Abstract
This research was undertaken in order to investigate the bacteria associated with locally processed juices and screen for their sensitivity to antibiotics and chitosan. Tigernut milk, zobo and ginger lemon juice samples were purchased from three (3) different shopping malls in Benin City and transported to the laboratory for bacteriological analysis using pour plate isolation method. Susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics was carried out using disc diffusion method. Antimicrobial activity of chitosan against isolated organisms was carried out using agar well diffusion method. Total bacterial count on nutrient agar ranged from 13.5×10 3cfu/ml for zobo drink (ZN) to 114×10 3cfu/ml for tigernut milk (TNMFJ). On eosin methylene blue agar, total bacterial count ranged from 5×10 3cfu/ml for zobo drink (ZN) to 52×10 3cfu/ml for tigernut milk (TNMN). Organisms isolated include Lactobacillus fermentii, Staphylococcus spp and Salmonella spp. While Lactobacillus fermentii was the least prevalent (60%), Salmonella spp was the most prevalent (100%). The pH ranged from 3.56 in zobo drink (ZN) to 4.78 in tigernut milk (TNMFJ). Tigernut milk (TNMF) had the highest value of total dissolved solids (2.27mg/ml) while ginger lemon juice (GLN) had the least (0.10mg/ml). The titratable acidity of juice samples ranged from 0.02mg/L in zobo juice (ZN) and ginger lemon juice (GLN) to 0.48mg/L in tigernut milk (TNMFJ). The bacterial isolates showed various levels of sensitivity and resistance to a variety of ten (10) antibiotics. Antimicrobial effects of chitosan against Staphylococcus spp and Salmonella spp showed that Salmonella spp was more susceptible to chitosan at a concentration of 25mg/ml. The results indicate that locally processed juices were contaminated with bacterial isolates and should be subjected to good manufacturing practice (GMP). The inhibitory effect of chisotan show it as a potential preservative in food.

Abstract
The experiment was conducted at Faculty of Agriculture experimental farm, located at the back of the new faculty building of the University of Benin, Benin city, with the aim to determine the potentiality of mushroom in the removal of heavy metals from spent engine oil polluted soils. The experiment was a 5m x 3m experiment in completely randomised design with 3 replications. The spent engine oil was applied and was left for 2 weeks before mushrooms were added to the soil. The Soil samples were then analyzed using Standard laboratory analytical methods. Some of the physical and chemical parameters of the soil tested were pH, total nitrogen, total organic carbon, available phosphorus, total hydrocarbon content, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium. The result showed that most of the parameters tested including pH, total nitrogen, total organic carbon, available phosphorus, total hydrocarbon content, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium increased at all levels of spent engine oil treatments, while the exchangeable acidity decreased at all levels of spent engine oil treatments, thereby breaking down complex detrimental element from the SEO which is finally absorb by the plant used. The result from the experiment was not significant due to the limited time used in carrying out the experiment.

Abstract
This research is an investigation of the syntactic analysis of some personal names, using the theory of Role and Reference Grammar posited by Foley and Van Valin (1984) and Van Valin (1992). Our data consisted of personal names that are borne by both young and old Igbo male and female. Adopting the Framework, Role and Reference Grammar Theory, the paper discussed the syntactic analysis of Personal names in Igbo. The findings from the analysis of the data have shown that names are not just
9 oral construction of words to make reference to people and places; rather, names follow linguistic rules, i.e., the grammatical and syntactic features of a particular language. Crucially, the study ascertained that personal names among the Igbos are also grammatically insightful; and can provide a window to understanding and appreciating the grammatical properties of the language. We posit that personal names in Igbo reflect the people’s sociocultural experience and the supernatural universe, which provide deep insight into their cultural patterns and tradition.
