Cultural Diversity

This study examined the influence of cultural diversity on consumer buying decisions in the fashion industry within Benin City, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey design, data were obtained from 400 respondents selected through stratified random sampling and analyzed using descriptive and regression techniques. Findings revealed that cultural factors—particularly values, beliefs, and norms—significantly shape consumers’ fashion preferences and purchase behaviours. Differences were observed among ethnic groups such as the Edo, Esan, and Afemai, while globalization and media exposure fostered hybrid fashion styles blending traditional and modern elements. The study concludes that cultural diversity strongly determines how consumers perceive, evaluate, and choose fashion products. It recommends that fashion marketers adopt culturally responsive strategies that integrate indigenous aesthetics and promote inclusivity to appeal to diverse consumer segments in Nigeria.

This study examined the impact of Social Studies education on the cultural awareness and diversity appreciation of students in junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. The research was guided by four specific objectives, which included determining how Social Studies education influences students' understanding of cultural diversity, assessing the extent to which it fosters appreciation for different languages and religions, examining how the Social Studies curriculum promotes empathy and respect towards diverse cultural backgrounds, and evaluating students' perceptions of its role in shaping their attitudes toward multiculturalism. Descriptive survey research design was employed, with a sample size of one hundred (100) junior secondary school students randomly selected from the twelve public schools in the area. The study instrument, a structured questionnaire titled "The Impact of Social Studies Education on Students' Cultural Awareness and Diversity Appreciation (ISSESCADA)," was used to collect data. The questionnaire underwent expert validation and was piloted on twenty JSS III students, yielding a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.83, indicating strong reliability. Data were analyzed using mean scores, frequency counts, and standard deviation, with a decision rule set at a mean threshold of 2.50. The findings of the study revealed that Social Studies education significantly contributes to students' cultural awareness, with the majority of the respondents agreeing that the subject helps them understand the importance of cultural diversity and promotes respect for other cultures. Furthermore, it was found that Social Studies education enhances students' appreciation for various languages and religions, while also fostering empathy and respect for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The study also demonstrated that Social Studies education plays a crucial role in shaping students' attitudes toward multiculturalism, as many respondents noted that the subject encourages them to accept people from different ethnic and cultural groups. However, despite these positive findings, some respondents expressed reservations regarding the extent to which the curriculum provides an in-depth exploration of specific cultural traditions. This suggests that while Social Studies effectively promotes general cultural awareness, there is room for improvement in the area of practical engagement with diverse cultural practices. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the Social Studies curriculum in junior secondary schools be enriched with more culturally immersive activities and real-life examples to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural traditions. Additionally, educators were encourage the active participation of students in discussions and projects centered on cultural diversity, as this will further strengthen their empathy, respect, and openness toward people from different cultural background
