regularly and correctly. Common barriers identified include lack of adequate knowledge, cultural taboos related to modesty, fear of discovering abnormalities, and insufficient privacy, all of which contribute to poor engagement in BSE. Based on these results, the study recommends implementing culturally sensitive health education programs within university settings to improve awareness and correct misconceptions about BSE, emphasizing the importance of regular practice for early detection of breast abnormalities. It also suggests the need for policy-level interventions to create private and supportive environments that facilitate proper BSE practices among young women to reduce the incidence and mortality associated with breast cancer.

This study investigates the impact of sales promotion practices on organisational performance of 7up Bottling Company in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. Globally, sales promotion practices have evolved from traditional trade offers and in-store displays to sophisticated campaigns involving digital platforms, loyalty schemes, and time-limited discounts. In Nigeria, this evolution reflects an adaptive response to economic stressors and heightened consumer price sensitivity, with companies employing a range of promotional tools to influence buyer behaviour and build market presence. The study focuses on four key dimensions of sales promotion practices: price reduction, coupons, sampling and loyalty programs. It aims to determine how these factors influence the organisational performance of 7up Bottling Company, with a particular emphasis. A survey research design was employed, and data was collected from 137 employees of the company using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal Price reductions significantly impact organizational performance by increasing sales, improving customer satisfaction, and contributing to market share growth and competitive positioning. Coupons influence organizational performance by increasing sales, improving customer loyalty, attracting new customers, and enhancing competitive advantage. Sampling has a positive effect on organizational performance by increasing the likelihood of purchases, improving customer satisfaction, attracting new customers, and enhancing competitive positioning. Loyalty programs contribute to organizational performance by retaining customers, improving profitability, enhancing competitiveness, and supporting long-term growth and sustainability
