SYNCRETISM AMONG CHRISTIANS; BENIN CITY AS A CASE STUDY

Abstract
Syncretism is worldwide and it’s affect almost any two religion that meets. It is also perceived in the encounters of two worldviews. The belief is one of the challenges facing Religion in contemporary times. Christianity is faced with a stark reality that the Christian faith did not permeate the culture of our people well enough, thus there is such confusion and a mirage of different practices with professing Christianity. This can be seen in the lifestyles and beliefs of some Christians in Benin City particularly in times of difficulties in Life. Thus the aim of this research work is to examine the double allegiance of faith among some Christians in Benin City who interestingly are devotees of both Christianity and African traditional beliefs. This research work set to critically examine the factors that are responsible for persistent of religious syncretism among some Benin city Christians. This Research work will adopt a descriptive method for data analysis, personal interviews and library resources that will constitute the primary and secondary sources of data. This data will be collected from published and unpublished articles. This research work tends to offer dialogue as a way forward to achieve authentic spirituality in any religion one may opt for.

This study titled the "Prospects and Challenges of African Traditional Religion In The Contemporary Society" was aimed at examining the acknowledgement of African traditional religion in our contemporary time and society. This has become necessary due to the various and conflicting teachings on the subject matter. The method employed was historical and analytical. Data collection was from both secondary and primary sources which include interviews from some selected traditional rulers and leaders amongst others. The study revealed the disdainful societal misconceptions generally associated with the traditional religion in African which made it to have been forgotten with time, due to its inaccurate ideas and false beliefs. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that there shouldbe a need to investigate and address its concept, thereby finding a way for its possibility to be recognized not only during our contemporary era but also in the future which may pass through difficult challenges but with the aim of attaining and achieving a positive goal.

Lack of good leadership in Nigeria has given way for prevailing challenges ranging from corruption, insecurity, underdevelopment, unemployment, ethnicity and favouritism which have retarted the growth of the nation since her independence. This research work therefore focuses on ‘Umar bn Khattah an epitome of a good leadership stating that if his leadership style is emulated, it will bring about good governance in Nigeria. This research recommended that Nigeria politicians should learn and follow the leadership style of Umar bn Khattab. Also that Nigerians should be given a reorientation on leadership by introducing leadership courses in Nigerian schools at all levels.

THE EFFECT OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE SOCIETY

This study explores the prevalence, underlying factors of sexual harassment and its prevention in the University and workplaces in Nigeria. The main objective is to ascertain whether psychosocial factors are perceived as correlates of sexual harassment by university undergraduates. Sexual harassment like any negative job antecedents is one of the workplace vices which organizations attempt to checkmate in order to create conducive atmosphere for employees to thrive. In Nigeria, lack of legislative efforts and enforcement of extant laws have increased vulnerability. Considering the outcomes of sexual harassment of female workers and students, it is recommended that organizational climate in education sector be protected by legislative enablement to create a gender free environment for thriving of both males and females especially females who are the common victims of sexual harassment in this part of the world while prosecuting reported cases. The psychosocial factors influencing sexual harassment of students include financial insufficiency, moral deficit, lust and a weak system of redress. Result showed that occurrence of sexual harassment tended to be directed more towards females than males; and females were more negatively affected than males. The study identified awareness, propriety in dress and punishment for offences as necessary institutional responses to prevent sexual harassment. It is recommended that awareness-raising programs for students, lecturers and all university staff be incorporated into the programs of universities to encourage effective institutional responses towards addressing sexual harassment.

This study undertakes a comprehensive review of existing literature to examine the historical roots of Christianity in Nigeria and its evolving engagement with issues of justice, equality, and development. Employing qualitative research methods, including interviews and case studies, the study evaluates the role of Christian organizations, churches, and religious leaders in advancing social justice within the Nigerian context. It further explores the challenges and opportunities faced by the Christian community in addressing systemic injustices, religious conflicts, and complex political dynamics. The findings aim to enhance understanding of the multifaceted relationship between Christianity and social justice in Nigeria, while offering insights into strategies for promoting inclusive and equitable societal transformation.

This study critically examines the ethical and religious issues surrounding celibacy in Roman Catholic Church. In Roman Catholicism, celibacy is seen as one of the primary and major steps taken by Priest and religious persons. This work employed the historical and analytical research method. To ascertain reliable data, various methods of data collection were employed, these includes oral interview and personal observation, literature were also reviewed. Journal, articles and internet were consulted. This research work revealed the following: the doctrine of celibacy is not a biblical law. It also revealed types of celibates, this work revealed the negative and positive impacts of celibacy on Roman Catholic Priests, however this research work recommended that the law of celibacy should be maintained, but with proper scrutiny to minimize abuses.

This study focuses on Creation Myths and its Cultural Significance among the Gbagyi People of Abuja, Nigeria. The Gbagyi people, an indigenous ethnic group in Abuja, have a rich cultural heritage that is deeply rooted in their creation myths. These myths, which
have been passed down through generations provide a fascinating insight into the Gbagyi people's understanding of the world and shaping the community's values, traditions and worldview. Explaining the creation of the world, origin of humanity, the roles of gods and goddesses in shaping the universe. These myths served as integral parts of the Gbagyis culture, and often have been used to teach moral lessons, explain natural phenomena, and provide guidance on how to live in harmony with each other and the environment. The study employs both historical, phenomenological and personal interview. Part of the findings is that the Gbagyi creation myths emphasizes the importance of living in
harmony with the environment and taking care of their natural resources but truncated by urbanization and globalization through the neglects if traditional practices that promotes spirituality
