Abstract
Podcasting has evolved from a niche digital medium into a mainstream content platform, revolutionizing how people consume and interact with media in the digital era. Originating in the 1980s as 'audioblogs', it has undergone significant transformation. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining descriptive qualitative and quantitative survey designs, to investigate podcast users, utilizing estimated population figures where necessary. The findings reveal that podcasting has fundamentally transformed media consumption patterns, shifting audiences from traditional scheduled broadcasting towards on-demand, personalized content. Crucially, podcasting empowers individuals and niche groups to create and distribute content, effectively bypassing traditional media gatekeepers. By catering to specific interests, podcasts foster dedicated communities around shared topics. Consequently, the research recommends that traditional media organizations proactively develop their own podcast offerings and embrace on-demand content strategies to remain competitive.

AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT’S CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF EVOLUTION IN BIOLOGY IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EGOR LGA

This study was designed to examine students’ conceptual understanding and misconceptions of evolutionary concepts in Biology, with particular emphasis on natural selection and adaptation. Two research questions and one null hypothesis were formulated for the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 5,493 senior secondary school students drawn from thirteen (13) public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. A sample of 120 students was selected using simple random sampling technique from four randomly selected schools. Data were collected using a Two-Tier Diagnostic Test (TTDT) adapted from West African Examinations Council (WAEC) questions on evolution. The instrument was subjected to face and content validity by experts, while the data obtained were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The null hypothesis was tested using independent samples t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that a large proportion of students demonstrated misconceptions and low levels of understanding of key evolutionary concepts. The results further showed that there was a significant difference between male and female students’ understanding of evolution, with female students having a higher mean score than their male counterparts. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that Biology teachers should adopt interactive and student-centered instructional strategies and ensure gender-sensitive teaching approaches to enhance students’ conceptual understanding of evolution.

THE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND SEQUENCE OF GEOLOGICAL EVENTS IN THE BASEMENT COMPLEX OF THE IGARRA AREA, SOUTH WESTERN NIGERIA: UNDERSTANDING THE EVOLUTION OF THE BASEMENT COMPLEX

This study presents an in-depth structural analysis of the Ugbobo area and its environs, situated within the Igarra Basement Complex in southwestern Nigeria. The primary objective of this research is to shed light on the geological events that have shaped this region, providing valuable insights into its deformational and geological history. To achieve this goal, Landsat imagery was utilized to systematically gather and examine fracture data through various analytical techniques. These techniques include rose plots, stereonets, and pole plots, which enabled the assessment of structural orientations and deformations in the study area. The results obtained from the rose plot analysis revealed a dominant NNE-SSW fracture trend, indicating deformation that can be attributed to the pre-Pan African orogeny. This finding suggests a polyphase deformational history, pointing to significant tectonic activity in the region. Furthermore, the analysis of pole plots showed clustering of poles in the western and eastern directions. The stereonet analysis revealed that the fracture lines are concentrated towards the eastern and western quadrants, indicating that many of these planes are dipping steeply in those directions. The comprehensive understanding of these structural patterns is crucial for reconstructing the deformational and geological history of the terrain. This study contributes significantly to the existing knowledge of the Igarra Basement Complex, providing new insights into the region's tectonic evolution. The findings of this research have important implications for future geological investigations and exploration activities in the area.
