Abstract
The failure of government programmes for the control of crime informed private citizens playing a variety of roles that is making a decisive difference in the prevention, detection and prosecution of crime around the world. Private Citizens represent an underutilized source of assistance in crime control and social decay management. While law abiding citizens are willing and potentially capable of assisting the police, they lack direction and experience. However, with proper supervision and guidance by the police, citizens can contribute to reduction of crime and betterment of society. This study therefore aimed to ascertain the effect of community policing on crime prevention in Nigeria. The followings were the objectives of the study: to identify the prevalence of community policing on crime reduction in Nigeria, to determine the factors that affect community policing in Nigeria and to inquire the efforts taken by the government to ensure better community policing in Nigeria.

THE ROLE OF COOPERATIVE SOCIETY IN ERADICATING POVERTY IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF AKOKO-EDO FARMERS’ COOPERATIVE

Abstract
This study examines the role of cooperative society in eradicating poverty in Nigeria: A case study of Akoko-Edo farmers’ cooperative. This enumerated three objectives whaich was used to draw out the research questions, the objectives were to; examines various kinds of activities performed by cooperatives for members in Local Government Area; identify various sources of finance available to the societies under review; assess the effectiveness of policies aimed at promoting co-operative societies; and identify some of the challenges which co-operative societies face in the rural areas. The study adopted the survey research design which was used to gather data from 125 respondents from Akoko-Edo farmers’ cooperative. The data was analysng using simple percentage the results revealed that co-operative societies have tremendous impact on the rural development and socio-economic lives of the community of Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Edo State. The finding also shows that inadequate resources have been a threat to the effectiveness of Co-operative societies Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Edo State. The result revealed the strategies of cooperative societies should be consciously articulated to realistically reflect proper skills and trainings of its members within specific needs of such communities in which they are based or situated. This study recommends that social welfare programmes can be designed by Federal, State and Local Governments through the provision of subsidies to poor persons especially on food, education, housing, transport, etc. thereby enhancing their descent living. People should be encouraged especially in poverty stricken areas to embark on self-help programmes through the activities of cooperative societies. This can be achieved through organisation of town hall meetings, workshops and seminars by cooperative societies to disseminate information on practical benefits of forming cooperative societies. As cooperative societies represent democratic views, efforts should be made by the groups to integrate opinions of their members through the adoption of bottom-up approach to policy design and implementation thereby mobilizing all important stakeholders to support its activities towards achieving its success and sustainability

STAFF TRAINING AND EMPLOYEES PRODUCTIVITY: A CASE STUDY OF EDO STATE CIVIL SERVICE

Abstract
This study examined the impact of staff training on employee’s productivity in Edo State Civil Service. The main objective of the study was to examine the relationship between government training policies and employee’s productivity in Edo State civil service. This research study utilized the primary and secondary sources of data collection. The primary source of data collection consists of information specifically gathered through personal observations, interviews, and responses to a well-structured questionnaire. While the secondary source was drawn from existing literatures, both published and unpublished, relevant to the topic, which includes textbooks, journals, newspapers, and international financial publications related to development. The data collected were presented in a tabular form with focus on the major research questions in other to enable the researcher determine the results. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentage analysis. Findings from the study revealed that there was significant relationship between staff training and employee’s productivity in Edo State civil service; there was significant relationship between government training policies and employee’s productivity in Edo State civil service; and there was significant relationship between career development training and employee’s productivity in Edo State civil service. The study recommended that the civil service should conduct regular assessments to identify specific training needs and skill gaps among its employees. This analysis should involve feedback from staff and managers in order to tailor training programs effectively; and that the civil service should develop a range of training programs that cater for different levels of expertise and areas of specialization. These should include orientation for new employees, technical skills enhancement, leadership development, and soft skills training
