GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE PSYCHOSOCIAL ADJUSTMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR SINGLE PARENTING IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Abstract
The study was carried out to determine “Gender differences in the psychosocial adjustment of secondary school for single parenting in Egor local government area, population for the study consist of two thousand seven hundred and sixty (2760) SSII
students from the 14 public senior secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. the sample size selected for this study is two hundred and seventy six (276) SSII students which is 10% of the total population, selected randomly using simple
random sampling technique. The instrument for the study was a question on gender differences in the psychosocial adjustment of secondary school for single parSenting in Egor Local Government Area . To ensure the reliability of the instrument, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient was used in and a co-efficient value of 0.89 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using PPMC statistics. Findings from the study revealed that;Female students from single-parent households tend to exhibit better academic performance compared to their male counterparts,male students from single-parent households experience higher levels of emotional distress or behavioral problems compared to their female counterparts,Female students are more likely to seek and receive social support from peers, teachers, and extended family members compared to male students. This gender difference in social support networks could contribute to variations in psychosocial adjustment, with females potentially demonstrating greater resilience,the following recommendations were made;There should be tailored support programmes targeting gender-specific needs: Recognize that male and female students may experience different psychosocial challenges due to single parenting. Implement support programmes that address these unique needs, whether it's mentorship for boys or empowerment workshops for girls,There should be regular gender-sensitive counseling sessions: Introduce regular counseling sessions within schools that are sensitive to gender differences. These sessions can provide a safe space for students to discuss their concerns, explore coping strategies, and build resilience in the face of psychosocial challenges.

The Study Investigate the Influence of Social Media on Mental Health Among Senior Secondary School Students in Oredo Local Government Area. Three research questions were raised to guide this study: What is the level of social media usage among
students in Oredo Local Government Area Edo state, Is there a relationship between social media usage and the mental health of students, What is the difference in relationship between social media usage and mental health of students among male and
female in Oredo Local Government Area Edo state. The population comprises Senior Secondary school students (SSS 1-3) within Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. This includes students from public and private schools. Based on available data and school records, the estimated total number of students in SSS 1-3 across selected public and private secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area is 800. This figure represents the target population from which the sample for this study will be drawn. This study employed a simple random sampling technique to ensure that every student in the population had an equal chance of being selected. This method was chosen to minimize bias and enhance the representativeness of
the sample across Senior Secondary School(SSS 1-3) in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. For this study, a total sample size of 200 students was selected from ten secondary schools within Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. The findings revealed that, there is a high level of social media usage among students, driven by the search for gratifications such as social interaction and identity formation, the level of mental health among the students is low, characterized by early signs of difficulty such as sleep irritation, lack of energy, and self-isolation there is a significant relationship between social media usage and mental health, indicating that
heavy and prolonged time spent on these platforms contributes to increased symptoms of
anxiety and depression. The following recommendations are made: Parents should ensure
that their children are digitally and emotionally prepared for the impact of social media. They should support their children’s well-being by monitoring platform density and encouraging non-screen activities like sports and in-person socializing. Schools should incorporate programs that focus on digital literacy and mental health awareness as part of the secondary education curriculum. This will enhance students' ability to handle "comparison pressure" and improve mental health outcomes. The government should implement policies that ensure all schools have access to mental health counseling services that address digital conditioning and cyberbullying. This will ensure that students are better prepared for the psychological challenges of the digital age

A descriptive survey of 230 University of Benin undergraduates explored social media's impact on mental health. Findings revealed a dual effect: while social media was a source of happiness for many, a majority also reported feeling depressed from its use. Students widely agreed that prolonged use negatively impacts sleep and concentration and that females are more vulnerable to cyberbullying. The study recommends university-led awareness programs and support systems to help students manage these negative effect

SPORTS COMPETITIVE ANXIETY AND ITS INFLUENCE ON STUDENT ATHLETES OF UNIVERSITY OF BENIN.

This study aims to examine sports competitive anxiety and it's influence on University of Benin Athletes for Head of Department, Dean's and Vice-Chancellor cups. In order to carry out the task four research questions were raised to guide this study. The descriptive survey design was adopted in this study. The population of this study comprised all the undergraduate student athletes in the University of Benin. A sample size of one hundred and thirty (130) undergraduate student athletes was randomly selected for this study. The research instrument used for the study was a self-structured questionnaire. The validity of the instrument was subjected to scrutiny and the test-retest reliability technique was used to ascertian it's reliability. The correlation coefficient computed was 0.63 indicating that the instrument was reliable. Descriptive statistics using frequency, percentage, and the mean in tables were used in the data analysis of the study, while Analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistics was used to test the hypothesis. Results revealed that there is a high extent of sports competitive anxiety among the student athletes and there is a significant difference in the level of sports competitive anxiety among male and female student athletes in University of Benin, Benin City. In conclusion, Competitive anxiety in sports is such a huge issue for many athletes, student athletes inclusive. It was recommended among others that Coaches should provide quality personal relationships that can increase student athletes' sense of belonging, self-respect and self￾viii acceptance. With this kind of personalized relationship, coaches can make informed decisions about which performance strategies and game plans may be the most appropriate in a particular game and what to focus on in training. This can help dispel all forms of anxiety among student athletes and University administrators should provide a positive climate for learning and sports participation devoid of stress and anxiety
