ASSESSMENT OF THE PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO ADULT FACILITATORS-IN-TRAINING IN BENIN METROPOLIS

Abstract
The study investigated the prospects and opportunities available to adult facilitators in-training in Benin Metropolis. Three research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The targeted population of the study included undergraduate students, post graduate students and lecturers of the Department of Adult and Non-Formal Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin. A total of 120 respondents were used as sample of the study. They were selected using the stratified, proportionate and census techniques respectively. A structured questionnaire titled "Assessment of the Prospects and Opportunities for Adult Facilitators-in-Training" (APOAFTQ) was used as the research instrument. The instrument was validated by the project supervisor and two other lecturers in the Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The reliability of the instrument was determined using the Cronbach alpha procedure of which an average weight of 0.70 was obtained. The data collected were analysed using the descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics involved frequency count, percentages and mean score with a criterion mean of 2.50 while the inferential statistics involved the use of the Pearson's r to test the hypotheses formulated. After the analyses, it was found in the study that there are job prospects and opportunities available to adult facilitators-in-training upon completion of their training programmes. It was also revealed that there are professional development opportunities available to adult facilitators-in-training in order to enhance their job productivity and career advancement. The study therefore concluded that job prospects are available to adult facilitators-in-training in Benin Metropolis. On the
basis of the findings and conclusion reached in the study, it was recommended among others that adult facilitators-in-training should give themselves to professional development in order to advance in knowledge and skill; and that adult education as a course of study should be recognized as a profession among other professions without any form of discrimination

This study investigated the effects of skill acquisition programmes onthe socio-economic empowerment of adult in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Skill Acquisition is not a strange phenomenon today. Due to the insight of empowering youths and adults alike with useful skills to make them useful in their various localities, skill acquisition centres were opened and till today, it has been in use. It is observed that students don’t show too much interest to learning new things. They rather spend their time in things that is of no economic importance. Very few students partake in skill acquisition programmes in virtually all localities. Therefore, due to the expansiveness of the geographical area and time-consuming factor of area coverage, the researcher made a step forward to investigating the impact of skill acquisition programmes in the socio-economic developments of Egor
Local Government Youths in Edo State.The design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey research.It was considered suitable for the study since a structured questionnaire was used as the research instrument to seek for the opinion of people already marked out for this study. Furthermore, the data collected was collated and analyzed. The population of this study was a total number of skill acquisition centres in Egor Local Government Area. The raw data collected from these centres after collation and analysis, were thoroughly checked for consistency and correctness. Data was analyzed by the use of simple percentages andfrequency tables. Based on the findings of this study, major recommendations revealed that the government should carry outpublic enlightenment programmes which would encourage the adults to know their needs for active participation in skills acquisition or vocational education programmes. Also, it was recommended that the government should establish skill acquisitioncentres in various communities across the federation and also equip it with various programmes to capture the learning needs of virtually all the members of that community, especially the Adult population in order for them to participate

Abstract
Rape is a worrisome epidemic that is becoming problematic in contemporary Nigeria due to many factors that are already inherent in the Nigerian society such as myths, culture of silence associated with rape, modernizing influences and peer group pressure among several others. Despite decades of feminist activism, men continue to rape women at appalling rates. Consequently, the review of related literatures was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of this work. Similarly, the descriptive survey research design was employed and to ensure the attainment of the general aim, four (4) research questions were raised and the questionnaire which was tested and validated was adopt as the instrument for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage.

This study explores the pivotal role of adult education in fostering economic development within rural communities, with a specific focus on the IkpobaOkha Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the research delves into various aspects of adult education programs, including community perceptions, social and economic impacts, employed strategies, and overall benefits. The study reveals diverse perceptions within rural communities regarding adult education, highlighting the need for targeted awareness campaigns to dispel misconceptions and increase participation. Furthermore, the research underscores the positive influence of adult education programs on social development, emphasizing behavioral changes, community engagement, and enhanced lifestyles among adult learners.Additionally, the study identifies a strong correlation between adult education and economic development, citing the acquisition of vocational skills, increased productivity, income generation, and entrepreneurship opportunities as key outcomes. To optimize the effectiveness of adult education initiatives, the study recommends adequate funding, resource allocation, community engagement, and policy enhancements. It advocates for a comprehensive approach that integrates adult education into broader development strategies, emphasizing the importance of tailored programs, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous evaluation and improvement.The study underscores the transformative potential of adult education in rural communities and calls for sustained investment, policy support, and community involvement to harness this potential for holistic community development and economic growth.

