Abstract
This study titled "Awareness, Attitudes, and Practices of Breast Self-Examination among Female Students in the University of Benin Halls of Residence" aims to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and regular practice of BSE among young women in a Nigerian university setting, with the primary goal of identifying gaps that hinder early breast cancer detection and informing targeted health education interventions. The research is grounded in behavioral theories such as the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to explore the cognitive, emotional, and socio-cultural factors influencing BSE practices among this population. It employs a cross-sectional survey design utilizing structured questionnaires administered to female students residing in the university halls of residence, with data analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical methods to determine awareness levels, attitudes, and practice patterns. The findings reveal that while a significant proportion of the students have heard of BSE, actual practice remains low, with only a minority performing it regularly and correctly. Common barriers identified include lack of adequate knowledge, cultural taboos related to modesty, fear of discovering abnormalities, and insufficient privacy, all of which contribute to poor engagement in BSE. Based on these results, the study recommends implementing culturally sensitive health education programs within university settings to improve awareness and correct misconceptions about BSE, emphasizing the importance of regular practice for early detection of breast abnormalities. It also suggests the need for policy-level interventions to create private and supportive environments that facilitate proper BSE practices among young women to reduce the incidence and mortality associated with breast cancer.

Abstract
This study investigates the level of awareness and knowledge of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among university students at the University of Benin, Nigeria. The primary purpose of this study is to examine the level of awareness and understanding of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among undergraduate students at the University of Benin in Nigeria. It aims to identify the sources of students' information, assess their knowledge of transmission, symptoms, prevention, and consequences, and explore the factors that influence their perceptions and behaviors regarding sexual health. The study is driven by the need to address gaps in sexual health education on campuses and to inform strategies for effective intervention. The research employs a descriptive survey design, utilizing self administered questionnaires to collect data from a representative sample of undergraduate students across various faculties and levels of study at the university. The questionnaire captures demographic information, knowledge about STIs, sources of information, and risky behaviors. The data is analyzed statistically to evaluate the relationship between variables such as age, gender, and sources of information, providing a comprehensive understanding of students’ sexual health awareness. The findings highlight considerable gaps in STI knowledge among students, with many possessing misconceptions and limited understanding of transmission and prevention methods. The study emphasizes the importance of implementing comprehensive sexual health education programs tailored to students’ needs, utilizing trusted sources of information. Recommendations include integrating sexual health education into the university curriculum, increasing awareness campaigns through appropriate channels, and fostering an environment that encourages open discussions about sexual health to curb STI prevalence and promote responsible behaviors among students.

Abstract
This purpose of this study was to find out the influence of substance abuse on the performance of student athletes in the University of Benin. Four research questions were raised. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study consists of 150 respondents across 8 different sports from student-athletes in the University of Benin. A total of eighty (80) respondents from few Sports were selected through simple random sampling technique. The validity of the study was ascertained by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science all from the University of Benin. Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient was used to establish the reliability and a reliability index of 0.74 was obtained indicating that the instrument was reliable. The demographic data was analyzed using descriptive statistics involving frequency counts and percentages while mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that substance abuse messes up how well student-athletes can play and leads to less focus and lower confidence, which can affect how well athletes perform in sports. It was concluded that substance abuse will influence the performance of student athletes in the University of Benin. It was therefore recommended that comprehensive educational initiatives should be implemented to inform student-athletes about the health risks and performance-related consequences of substance abuse

AN EVALUATION ON ATTITUDES THAT PROMOTE FAILURE OF STUDENTS IN BIOLOGY

Year of Publication

Abstract
This study examined students’ attitudes that promote failure in Biology in senior secondary schools through research questions such as: What are the attitudes of students toward Biology in senior secondary schools? What attitudes do secondary school students
possess or emulate that encourages their failure in Biology? Are students' attitudes in Biology significantly different by sex?
The research design employed was the descriptive survey research design. The simple random sampling technique was used to select students studying Biology in senior secondary schools. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire, which was administered by the researcher. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, showing mean and standard deviation. On the basis of the findings made in the study, we conclude that factors such as a lack of intrinsic motivation, anxiety, negative self-perception, and poor study habits influence students’ attitudes toward Biology, leading to poor performance. The majority of the responses indicated that students perceive Biology as a difficult and abstract subject due
to complex terminologies, diagrams, and laboratory work, contributing to their failure. Additionally, there was a significant difference in attitudes between male and female students, with females showing a more positive disposition toward the subject. The implication of this study highlights the need for targeted interventions to improve
students' perceptions and attitudes toward Biology. Teachers should adopt engaging and interactive teaching methods to enhance students' interest and confidence in the subject. Furthermore, school authorities should implement counseling programs and extracurricular activities that encourage positive attitudes toward Biology. Conclusively, the results emphasize the importance of addressing students' psychological barriers and providing an enabling learning environment for better academic performance. The researcher recommends the implementation of motivational strategies, teacher training
programs, and curriculum modifications to foster students' interest and success in Biology

Abstract
This study examines biology teachers’ willingness to integrate Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) into their instructional practices, identifying key barriers and enablers to
adoption in secondary schools. A descriptive survey design was employed, with data collected
from thirty (30) biology teachers across schools, using a Likert-scale questionnaire. Findings revealed strong teacher willingness, with high enthusiasm for ICT tools and peer
advocacy. However, systemic challenges particularly unstable electricity, inadequate school
infrastructure, and insufficient training significantly hindered implementation. Teachers
proposed actionable solutions, including regular subject-specific training, dedicated technical
support teams, and biology-focused ICT tools. The study concludes that while biology teachers are predisposed to adopt ICT, transformative
integration requires targeted interventions addressing infrastructure deficits, professional
development, and curricular flexibility. These findings contribute to the Technology Acceptance
Model (TAM) by contextualizing its constructs within resource-constrained educational settings. Recommendations are provided for policymakers, school administrators, and teacher training
programs to bridge the gap between willingness and effective ICT adoption.
