Abstract
The fundamental purpose of local government is to bring government closer to the people
at the grass root level in a federal heterogeneous state. It impact embraces the
continuous provision of basic public amenities and promoting economic and social
development amongst it citizenry and in its environ. Thus, this research examines the
impact of local government administration on economic and social development
strategies in Iyanomo community of Ikpoba-Okha local government Area of Edo State.
The study adopted survey research design; questionnaires were used as instrument of
data collection and simple percentage was used to analyze the data. The study found
amongst others that, local government weak financial base hinders them from meeting
their developmental goals which explains the lack of stable electricity, amenities,
dilapidated roads, weak institutions, ill equipped health care centers and lack of other
basic amenities across Nigeria particular Iyanomo Community. Furthermore, policy
recommendations were adopted; they include that, local government statutory allocation
should be upwardly reviewed from 52.68%, 26.72% and 20.6% to 52.1%, 25.9% and
22.0% at the federal, state and local governments respectively. Local government should
be allowed to function without the control of federal and state government. Federal
allocation meant for local government should be sent directly to local government and
not through state -local government joint account. Finally the local government
leadership should be constantly engage in the strategic developmental project devoid of
corrupt practices using federal allocation and internally generated revenue within its
local government.

Abstract
The study examines the role the role and challenges of local government in rural development in Nigeria: a case study of Esan central LGA of Edo State. The specific objectives are to assess the role of the local government administration in rural development in Esan central Local Government Area; to investigate whether job creation and provision of infrastructures by the government led to prevention of rural-urban migration in Esan central Local Government Area; to find out the relationship between governments budgetary allocation and rural development in Esan central Local Government Area. This study employed both descriptive and inferential statistics in analyzing the data obtained.
The descriptive statistics used include frequency distribution, mean and standard deviation test t was used as an inferential statistic to test the research hypotheses. All hypotheses were tested at 5% level of significance. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 20.0) software was as platform used for all the analyses. The findings from the study revealed that revealed that the local government has implemented effective policies that promote rural development in Esan Central. It was also discovered that government job creation programs have encouraged youths to remain in rural communities. It was revealed that Job creation and provision of infrastructures by the government help to prevent migration in Esan central Local Government Area. It was concluded that Government’s budgetary allocation helps to address rural development in Esan central Local Government Area. It was recommended that the government should always maintain a balance in development both in urban and rural areas of the state to minimize migration. Local governments should be more people-centered in approach, such that necessary collaboration/partnership with communities in its domain can facilitate the process of rural development.

Abstract
This research studied the role of local government administration on rural agriculture and health development in Delta central senatorial district, Delta State, Nigeria. The specific objectives are to; ascertain the extent local government have ensured rural development; identify the programmes and projects put in place by local government for rural development; and to identify the constraints hindering local government towards rural agriculture and health development in the study area. A multi-staged sampling technique was adopted in the selection of respondents in the study. Data for the study were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained through the use of a structured questionnaire administered to eighty (80) selected respondents in the study area through interview schedule. Data obtained were measured and analyzed using descriptive statistics while the hypothesis testing was analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Result showed that over 63.7% of the sampled respondents consist of an aging population whose age ranges from fifty-one (51) and above while majority (73.3% and 93.7%) of the sampled respondents are female and married respectively. About 39% of the sampled respondents had no formal education, while 61.2% had at least primary education. The sampled respondents had an average household and family size of five (5) and seven (7) respectively- an indication that family members remain the primary source of labour. Furthermore, respondents indicated significant satisfaction with local government health development programmes- construction of healthcare facilities, supply of medicine and vaccines, address health workers shortage and improved health care accessibility and dissatisfaction with all agriculture development programmes put in place by local government administration in the study area. Result of Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) showed significant relationship between selected socio-economic 9 characteristics and respondents’ satisfaction with local government administration on rural agriculture and health development programmes at 5% and 1% level of probability