This study investigated the assessment of the utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) for adult learners in Benin metropolis. Four research questions were raised to guide the study.
A total of Four hundred and Sixty (460) participants were selected from four (4)Adult literacy centers in Benin. They were selected through Sampling technique . The major instrument used for this study was the questionnaire.
The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the Department of Adult and Non-Formal Education, University of Benin, Benin City. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages. Findings of the study revealed that the effective utilization of ICT increases the level of participation of adult learners in the literacy programmes and assists the learners to meet their outlined goals and interests. It was further revealed that the lack of efficient technological instruments is the major factor for the failure other than the success of adult literacy programmes due to their lack of effectiveness. It was recommended that the government can provide incentives and vocational training centers that would help in improving the skills of the adults. Also the government needs to fund adult literacy programmes adequately in order for it to be more effective to the adult learners and also introducing new and updated technological facilities to improve the teaching and learning process.

ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES AS TOOL FOR ERADICATION OF POVERTY AMONG WOMEN IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Abstract
This study examined Adult Education Programmes as a Tool for the Eradication of Poverty among Women in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The purpose was to assess how literacy, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship education, and empowerment derived from adult education contribute to improving women’s socio- economic conditions. The study also investigated the barriers that limit women’s participation in adult education programmes and explored strategies that can enhance their effectiveness in poverty reduction. A descriptive survey design was employed, and data were collected from one hundred women aged 18 years and above using a structured and validated questionnaire. The data were analysed using means and standard deviations to answer the six research questions. The findings revealed that adult education programmes have a significant impact on women’s literacy development, vocational skills, and entrepreneurial capacity. Literacy education was found to improve reading, writing, and numeracy skills, which enabled women to manage finances, run small businesses, and engage more productively in community life. Skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training further strengthened women’s economic independence, allowing them to generate income and contribute meaningfully to family welfare and local development. The study concludes that adult education serves as a powerful instrument for women’s empowerment and poverty reduction in Ovia North East. By enhancing functional literacy, equipping women with marketable skills, and promoting entrepreneurial thinking, adult education transforms women into active contributors to social and economic progress. It also elevates their confidence, decision-making ability, and participation in family and community affairs, reinforcing their roles as change agents in society. The study recommends that government and stakeholders should provide adequate funding, improve infrastructural facilities, and integrate financial literacy and entrepreneurship training into adult education curricula. Flexible class schedules and community awareness programmes should be intensified to accommodate working women and encourage broader participation. Through these measures, adult education can continue to advance gender equality and serve as a lasting tool for poverty eradication and sustainable development.

This research work surveys The Role of Instructional Technology in the Effective Teaching of English language in Senior Secondary schools in Oredo Local Government area of Edo state. This work shows that Instructional Technology plays a significant role in the teaching and learning of the English language, which has hitherto been a subject that many senior secondary schools’ students find challenging to pass, especially, in certificate exams such as WAEC and NECO. This work identifies six research questions to which the descriptive survey research design is employed and a well-tested and validated
questionnaire is used in gathering the answers from teachers and students of the English language in five randomly selected schools in
Oredo local government area of Edo state. Similarly, a review of related literature is carried out to provide a good basis for the conclusion of the work. Findings show that, with Instructional Technology, students, on one hand, actively perform better in the subject, find English language
lessons more interesting, engaging and stimulating, understand and learn the subject faster. On the other hand, teachers, are able to monitor
and manage the students' progress in the subject, motivate as well as stimulate the students to learn and gather real-time feedback from the
students which helps in evaluating the success of each lesson, hence, ascertaining that Instructional Technology is the best complementary tool for teachers in effectively teaching the English language and should be adopted by every school in teaching the English language
and other subjects. However, it is recommended that Instructional Technology be adopted
by every secondary school in Oredo local government area and other local government areas of edo state, in teaching the English language and other subjects, online learning should also be adopted by schools and the Edo state Government should do the best in ensuring
Instructional Technology is available in all government-owned secondary schools in the state.

