Abstract
The research work is carried out to investigate the influence of qualified teachers on student performance in English in secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. The study was conducted among one hundred students drawn from
four (4) secondary schools in Egor local government Area. Questionnaires were designed, validated and administered to gather data and simple percentage (%) statistical method was employed in the analysis of the data. The result of the study revealed that the qualification of teachers have influence on the academic performance of secondary school students and that motivation plays a major role in student mastery of the subject. Arising from the findings, recommendations and conclusions were
made such as Government should employ more Teachers in schools, teachers should make use of motivation because they are important in students performance.

KNOWLEDGE AND PERCEPTION OF HIV/AIDS RISK BEHAVIOUR AMONG UNIVERSITY OF BENIN STUDENTS (IMPLICATIONS FOR HEALTH EDUCATION)

In the absence of medical examinations, the change in behaviour and attitude may only be considered a possible way to the prevention of HIV/AIDS prevalence. The basic purpose of this study was to ascertain the knowledge and perception of HIV/AIDS risk behaviours among undergraduate students of the University of Benin, Benin city, Edo state. The study adopted the survey research design with a sample of one hundred undergraduate students that were randomly selected. Data was collected
with standardized instrument of questionnaire and was analyzed using percentage. Five research questions were raised to guide this study. Results of the study revealed that there is a high level of awareness on HIV/AIDS amongst students of the University of Benin. A proportion of the respondents still engage in risky acts like sharing of blades and clippers, risky sexual acts like Oral and anal sex. The study also reveal that the students were more informed about HIV/AIDS through billboards, posters and hand bills. It was recommended among others that more enlightenment campaigns should be organized on campus using the two-way
strategic approach (Inter-personal communication and the use of mass media). It was also suggested that sex education should be included in the curriculum of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Schools and school leadership have continued to be scrutinized by the legislature and public. With the passage of such laws as No Child Left Behind in 2001, the accountability standard of public schools has risen to all-time levels. The study explored the challenges facing teachers in using CRS to enhance values amongst students in schools in order to seek ways of alleviating them. The literature review seeks to discover the effects school leaders have on student achievement. This literature review looked at a variety of leadership styles, identify the direct/indirect influences of school leadership on learning, leadership and teacher efficacy traits that impact learning and consider school leadership traits that lead to student achievement. The findings also indicated that media/internet had a negative influence on the student’s acquisition of values. The study also revealed that the learners access some materials which are not good for their moral development for instance fictitious movies and pornographic materials through the media and particularly the internet. In conclusion, good leadership style enhanced effective and efficient teaching/learning of Religious Studies thereby improving the performance of students. Therefore, Delta State Ministry of ERducation should endeavour to give principals periodical allocation for teachers’ incentives to motivate the good ones among them. There is also need for administrative support in CRS teachers in terms of provision of instructional materials, and incentives to CRS teachers.

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of waste management on the health of the people of Ekosodin community Benin City Edo state. It focused on the present condition of waste management. Twenty-four (24) research question were formulated survey research design was used; The questionnaire was adopted as instrument for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was gotten using the persons product moment correlation and a coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. In the data collection and analysis it was discovered that most respondents are aware of waste management practices, they are also aware of the various health implications of improper waste management. Waste segregation practices should be encourage at the point where
source of waste are being generated, because segregation of waste will contribute to better management of the total waste mass.

THE INFLUENCE OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

This research was designed to investigate the influence of examination malpractice on student’s academic achievements insecondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The study consists of all the public secondary schools in Egor. Five secondary schools were used and hundred respondents wereselected from the schools which were used in this study, using
the sample random sampling techniques. The structured questionnaire containing twenty questions were used to elicit relevant information from respondents. The content validity of the reliability was established using the test￾retest method. The simple percentage was used in working out of the frequency counts of the responses on the students. XVI Findings were presented on tables and analyzed so as to test each of the earlier stated research questions. Based on the responses collected, the researcher found out that one major cause of examination malpractice in the schools was indiscipline among students; other important causes includethe non implementation of the examination decree and the lack of effective supervision during examination by all means. Lack of qualified teachers in some subject areas was also identified. It therefore recommended that examination like every other evil in the society cannot be fully wipe out. However, the act can be reduced to the bearest minimum through educational enlightenment programmes that will create a forum for instilling honesty, dedication and fair play by all and sundry, XVII especially among youths. Also, cumulative assessment records of every subject or course should be kept in line with the National Policy on Education. Students’ cumulative scores should account for about fifty percent (50%) of the final grading. This will make students less anxious about examination and subsequently reduce the rate of examination malpractice.

