EFFECT OF CORRUPTION ON THE INCOME OF BUS DRIVERS IN BENIN CITY, EDO STATE

Abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of corruption on the income of bus drivers using Ring Road Benin city as case study. To achieve this primary data was used and it was analyzed using descriptive analysis, and chi square test. The data was derived from the responses of 50 respondents in the questionnaire distributed. The findings showed that corruption affect the income of bus driver, the quality of transportation service has been reduced by corruption and also, that the standard of living of bus drivers in Ring Road, Benin city has been affected by corruption. The study recommends that bus drivers should engage themselves in another job during their free hour, government should establish agencies who will help to monitor activities on Nigerian road to help reduce the level of corruption and government should also provide healthcare facilities, accommodation and school in other to fill the gap created and by corruption and reduce level of poverty caused by corruption

Abstract
This study examined the whistle blower protection in the reduction of corruption in the Edo State Ministry Works. The study objectives among others were to investigate the whistle blowing mechanism, examine the whistle blower protection in Nigeria and Edo state as well as a look into whistle blower protection effectiveness in reducing corruption in Edo state Ministry of Works. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, which is a non-experimental method. The purpose of descriptive research is to describe that which exists as accurately and clearly as possible. The study found out that whistleblower is one who engaged in exposing corruption in public and private sector institutions. The study found out that whistle blower does not enjoy any legal protection in Nigeria and Edo state. The study found out that whistle blowing protection has not been effective in reducing corruption in Edo state Ministry of Work. The study concluded that the absent of legal protection of whistle blower in Nigeria and Edo state is encouraging corruption. The study recommended that the Edo state government and Nigeria parliaments should pass a bill effectively protecting and regulating whistle blowing in Nigeria. There is still opportunity to fine-tune the provisions, especially those surrounding reporting mechanisms and protecting the whistleblower’s identity. The study also recommended that the government should reconsider its policy of excluding private contracts related to fraud. The term voluntary return of funds by the wrongdoer should be removed from compensation claims for whistleblowers.

Through Ideation, interpersonal and textual meta-funtion, we have been able to write on the importance and significance of Fela Kuti’s song making use of Micheal Halliday’s systemic functional linguistic because it makes use of language in analysing the text. This theory views language as a network of interconnected systems and meaningful alternatives , options or choicesfor creating meaning. Fela through his songs speak against corruption, nepotism and favouritism. He exposed a lot of wrong done in the society through his music and speaks to the consciousness of the poor masses. He sensitize them abou the danger of not waking up and accepting reality and fighting for their freedom as these government is not ready to save the masses rather, the government is stealing from them big time.

Various artist has attempted to tackle this issue through their work, using powerful imagery and symbolism to convey the devastating effect of corruption on the country’s development. Nevertheless, despite these efforts, the cycle of corruption and economic stagnation remains unbroken, and the desired change has not been achieved to its fullest.
