PROFITABILITY OF PLANTAIN MARKETING IN OVIA NORTH-EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EDO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
This Study conducted a profitability analysis of plantain marketing in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was observed that there was no clarity on the measures that plantain marketers in Ovia-North East Local Government Area of Edo State put in place to reduce the effect of the marketing constraints in order to increase their marketing profitability. Hence, the study objectives were to identify the socio-economic characteristics of the respondent; determine the marketing channels; determine the profitability; identify the marketing constraints and identify the ameliorating measures for plantain marketing in the study area. The primary data used for the study were collected through interview with the aid of a well-structured questionnaire. Eight (8) markets were purposively selected in the study area. Marketers were proportionately sampled from each market giving a total sample size of ninety (90) respondents for the study. Descriptive statistics, cost and return analysis, ordinary least square regression analysis, and Likert scale were used to analyze data collected. Majority of the marketers interviewed were female (95.6%), married (66.7%), within the age group of 40-49 (30%) with secondary education (38.9%), 6 10 years and 20 years and above (28.9%) marketing experience and household size of 1-5 (58.9%). The study encountered mainly retailers (48.9%). Marketers had a mean monthly gross income of ₦172.17 per bunch. Their gross ratio, operating ratio, expense structure ratio, return per capital invested and benefit cost ratio were 0.17, 0.82, 0.004, 0.21 and 1.21 respectively. Marketing constraints were high purchase price, seasonality, high transfer cost and poor access to credit facilities. Ameliorating measures used were thrift society and joint vehicle hiring. Quantity sold and transfer cost were the significant determinants of revenue with a coefficient of 1334 and 671.68 respectively. It was concluded that plantain marketing was profitable and that technologies, financial and transport systems dedicated to agricultural products, most especially plantain, will greatly boost profitability.

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGI FROM POULTRY FEEDS SOLD IN BENIN CITY

Poultry products is one of the most consumed animal products worldwide. Poultry products such as meat and eggs is a rich source of protein, fats and minerals. Poultry feed refers to the feedstuff consumed by poultry birds. This study was aimed at isolating fungi from poultry feeds sold in stores in Benin City. Three (3) forms of poultry feeds (mash, starter and finisher) were sampled in five (5) stores in Benin City. The samples were collected aseptically using in sterile polyethylene bags with sterile spatula and labeled accordingly. Serial dilution was made using water as diluent. Enumeration and isolation of fungi was carried out using potato dextrose agar (PDA) and Aspergillus flavus and parasiticus agar (AFPA). The pour plate method was employed and were incubated at 28+2°C for 7 days. Temperature and relative humidity of poultry stores were recorded using ThermoPro model (TP49-W-2) thermometer and hygrometer. This research work surveys The Role of Instructional Technology in the Effective Teaching of English language in Senior Secondary schools in Oredo Local Government area of Edo state. This work shows that Instructional Technology plays a significant role in the teaching and learning of the English language, which has hitherto been a subject that many senior secondary schools’ students find challenging to pass, especially, in certificate exams such as WAEC and NECO. This work identifies six research questions to which the descriptive survey research design is employed and a well-tested and validated
questionnaire is used in gathering the answers from teachers and students of the English language in five randomly selected schools in
Oredo local government area of Edo state. Similarly, a review of related literature is carried out to provide a good basis for the conclusion of the work. Findings show that, with Instructional Technology, students, on one hand, actively perform better in the subject, find English language
lessons more interesting, engaging and stimulating, understand and learn the subject faster. On the other hand, teachers, are able to monitor
and manage the students' progress in the subject, motivate as well as stimulate the students to learn and gather real-time feedback from the
students which helps in evaluating the success of each lesson, hence, ascertaining that Instructional Technology is the best complementary tool for teachers in effectively teaching the English language and should be adopted by every school in teaching the English language
and other subjects. However, it is recommended that Instructional Technology be adopted
by every secondary school in Oredo local government area and other local government areas of edo state, in teaching the English language and other subjects, online learning should also be adopted by schools and the Edo state Government should do the best in ensuring
Instructional Technology is available in all government-owned secondary schools in the state.

