Abstract
This study investigated the correlation between social media and the mental health of students in the University of Benin. A total of 353 undergraduate students participated in the research. The investigation focused on the influence of social media on emotional well-being, social well-being, cognitive functioning, and resilience. A detailed literature review provided the foundation for exploring these areas. Data were collected through the administration of structured questionnaires and analysed using mean and standard deviation tables. The stratified random sampling technique was employed to ensure a representative selection of participants for the study. The findings revealed that social media significantly influences students' emotional well-being by shaping their self-perception, daily outlook, and emotional experiences based on their online interactions and the content they consume. It positively impacts social well-being by fostering connections and creating a sense of belonging through meaningful engagements. Social media usage also affects cognitive functioning, influencing learning habits, concentration, and critical thinking. However, excessive use disrupts essential cognitive processes necessary for academic success. Additionally, social media enhances resilience by offering support, shared experiences, and a platform to cope with challenges, though mindful engagement is required to avoid adverse effects. The research concludes that social media profoundly impacts various aspects of students' mental health, serving as both a tool for learning and a source of emotional and social support. To address these findings, schools are encouraged to implement workshops on managing social media use, promote community-focused online activities, and introduce programs that foster critical evaluation of online content

IMPACT OF HEALTH ON HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND ITS EFFECT ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA 1980-2020

Abstract
This study empirically examined the impact of health on human capital development and it’s effect on economic growth in Nigeria for the sample period of 1980-2020. The Augmented Dickey Fuller unit root test was employed to test for the order of integration of the series, further the autoregressive distributed tag model was employed to estimate the long run relationship between the variables. Results showed that contrary to a priori expectation, human capital index and life expectancy had negative relationship with economic growth. The study therefore recommends that proper and effectively managed health policies should be put in place so that human capital would be healthy enough to assimilate skills and know how and this would translate to more economic growth for Nigeria.

KNOWLEDGE, UTILIZATION AND FACTORS AFFECTING THE USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR KNOWLEDGE UPDATE AMONG NURSES IN A TERTIARY HEALTH INSTITUTION EDO STATE

Abstract
This study investigated the knowledge, utilization, and factors affecting the use of mobile technology for knowledge update among nurses in selected secondary health care facilities in Benin Metropolis, Edo State. The study aimed to determine the level of nurses’ knowledge of mobile technology, their extent of utilization, and the factors influencing its use for professional knowledge update. Three research questions were raised, and one hypothesis was tested at a 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population comprised 202 registered nurses from two selected secondary health care institutions in Benin City, from which a sample size of 148 respondents was drawn using the Taro Yamane formula and convenience sampling method. A well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection and validated by experts in nursing and research methodology, while a pilot study yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.78. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including frequency counts, percentages, means, and chi square tests. The findings revealed that most respondents possessed an average level of knowledge of mobile technology and demonstrated moderate utilization, primarily for professional and general knowledge updates. Major factors influencing use included lack of appropriate mobile devices, unreliable network connectivity, long login times, and heavy workload. The study concluded that mobile technology plays a significant role in improving nurses’ access to up-to-date knowledge but its utilization is hindered by infrastructural and institutional challenges. It was recommended that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria integrate mobile technology into continuing education programs and that healthcare institutions improve technological access and support for nurses
