Abstract
This study was to investigate the awareness and usage of electronic resources among library and information science students. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire, which was developed and administered to 100 students from the department of Educational Management in the University of Benin in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state. The data from their responses were analyzed with the use of simple percentage. The result revealed that LIS undergraduates utilize a wide range of electronic information resources which includes online databases, E-books and E-journals, Institutional repository, digital libraries, etc. The frequency of use of electronic information resources varies among students based on their academic needs, familiarity with these tools and it also varies depending on the resources. LIS students have a moderate to low level of usage of electronic information resources. Furthermore, these electronic resources often have access limitations, which can hinder students from obtaining necessary materials, occasional technical difficulties, such as slow internet connections or website downtimes can disrupt access to electronic resources, some LIS students may not have access to the necessary resources, while some students may not be aware of the resources available. It is therefore recommended that regular training sessions and workshops should be implemented to improve students’ proficiency in using various electronic resources, universities should invest in expanding access to a broader range of electronic resources, including subscribing to more academic databases, e-journal platforms, the use of electronic resources should be integrated more deeply into the curriculum by designing assignments and projects that requires the use of these tools. Channels for students to provide feedback on the electronic resources and services offered should be created.