The study investigated the influence of guidance and Counselling on Adult Learners Job Performance in Benin Metropolis. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. A total sample of 72 respondents selected through a simple random sampling technique was used for the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The data for the study were collected through a Questionnaire titled: Guidance and Counseling Services and Adult Learners' Job Performance in Benin Metropolis (GCSALJPQ). The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. From the study, It was found that guidance and counseling services gives guidelines in the work place, guidance and counseling services help you to adjust in a new job environment, guidance and counseling services help to monitor the job progress of the learners, guidance and counseling assist in the modification of behaviours and attitudes, guidance and counseling services help adult learners to be more competent performing their job, guidance and counseling enables adult learners to understand themselves, guidance and counseling services in Benin Metropolis lack trained counselor, inadequate funding of guidance and counseling services, adult learners expression of doubt about the efficacy of guidance and counseling services, and lack of commitment of Government officers is one of the barriers to effective guidance and counseling services in Benin Metropolis among others. The study therefore concludes that the role of guidance and counseling in adult learner’s job performance cannot be over-emphasized. Guidance and counseling services plays importance role in adult learners’ job performance due to the fact that it enhances effectiveness and efficiency in their performance and that guidance and counseling services enhance self-esteem which leads to high level of achievements and high job achievements

INFLUENCE OF FACILITATORS ATTITUDE ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF LEARNER’S OUTCOME IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study investigated the influence of facilitators attitude on the achievement of learners’ outcome in literacy centers in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. Related literature of scholars views on the study were reviewed. The study adopted descriptive survey research design, the total population of the study employed were three thousand (3000) learners with sample population of one hundred and fifty respondents. The research instrument employed for this study was a self-structured questionnaire that sought information from the respondents from selected literacy centres. The reliability of the research instrument was ascertained using test-retest reliability technique. The reliability of the retrieved instrument was ascertained using Pearson Moment Coefficient Correlation. A reliability coefficient score of 0.76 was obtained. Data was collected from the respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count and simple percentages. The findings revealed that The positive attitude exhibited by facilitators towards work influence the achievement of learners’ outcome. The positive attitude of facilitators promotes the achievement of learners’ outcome. Facilitators qualification influences the ;achievement of learner’s outcome. Based on the findings revealed above, the following recommendations were made: To ensure learners' success, adult education planners and administrators must take appropriate measures to address facilitators' attitudes towards work. This includes ensuring timely payment of salaries, increasing facilitators' salaries, and creating a positive and conducive work environment to motivate and engage facilitators. The attitude of facilitators in promoting the achievement of learners’ outcome should be a paramount interest to both government and adult education planners to enhance quality outcome of learners. Furthermore, facilitators' educational qualifications have a significant impact on learners' outcomes, and adult education planners and administrators should prioritize providing seminars and symposiums to keep facilitators informed of the latest trends. Finally, the study highlights the importance of teaching experience in achieving learners' outcomes. Therefore, adult education learners should seek out facilitators with extensive teaching experience, as those who are welltrained tend to yield better results than those who are less experienced.

Junior Secondary School three (JSS 3) Students in Egor local Government Area of Edo State (755 male students and 775 female students). Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and fifty (150) junior Secondary School three (JSS 3) public secondary school students. The instruments used for the study was Factors Affecting Participants Performance in Literacy Education Questionnaire “FAPPLQ”. The instrument was validated by research experts including the researcher’s supervisor in Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The reliability of the instruments was obtained using Cronbach Alpha method. Data were collected and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation
