PERCEPTION AND EFFECTIVENESS OF SEX EDUCATION AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Abstract
This study assessed perception and effectiveness of sex education among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consists of four thousand five hundred and sixty SSI to SSIII students in the Senior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area. The multistage sampling technique was employed to select 154 students from 5 schools in Egor Local Government Area. The research instrument used in the study was a four point likert scale and dichotomous questionnaire developed by the researcher, the instrument was validated by the researchers supervisor, the reliability of the instrument was determined by using the test re-test method and the reliability coefficient of 0.76 was obtained. The questionnaire was administered and retrieved by the researcher, out of the 154 administered questionnaire only 130 were valid and complete for the analysis, the data collected was collated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study revealed that ; there is a high perception of sex education among secondary school students. Students have high level of awareness of the benefits of sex education and there is a high level of effectiveness of sex education in secondary schools Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: Schools continue to integrate comprehensive sex education into their curricula, ensuring that it covers all necessary topics to further enhance students' understanding and awareness, regular training and workshops for teachers on delivering sex education effectively should be conducted, focusing on up-to-date information and teaching methodologies and parents should be encouraged to participate in sex education programs and discussions to reinforce the information provided at school and to create a supportive environment at home.

IMPACT OF SLEEP ON STUDENTS HEALTH RESIDING IN UNIVERSITY OF BENIN HOSTEL

The study investigates the Respondents’ view on impact of sleep on students’ health residing in the University of Benin hostel. Four (4) research questions were raised and answered, also literature of other researchers were reviewed. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, data was collected through the aid of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was structured according to the research questions and distributed to sample population of 100 respondents. The findings of the study revealed that that sleep has great impact on the health of students residing which can determine their level of academic performance in school based on their frequency of falling sick. Adequacy of sleep helps students to resistant to certain illness that is associated to inadequate sleep. Sleep patterns also have impact on the health of students residing in the University of Benin hostel due to the fact that students will good sleeping pattern are always mentally sound, while students who have poor seeping pattern are susceptible to fall ill regularly. Also, sleeping disorder have impact on the health of students residing in the University of Benin hostel as it can result to chronic diseases in that are detrimental to the life of the student which can make students academically backwards. It was however recommended that more awareness should be given to students in the importance of maintaining a good sleeping pattern and its impact on their health and academic performance; and that the government and the school management should ensure that that the school curriculum is not overwhelming for students as such that can disrupt their sleeping pattern.

PERCEIVED CONSEQUENCES OF GULLY EROSION IN EKOSODIN COMMUNITY

The aim of this project is to investigate the title; perceived consequences of gully erosion in Ekosodin community. To guide this study,five (5) research questions were raised. The descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The sample size was 397 respondents drawn from the total population of 45,000 individuals in Ekosodin community(National Population Commission). Self structured questionaire was used as the instrument for the study. The validity of the instrument was established by the supervisor and two other experts in the field of study. The reliability of the instrument was established using the test- retest method to estimate reliability .The data obtained from the questionaire were subjected to analysis using frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that gully erosion significantly impacts the community, leading to economic losses, health risks, and displacement. The study showed a strong correlation between gully erosion and reduced agricultural productivity, the spread of diseases, and displacement of residents. In conclusion, the study confirms that gully erosion has a significant impact on the lives of residents in Ekosodin, affecting both the environment and socio-ec nomic well-being. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach, including better land use practices, infrastructure development, and community-based solutions. Based on these findings, recommendations include improving land management practices, enhancing drainage systems and providing resettlement assistance to displaced residents.

This research investigated Waste Disposal Practice among Ekosodin residents. The purpose of this study was to determined the waste disposal practice of ekosodin resident. to Determined the age influence of waste disposal practice of ekosodin resident and to Determined the sex influence of waste disposal practice of ekosodin resident.To Determined the educational level influence of
waste disposal practice of ekosodin resident. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprise of 143 residents who lives in Newton street at Ekosdin. The sampling techniques used for the study was total of (100) students enumeration sampling Technique. A questionnaire was designed and titled Waste Disposal Practice among Ekosodin
residents. A total of 100 copies of questionnaire were administered and 100 copies were duly completed, returned and found useable for this study. The instrument was subjected to face validation by the supervisor. Analyses and discussions of data collected for this study were descriptively done using mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study shows that the Ekosodin residents hardly practice waste disposal, the residents attitude and knowledge
towards waste disposal are low. Majority of them still dump waste on the drainage, rivers and don't disposal toxic substance to the right place. Most of them keep their waste in a bag and
only few follow management method of waste disposal. Recommendations was made which
state that Hence, waste Management should create more awareness of the importance of proper waste disposal through campaign in ekosodin it should be Compulsory and effective
without further delay. Ekosodin community should involve and create dialogue around the proper waste disposal practice. It is also found necessary to change the mindset of the people. Everyone should be open to discussion about the side effects of not disposing waste rightly and help the younger people to understand how to dispose their waste and the importanec of proper
waste Management is. So, for that more education on waste disposal practice has to be taught to everyone. It is also important to form a policy on waste disposal practice in ekosodin residents, Passage of this act would help increase awareness of the potential risks of engaging in the wrong way of waste disposal. All youth would be better equipped to make informed decisions about waste disposal practice in ekosodin.
