Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the role of civil society and social movements in promoting social change in Benin metropolis. To achieve the purpose intended for the study, four research questions were raised to guide the study. The population of this study consist of all SS 2 students in public senior secondary school in Benin Metropolis. There are 6890 students in Benin Metropolis. Egor Local government area. The sample for the study consists of 180 students drawn from three Local Government Area in Benin Metropolis (Egor, Ikpoba -Okha and Oredo). The simple random sampling techniques was used to select 3 schools each from the Local Government Areas making a total number of 9 schools. 20 students were purposively selected from each of the schools making a total of 180 students. A questionnaire titled "civil society and social movement on social change (CSSMSC)" was the instrument for data collection. The question is divided into two sections, section A talks about student demographic variable and section B was designed in to 4 points like scale formular of strongly Agree (SA), Agree(A), Disagree(D) strongly disagree (SD) and elicited comment on (The role of civil society and social movements in promoting social change in Benin Metropolis) In order to ascertain the reliability of the instrument a pilot testing was done using 20 students who are not part of the sampled population and data obtained was analyzed using the Cronbach Alpha correlation coefficient formular and a reliability coefficient of 0.69 was obtained which indicated that the instrument is reliable.

Abstract
The study on the influence of family background on the academic performance of physics students aimed at evaluating the effect of family background on the educational performance of students’, to find out if social- economic status of parents influence their students’ academic performance in physics, to find out whether educational attainment of parent affect their students’ academic performance in physics and to find out the influence of family size on educational upbringing of physics students. The study made use of primary data which are gotten from the distribution of the research questionnaires; the sample size for the study will be at least 35. The study made use of the chi square test for the analysis. The study therefore concluded that differences in academic performance of children are a function of differences in educational background of the parents. Due to inadequate resources, children are not provided with academic needs that could facilitate conducive learning because of poor socio-economic status of some parents. This has some effects on student’s performance. The study also made useful recommendation to assist relevant stakeholders in decision making. The study investigated the Factors influencing women’s participation in literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The questions bothered on extent at which social factors influence women participation in adult literacy programme, extent at which Economic factors influence women participa tion in adult literacy programme, extent at which Psychological factors influence women participation in adult literacy programme and the factors militating against effective women’s participation in adult literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. A descriptive research design was employed in carrying out the study. The population of the study consist of all registered adults female learners in adult literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The estimated population was 122 (Fieldwork, 2021). An instrument titled “Factors influencing women’s participation in literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State” was used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics like simple percentage and frequency count. The findings revealed that there are various social factors influence women participation in adult literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Also, it revealed there are various factors militating against effective women’s participation in adult literacy programme in Oredo Local Government Area of EdoState. Based on the study it was concluded that the greatest education factors motivating women’s participation in literacy programme are obtaining certificate for a better job, becoming literate, and improvement on communicative skills. In line with the findings, the following recommendations were made: Enlightenment campaign on the importance of women education should be encouraged. Also, Gender discrimination should be discharge so that women can contribute in the development of the community and the nation at large

IMPACT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This study assessed the impact of domestic violence on the academic performance of secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area, Edo state. A descriptive research design which involved the collection of data through the use of a questionnaire was adopted to solicit information. Three research questions were used to guide the study. The population of the study consists of senior secondary school 2 (SSS 2) students in Egor Local Government Area, Edo state. The sample of the study comprised of one hundred (100) students. Frequency count and percentages were used to analyze the data collected to answer the research questions and the reliability value was 0.81. The findings revealed that domestic violence can influence the academic performance of secondary school students. The studies indicated that domestic violence could be carried out as physical, emotional, verbal, psychological, sexual and economic abuse. The study further revealed that domestic violence is associated with risk factors which low self-esteem, antisocial personality traits, heavy alcohol and drug use, anger, depression, hostility and so on. The findings also revealed that domestic violence due to the risk factors involved affects students' class participation and school behavioural patterns which lowers their academic performance. It was recommended that awareness campaigns should be put in place as this will enable victims to always speak up. Also, there is a need for efforts to be made from the kindergarten level to inculcate more responsible behaviour on the child as this will help them handle anger and emotions rightly when they become adults.

Abstract
This study investigated the influence of family instability on the academic
performance of senior secondary school students in Benin metropolis. The researcher was
interested in finding out how family instability affect students academically in Benin
metropolis. To guide this study, four research questions were raised and examined. The design of the study was a survey research design. The population target
comprised of 200 students from Oredo, Egor, Ovia North East and Ikpoba-Okha Local
Government Areas in Benin Metropolis. The research instruments used in gathering data
was the questionnaire, which were administered to the students. An analysis of data was
done using simple percentage and frequency counts. The findings revealed most students who come from unstable families produce a
short term crises that affect their academic performances. Some challenges faced by
students who come from unstable families include physical stress, deteriorating of health, anxiety, social behavior, low self-esteem, change in sleeping patterns amongst students
from the four schools in the different local government areas in Benin metropolis. It is
therefore recommended that schools should ensure victims receive immediate support
such as counselling services and therapy sessions. Parents should also be involved in their
children academics and school should train teachers to detect when a child has a family
