INFLUENCE OF ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMMES ONWOMEN’SEMPOWERMENT IN OVIA NORTH-EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENTAREAOFEDO STATE

Abstract
This study examined the influence of adult education programmes on women’s performance in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide this study five (5) research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design was used in conducting the study. The population of the study consist of 244 respondents from four communities in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo state. The study adopted multi-stage sampling technique and the instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. It was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s project supervisor and two other lecturers in the Department of Adult and Non-formal Education, University of Benin. The findings from the study revealed among others that the adult education programmes available to women in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State includes fashion designing, hair dressing, catering and interior designing and basic literacy. The findings further revealed that through adult education programmes women are socially empowered to engage in social activities, have better information about their health, and experience an upward movement in their social status. Based on the findings, the study recommends the active mobilization of women so that they can be part of adult education programmes provided for them, adequate funds should be provided by the government to run the programme and the programme planners should tailor the programmes to meet the everyday need of the female learners in order to promote the holistic development of women in our country

Abstract
This study examined the impact of social media on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised senior secondary school students in selected public secondary schools within the study area, from which a sample was drawn using an appropriate sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled Social Media and Academic Performance in Literature in English Questionnaire (SMAPLQ). The data collected were analyzed using
descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that social media has both positive and negative impacts on students’ academic performance. Positively, social media enhances
14 students’ access to educational information, boosts confidence, improves academic knowledge, promotes self-reliance, and helps reduce examination malpractice when used responsibly. However, the study also found negative effects such as
distraction from academic activities, poor time management, reduced concentration during study hours, and declining academic performance due to excessive and non-academic use of social media platforms. Based on the findings,
it was recommended that students should be guided on effective and responsible use of social media, parents and teachers should monitor students’ online activities, and schools should organize awareness programmes on the educational use of
social media to enhance students’ academic performance

NUTRITIONAL DISEASES AND NUTRIENT TOXICITIES AMONG WOMEN ATTENDING OLUKU PRIMARY HEALTH CARE (PHC) CENTRE, BENIN CITY

Abstract
This study was designed to assess the nutritional diseases and nutrient toxicities among women attending Oluku Primary Health Care (PHC) centre, Benin city. To guide this study, four research questions were raised. The survey research design was used in conducting the study. The instrument used for the study was a self-structured questionnaire. The population of the study was 70 women attending Oluku Primary Healthcare Center. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the supervisor and two other experts in the field of the research study. The reliability of the instrument was established using the split-half method of reliability which yielded a Coefficient of 0.724. The data obtained from the questionnaires were subjected to analysis using frequency counts and percentages.
The findings show that the respondents have low knowledge about nutritional diseases and toxicities, however they hold generally positive attitudes towards these issues. The findings also revealed their dietary habits, most participants frequently consume beverages, soft drinks, carrots, cucumbers, and vegetables. Increase in awareness about the importance of adopting healthy eating habits and structured meal plans is recommended, which are crucial for enhancing the immune system's ability to combat various toxicities. Additionally, consuming meals that prevent nutritional diseases and nutrient toxicities should be
emphasized. Healthcare providers are encouraged to promote. Promotion of meal plans, visiting a dietitian, intentionality about type of meals should be encouraged by healthcare providers to enable these women to reduce the risks posed by nutritional diseases and toxicities

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of stress on students’ academic performance of students in senior secondary in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study, four research questions were raised and one hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 level significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consists of thirteen thousand one hundred and seventy-seven (13,177) SS1 and SS2 students in fourteen (14) public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size consists of six hundred selected SS1 and SS2 students representing 5% of the population from three (3) public senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State representing 25% of School. The schools were randomly selected while the students were purposively selected from SS1 and SS2. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “effect of stress management and academic performance of secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.”. It was validated by the researchers’ supervisor and two experts. Its reliability was established at 0.77 using Cronbach Alpha method. The data collected for the study was analyzed using frequency tables, mean and standards deviation. The findings from the study revealed that academic workloads such as examination cause stress on students It was also recommended that guidance programs such as seminars and public lectures on stress awareness should be organized periodically for students so that they can be adequately equipped with the needed skills to handle issues related to academic stress. Students should be encouraged to make use of the counselling centers.