This study set out to analyze the factors militating against girl-child education in Mini Local Government Area of Niger State. The survey research method was adopted using questionnaire as instrument to elicit information from the respondents. Findings from the analysis of the data gathered showed that several factors act as hindrances to girl-child education in Mina local government area of Niger State. Such factors among others include, poverty, sexual violence, sexual abuse, religion and culture. Further findings revealed that girl child education is poor in Mina Local government area, also that the attitude to girl-child education in Mina local government area is not encouraging.

Data also showed that female children do not have access to education like their male counter parts in terms of education in Mina local government area and that girl-child from wealthy homes have more access to education than those from poor background.

Based on the above findings, the study concluded that girl-child education is not given recognition in Mina local government area of Niger State.

This study was carried out to ascertain the socio-economic factors affecting the educational growth of adolescents in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State..
The study consist of five chapters and each has vital information regarding to the topic under study. Chapter one consist of general introductions and research questions, three research questions were raised which include:
(1)What are the attributes of educational growth?
(2)What is the impact of socio-economic status on educational growth?
(3)What role has socio-economic factor such as educational level, occupational level and income to play in the educational growth of an adolescent?
The chapter two focused on literature review on the meaning of concepts used and counter-montions were critically evaluated, the relationship between socio-economic factors and educational growth was drawn.
The chapter three if this study centered on research methodology and design. The simple random sampling technique was used to select the sampling size. A total of 100 questionnaires were administered to five selected schools within Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, 20 questionnaire were distributed to each school.
In chapter four, the administered questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted. The findings revealed that there is a high rate of influence of socio-economic status on the educational growth of adolescents in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. Other findings were revealed in this chapter.
Chapter five, contains general discussion of findings, summary of research, conclusion reached and recommendation put forward to eliminate the constraint facing the educational growth of adolescents.

Attitudinal attributes of students is one of the numerous factors that facilitates or inhibits the teaching and learning of physics in secondary schools. This factor is mostly expressed in the behavior of the students to the learning of the subject. Attitudes and learning are twin concepts. Their relationship, if properly managed by the physics teacher, could serve as a veritable tool in engineering the students' behavior towards higher academic achievement in physics, thereby, boosting their interests in the subject .This project examines the attitudes of secondary school students to physics. In addition, the study also examines the influence of physics teachers' attitudes on the students' attitudes to physics. Most secondary school students find physics very difficult especially the calculations aspect of the subject. Majority of this students usually score low grade in physics. Physics is often seen by secondary
school students to be more difficult when compared to other science subjects including biology and chemistry. This development has instilled fear in the minds of the students. It is the prime duty of the physics teacher to clear this notion from the of the students. He needs to invest his diverse professional skills and competence, expertise, creativity and sacrificial efforts in order to effectively and efficiently present the subject in manner that would be most
interesting and captivating to the students.

The study investigated the influence of teaching method on the academic achievement of student studying basic science in junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. The population of the study was made up of two hundred (200) junior
secondary school students and twenty (20) teachers. Ninety (90) students and eight (8) teachers were randomly selected by simple random sampling from three secondary schools. The instrument used for the study was questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count. The result showed that most of the secondary schools surveyed don’t have
good laboratory facilities. Students preferred few class members as this situation helps them learn better during classroom lessons. And inappropriate application of teaching method negatively affects students’ academic performance. Therefore, the researcher recommended that Governments should be implored to give enough grants to equip laboratories with chemicals and apparatus, and also to provide useful materials and appropriate teaching. Also, more adequate classroom should be created with few students and reachers should be encouraged to attend workshops and seminars to improve on their existing quality and effectiveness.