The main purpose of this research work was to assess the perceived factors leading to depression among university students using the Faculty of Education of the University of Benin as a case study. This research work discussed the causes of depression among university students
and how it affects their academic life. It also looks at how students understand and define the concept of depression since research evidence points to the fact that
arriving at a consensual definition for depression can be difficult due to the varying experiences among individuals influencing its definition. Population 8,668
students, random select 296 students. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The research questions were tested by administering 100 copies of (20) item
questionnaire to undergraduates of the Faculty of Education, University of Benin. The data generated were analyzed using percentages and the findings discussed. The result of the study revealed that there are various factors that leads to depression among university students of the University of Benin. Following the findings, the researcher puts forth some recommendations which
when faithfully implemented will bring about general improvement with respect to the focus of this research.Counseling centers on university campuses need to be very proactive, easily approachable to all students, get help-lines where students can get in contact with a counselor without necessarily approaching the counseling unit to help students who feel very shy and intimidated. Students who fail their exams or do not achieve their academic goal should be encouraged to seek for guidance.

RELEVANCE OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to examine how middle and high school students in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State might benefit from maths classes in order to hone their entrepreneurial abilities. In the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, two hundred and fifty (250) pupils were chosen at random from one public school and four private institutions. A total of twenty-five (25) questionnaire items were developed to address the five (5) research topics that were posed to direct the study. A questionnaire titled "The relevance of Mathematics education in the development of entrepreneurial skills in senior secondary schools" was utilised as the research instrument for the study. The data collected was analysed using the following statistical methods: frequency count, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Out of the 250 copies issued, 247 questionnaires were returned. According to the research, students in senior secondary schools can benefit from developing their entrepreneurial skills through exposure to mathematics. Mathematical concepts such as basic operations (+, -, ÷, Ï), ratio and proportion calculations, interest (simple and compound), profit and loss, discount and commission, percentages and fractions, and the ability to organise business activities and time, estimate production costs, and solve everyday problems related to business transactions are all part of this curriculum. The results supported the need for regular and comprehensive math education across all grade levels; moreover, it was determined that students would benefit greatly from having access to experienced math educators who could guide them in developing the problem-solving and managerial abilities essential to entrepreneurship.

In the last two decades, the digital mobile communication services grew rapidly. In the 1990s, the digital services started as the second generation of mobile communications withthe Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) improved by the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE). The thirdgeneration used the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) with the HighSpeed Packet Access (HSPA) improvement. The broad objective of this study is to examine the effect of organizational learning on employee performance among selected employee in Edo state. The geographical scope of this study is Edo State of Nigeria. The employees in the University of Benin form the population of the study. This study employs the cross sectional survey research design. The population of this study is made up of all teaching and non-teaching in University of Benin, in Benin City, Edo state. Primary data are obtained from personal interviews and the use of questionnaire to concerned individual. The major instrument used for data collection during the research is Likert type questionnaire. Based on this, the study revealed that there is a relationship between shared vision and improved employee performance; there is a relationship between transfer of knowledge and employee performance; there is no relationship between team learning and employee performance and; finally, there is no relationship between system thinking and employee performance. The study recommended that training in the discipline of strategic thinking is recommended, along with the focus of building synergy by creating teams in the organization.

OPTIMIZATION PROCESS FOR DETERMINING ACCEPTABLE WELDING PARAMETERS USING SWARA-ARAS METHOD

Optimization of process parameter to improve on weld joint quality has been at the centre of global research. Some optimization methods have produced welds of low strength and quality whereas , some have made remarkable improvements on the quality of welded joints. In this study, the SWARA-ARAS method was adopted to access its effect on the quality of the obtained welded joints. Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) method was used to determine the geometric mean of weights for each of the output parameters that is the mechanical test and measurement results. Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS) was applied to optimize these parameters by utilizing the weights generated by using SWARA. From applying the SWARA-ARAS method, weldment was found to possess the best input and output parameters.

Nigeria as the world leader in cassava production, is yet to tap the full potential embedded in cassava. This study was conducted to determine the profitability analysis of processing cassava into fufu in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State. The specific objectives were to describe the socio-economic
characteristics of cassava “fufu” processors in the study area, determine the profitability of processing cassava intofufu, ascertain the determinants of profit among respondents in the study area, and determine the constraints to cassava
“fufu”processing.
Simple random sampling technique was used to select 60 respondents from the
study area. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and interview
schedule. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, gross margin analysis and regression analysis.
Findings show that fufu processing is female dominated. The study indicated that fufu processing is profitable in the study area with an average gross margin of ₦48 786.74 per processor. The major determinants of profits were age of the respondents, packaging cost, starting capital, cost of cassava bought, price per unit sold and quantity sold per week. Fufu processing is faced with a major 10 constraints, such as inadequate capital (3.87), price fluctuation (4.37), cassava variety (3.40), and weather problem (4.07). The study recommends that the
processorspooltheirresourcestogethersotheycanjointlyboosttheirbusiness.
