Strategic Procurement Practices and Procurement Performance: A Case Study of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and Edo Central Hospital, Benin City

Abstract
This study examined the impact of strategic procurement practices on procurement performance in public healthcare institutions in Benin City, Nigeria, focusing on the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and Edo Central Hospital. The research specifically investigated six key strategic procurement practices: Supplier Relationship
Management (SRM), Procurement Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Risk Management and Mitigation, Technology Utilisation, and Contract Management. Data was collected through surveys administered to procurement staff and analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. The findings revealed that SRM,
Strategic Sourcing, and Technology Utilisation have a significant positive effect on procurement performance. In contrast, Procurement Planning, Risk Management, and Contract Management were found to have either insignificant or negative relationships with procurement performance. Based on these findings, recommendations are made to
improve procurement performance, including strengthening supplier relationships, enhancing procurement planning processes, adopting advanced technologies, and refining contract management practices.

Industrial Conflict Management Strategies and Employee Performance in Healthcare Centres in Benin City

This study examined the effect of Industrial conflict management strategies on employee performance in healthcare centers in Benin City. In specific terms, the study determined the relationship among accommodating, collaborating, compromising, competing, as avoiding as a conflict management strategy affect the employee performance in the health care centres in Benin City. A survey research design was employed, and 362 employees from the University of Benin Teaching Hosptail (UBTH) participated in the study. A questionnaire was used to obtain data from the respondents, which was then analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that accommodating and collaborating conflict management strategies have a positive and significant relationship with employee performance, while avoidance has a significant negative relationship. Compromising and competing strategies did not exhibit a statistically significant relationship with employee performance. The study highlights the importance of fostering understanding, flexibility, and teamwork to enhance the overall effectiveness of healthcare professionals. It also underscores the detrimental effects of conflict avoidance in healthcare settings, emphasizing the need for interventions that encourage open communication and constructive problem-solving. To address these findings, the study recommends that healthcare centers in Benin City prioritize training programs that enhance accommodative and collaborative conflict management skills among their staff. Additionally, communication training programs should be implemented to encourage open and constructive dialogue, addressing the negative impact of conflict avoidance.

Social Media Platforms and Sales Performance of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Benin City

Many Small and Medium Scale Enterprises‟ (SMEs) operators make use of the social media platforms for sharing pictures of themselves in social events. Their lack of information on the influence of the social media platforms on their sales performance may be responsible for their poor adoption of social media platforms for business purpose. The study examined the relationship between social media platforms and sales performance of SMEs in Benin City. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of the study was made up of operators of SMEs in Benin City, Nigeria. The sample size was 357. Questionnaire was the main research instrument. The data were generated using Google online survey, while the data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics through the SPSS Version 20.0. The findings showed that social media adoption, viral marketing, and social media customer relationship management had significant relationship with sales performance. Social media search engine optimisation had a non-significant relationship with sales performance. All the social media platforms variables had positive relationship with sales performance of SMEs in Benin City.Social media adoption had the highest positive coefficient on the sales performance of SMEs in Benin City, while social search engine optimisation had the least positive coefficient on the sales performance of SMEs in Benin City. There was a moderate correlation between social media platforms and the sales performance of SMEs in Benin City. The Pearson correlation revealed that all the social media variables (social media adoption, viral marketing and social customer relationship management) had linear relationship with sales performance. It was concluded that SMEs require much efforts in social media platforms. It was recommended that the SMEs should use the social media to promote their merchandise; leverage on the benefits of viral marketing; use search engine optimisation technology to enable customers to search and see their products online; and complement physical customer relationship with the social media customer relationship management.

Stress Management Strategies and Students’ Academic Performance in the University of Benin, Benin City

This study examined the influence of stress management strategies on students’ academic performance in the University of Benin, Benin City. The specific objectives were to examine if meditation, psychological well-being, time management, balance academic workload and students’ social support influence students’ academic performance in the University of Benin, Benin City.
The study adopted the survey research design type. A total of forty-two thousand six hundred and forty-eight (42,648) students of the University of Benin constituted the population, while three hundred and ninety-six (396) formed the sample size of this study. Data was generated through structured questionnaire administration. The copies of questionnaire that were successfully retrieved were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24 was used to analyse the data.
The study found that meditation, psychological well-being, time management, balance academic workload, social support all had positive and significant relationship with students’ academic performance in the University of Benin. The study recommended that meditation and time management strategies are communicated to the students in order to cope with their stress levels in a responsible manner. It was also recommended that the academic workload should be balanced with other social activities. Finally, it was recommended that parents or guardians and teachers should give the needed social support, build and protect their children/students’ psychological well-being in order to improve academic performance of the students and avoid stress related problems in schools

Logistics Services and Organisational Performance of the Nigerian Block Industry, Delta State

This study investigated the influence of logistics services on the organisational performance of the Nigerian Block Industry in Delta State. Specifically, it examined the relationship between warehousing management, information flow management, material handling, inventory management, transport management, reverse logistics management, and the organisational performance of the Nigerian Block Industry in Delta State.
The research adopted the survey research design, management staff of the block industries in Delta State, Nigeria. A total of 193 questionnaires were distributed, with 189 usable responses retrieved. Stratified random sampling was employed to administer the questionnaires to the selected management staff. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, mean, and standard deviation, as well as multiple regression analysis using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) technique in SPSS Version 24.
The results gotten indicated a significant positive correlation between warehouse management, material handling management, inventory management, transport management, and organisational performance, while a negative correlation exists between information flow management, reverse logistics management, and organisational performance in the Nigerian Block Industry, Delta State.
The study recommends that the Nigerian Block Industry prioritise the provision of adequate warehousing facilities and management systems, ensure timely communication and information dissemination across all stakeholders in the logistics flow system, implement proper materials handling procedures and processes, establish effective inventory management systems, and institute reverse logistics practices to recycle and re-utilize unused parts and components.
